The whole range of projectors is easy to get up and running with keystone correction to quickly position the image. The EH-TW5600 and EH-TW5650 also come with a 1.6x zoom and vertical lens shift, for an ever faster and more refined set up. Accessing content is fuss free with a single (EB-S05, EB-X05, EB-S41, EB-X41) or double HDMI input (EH-TW610, EH-TW650, EH-TW5600, EH-TW5650, EB-U05) for connecting DVD players, games consoles and more. Have you ever thought about what is going on in your PC while you’re shopping online? Well, at the center of it all are web browsers, which are among the primary targets for cyberattackers. This is due to the high volume of sensitive data that flows through browsers. This is especially true during the holiday shopping period. (Get some quick tips here)

Just as in past decades when cash drawers and bank vaults were targeted for theft, today’s e-shops and online banks have fallen under the scope of cybercriminals. Their “digital-focus” is just an evolutionary step beyond robbing stagecoaches in the Wild West, and banks in the 20^th century.

Black Friday – and the holiday shopping season that follows – represents an opportunity for cybercriminals, where time invested yields maximum return on investment. To exploit browser vulnerabilities and capture the holiday plunder, criminals can deploy a number of tools including: code execution exploits in both the browser and browser plug-ins, man in the middle attacks, banking malware, fake Android banking apps and DNS Poisoning.

To maintain vital trust relationships with customers, some retailers have responded to these potential attacks by building up cyber-defenses. However, losses of data and revenue are likely to continue to plague online shopping, and in parallel, the security of back offices for brick-and-mortar shops. As a result, retailers and consumers have adopted technologies that include SSL certificates, two-factor authentication, data encryption and equally important but often overlooked – education for employees. Other retailers (though in smaller numbers) have even become early adopters of cryptocurrencies for retail transactions.

Are Cryptocurrencies the future?

While the number of transactions using cryptocurrencies may seem trivial, on the surface they do offer improvements in security over traditional online shopping, enabling a significant reduction in risk to sensitive information transferred during transactions with retailers who often collect considerable amounts of customer data.

However, there is a flip side. Reliably buying and using cryptocurrencies is still challenging for less technically astute users and doing so despite the risks, could expose them to further threats. Looking a little deeper, the majority of users probably never consider acquiring bitcoin until they face having to pay for ransomware encryption keys. And while cryptocurrencies like bitcoin could pave the way for considerably improved security, their adoption remains tightly bound to illicit activities.

There have long been cases of cryptocurrencies being mined secretly and thus illegally, via browsers to access the CPU capacity of users’ machines. This trend has not only grown among full-time cyber criminals: nowadays even popular (and legal) websites like Politifact.com and Showtime have been discovered cryptojacking users’ CPU capacity. Regardless of these difficulties, cryptocurrencies and associated technologies are unlikely to disappear from the commerce landscape.

Official Statement from the ‘Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies’

May God send salutations upon our master Muhammad, and upon his blessed household and noble companions.

Indeed the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies strongly condemns the criminal terrorist attack, which targeted the Rawdah Mosque in the City of Areesh, Egypt.

Once again terrorism reveals its true barbaric and futile nature, which no intellect can condone nor any religion justify.

This terrorist explosion violates both the impunity of venerable human beings and the sanctity of location, highlighting once again that terrorism has no religion.

During this critical moment within the history of the Ummah, the Forum would like to reaffirm its support of al-Azhar’s efforts under the leadership of Imam Ahmad al-Tayyab. Likewise it wishes to reiterate its call to all establishments and religious institutions for solidarity and coalition for the sake of ending senseless terrorist undertakings by way of holistic approaches that return to the Ummah the message of hope and optimism.

The Forum sends its deepest condolences to the martyrs of this tragic event, and to the Egyptian people as a whole, imploring God to shroud the martyrs of the Rawdah mosque with His mercy, and grant the injured a swift recovery.

إن منتدى تعزيز السلم في المجتمعات المسلمة يدين الهجوم الإرهابي الإجرامي الذي استهدف مسجد الروضة في العريش بأرض الكنانة المباركة، جمهورية مصر العربية.

مرة أخرى يكشف الإرهاب عن حقيقته الهمجية وطبيعته العبثية، التي لا يقرها عقل ولا يبررها دين.

إن هذا التفجير الإرهابي ينتهك عصمة الإنسان المكرّم وحرمة المكان المقدّس، ويبرهن مرة أخرى أن الإرهاب لا دين له.

 في هذه اللحظة الحرجة من تاريخ الأمة، يؤكّد المنتدى دعمه لجهود الأزهر الشريف برئاسة الإمام أحمد الطيّب، ويجدّد دعوته لكل المؤسسات والمرجعيات الدينية للتضامن والتحالف من أجل إجهاض مشروع الإرهاب الجنوني في إطار مقاربات متكاملة تعيد للأمة رسالة الأمل والبشرى.

AUC to Launch School of 2030: Education for Sustainable Development in Boulaq El Dakrour-EduCamp III

WHAT

The Center for Sustainable Development at the American University in Cairo (AUC) is organizing the inauguration of the project “School of 2030: Education for Sustainable Development in Boulaq El Dakrour – EduCamp III” ‏. EduCamp has started in 2010 by the efforts of national and international institutions to introduce the concept of Education for Sustainable Development in Egypt. With the budget of 1.4 million euros granted by the EU Tempus program, the RWTH Aachen University in Germany, in collaboration with the Center for Sustainable Development at AUC, has launched the Education for Sustainable Development Beyond the Campus (EduCamp) initiative, which seeks to introduce sustainable development concepts in Egyptian schools over a period of three years.  

The main objective of the project is to promote and implement educational sustainability development in Egypt nationwide and within all education levels. The consortium members of this project include Egyptian and European universities, NGOs and international organizations. The objective of EduCamp III is to transform the schools in Egyptian informal areas into schools that meet the objectives of the country’s sustainable development strategy “Egypt 2030.”

The project will develop a role model for Mohamed Farouk Wahdan Preparatory and Gamal Abdel Nasser Primary schools in Boulaq El Dakrour; that enables them to deliver education in line with the Egyptian vision 2030.

The project is managed by professor Hani Sweilam, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at AUC and the academic director of the Department of Engineering Hydrology at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany. The project is in collaboration with Al Mofid Foundation for Development and Human Resources and Rowad Al Ghad for Local Society Development.

The event will be hosted and moderated by Sweilam and will be attended by representatives from AUC, the Ministry of Education in addition to representatives from Al Mofid foundation for Development and Human Resources and Rowad Al Ghad for Local Society Development and Deutche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
