Project will harness hydroelectric power from the Nile River in Egypt
Cairo, Egypt 18 March, 2013: CEMEX in Egypt is supplying cement for the construction of a new tidal barrage and hydroelectric power plant in the Nile River that is expected to generate 32 MW of energy and also improve the irrigation to a landmass of about 1.6 million acres large, the equivalent to eight times the area of New York City.
This project, funded by the Egyptian government, is expected to improve navigation in the Nile
and provide water and clean, renewable energy to the 5 neighboring cities of Assiut, Minya, Beni
Suif, Fayoum and Giza. It is also expected to generate 6,000 direct and indirect jobs during the entire span of its construction “CEMEX is very proud to be a part of this project that will improve the well-being of the people of Egypt for many generations,” says CEMEX President in Egypt Sergio Menendez. “We strive to contribute to the sustainable development of the communities in which we operate, through innovative and value-added building solutions. The massive undertaking, expected to reach completion in 2017, includes a sluiceway with eight
17 meter wide radial gates, a hydroelectric plant with four 8 MW turbine generators, a doublechamber ship, and an 11 meter tall embankment dam. As part of the project a section of the Nile
River will be deepened in order to mitigate any potential rise in water levels in the city of Assiut and neighboring areas. CEMEX is collaborating very closely with the project contractor in intensive technical tests to select the optimum cement mix composition required for the project.

A tidal barrage is a dam-like structure that captures energy from the tidal forces of masses of water such as bays or rivers. Instead of damming water on one side, a tidal barrage allows water to flow into a bay or river during high tide, and releases the water back during low tide.

سيمكس فى مصر تورد الأسمنت لمشروع قناطر أسيوط الجديدة
القاهرة، مصر، 18 مارس 2013: قامت كل من شركة سيمكس ريديمكس للخرسانة الجاهزة وشركة اسمنت اسيوط بعقد اتفاقية لتوريد الأسمنت والخرسانة الجاهزة لمشروع " قناطر أسيوط الجديدة" حيث يعد هذا المشروع من المشاريع الوطنية العملاقة في مصر.
من المتوقع أن يوفر هذا المشروع ما يقارب الـ ٣٠٠٠ فرصة عمل خلال مرحلة التنفيذ و٥٠٠ فرصة عمل دائمة بعد إتمام المشروع. من المتوقع ان يتم انجاز هذا المشروع في غضون خمس سنوات حيث ستقوم كل من الحكومة المصرية والحكومة الألمانية بضخ الاستثمارات اللازمة والبالغة ٢.٤ مليار جنيه مصري.
يهدف هذا المشروع إلى تحسين الملاحة في نهر النيل وتوفير المياه للأجيال القادمة بالإضافة إلى توليد كهرباء صديقة للبيئة بسعة إنتاجية قدرها ٣٢ ميجا وات لخدمة محافظات أسيوط والمنيا وبني سويف والفيوم والجيزة. كما ستساعد القناطرالجديدة على تحسين ري حوالي ١.٦ مليون فدان والذى يعادل مساحة ولايه نيويورك ثمانية مرات.
هذا وقد صرح السيد سيرخيو مننديز نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة اسمنت اسيوط ان الشركة فخورة بمشاركتها في هذا المشروع القومي العملاق والذي يهدف الى تحسين مستوى المعيشة للأجيال القادمة فى مصر. كما أكد مننديز ايضاً انه تسعى الشركة بكل جهد لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة للمجتمعات التي تعمل بها من خلال تقديم حلول مبتكرة فى مجال البناء ذات قيمة مضافة. واضاف ان بناء تلك القناطر العملاقة سوف يوفر لمصر مصدر طاقة نظيفة جديدة ومتجددة.
علاوة على ذلك فانه من المتوقع ان يتم الانتهاء من انشاء هذا المشروع العملاق في عام 2017 وسوف يحتوي على 8 بوابات تصل عرضها إلى 17 متر ومحطة كهرومائية بها أربع مولدات بطاقة انتاجية 8 ميجاوات لكل مولد بالإضافة إلى سد بارتفاع 11 متر. و من خلال هذا المشروع سيتم تجريف جزء من نهر النيل للحد من أية احتمالات لارتفاع منسوب المياه في محافظه اسيوط والمحافظات المجاورة. ومن الجدير بالذكر أنه تتعاون شركته مع مقاولي المشروع لاختيار افضل وامثل المنتجات الاسمنتية اللازمة للمشروع من خلال عمل الاختبارات الفنية المطلوبه .
