Hilton Hurghada Resort Riding High

Hurghada, Egypt, 23 April 2017 – A leading Hurghada hotel has scooped an award for best environmental performance, beating off competition from 234 hotels across Europe, Middle East & Africa. Hilton Hurghada Resort has been named the best performing Hilton hotel, alongside Hilton Cardiff, in its ‘Bikes are Back’ competition.

The competition was set up as part of Hilton’s commitment to preserving the environment, challenging hotels to go further in improving their environmental performance by reducing energy use, water and more. All Hilton Hurghada Resort’s 295 team members have received a variable speed rally bike to reward the team’s efforts.

The hotel won the award for its waste reduction efforts, which included its commitment to recycling, cardboard baling, water reuse and power generation from food waste. Hilton Hurghada Resort diverted more than 90 % of its waste from landfill last year, reduced its use of water by nearly 45%, and reduced its energy use by more than 16%.

To add to its recent success, Hilton Hurghada Resort also scooped the MAKE IT RIGHT - Highest SALT recognition 2017. There has also been some great efforts everywhere in the hotel to improve the day to day hotel performance such as converting kitchen equipment to natural gas equipment, new hot water boiler with energy saving parameters, replacing old washing machines with newer technologies and converting boiler burners to work with natural gas instead of Fuel, and many more.

منتجع هيلتون الغردقة يحصد جائزة أفضل أداء بيئي  

الغردقة في 23 أبريل 2017- بعد تنافسه مع 234 فندقا من الفنادق التابعة لشركة هيلتون في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا، حصد منتجع هيلتون الغردقة على جائزة أفضل أداء بيئي تقديراً لأدائه القوي والمميز في هذا المجال، وهي نفس الجائزة التي حصل عليها هيلتون كارديف ضمن مسابقة  Bikes are Back.

يأتي إطلاق هذه المسابقة في إطار التزام هيلتون بالحفاظ على البيئة، مما شجّع فنادق هيلتون على تحسين أدائها البيئي من خلال الحد من استخدام الموارد المختلفة من طاقة ومياه وغيرها. وفي إطار المسابقة، حصل أعضاء فريق منتجع هيلتون الغردقة البالغ عددهم 295 فردا على دراجات رالي متغيرة السرعة مكافأة لهم على جهودهم.

وقد حصل الفندق على هذه الجائزة الرفيعة تقديراً لجهوده في تقليل المخلفات، حيث تضمنت تلك الجهود التزام الفندق بإعادة التدوير،     وضغط بالات الكرتون، وإعادة استخدام المياه وتوليد الطاقة من النفايات الغذائية. قام منتجع هيلتون الغردقة العام الماضي بمعالجة أكثر من 90% من مخلفاته، وتخفيض استخدام المياه بنسبة 45% تقريبا، وخفض استهلاك الطاقة بأكثر من 16%.

واستكمالاً لنجاح الفندق، حصل منتجع هيلتون الغردقة على جائزة MAKE IT RIGHT - Highest SALT recognition 2017. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تم بذل جهود كبيرة في كافة أقسام الفندق لتحسين الأداء اليومي مثل تحويل معدات المطابخ إلى معدات تعمل بالغاز الطبيعي، واستخدام غلاية جديدة موفرة للطاقة، واستبدال الغسالات القديمة بغيرها من الغسالات التي تعمل بتقنيات أحدث، وتحويل شعلات الغلايات للعمل بالغاز الطبيعي بدلا من الوقود البترولي، بالإضافة للعديد من الممارسات والجهود الأخرى التي بذلها الفندق في هذا الصدد.

إريكسون مصر تحتفل مع الإعلام المحلي بوجودها في مصر لمدة 120عاما

احتفلت اريكسون مصر مع وسائل الإعلام المحلية بالذكرى السنوية بمرور 120 عاما في مصر يوم 24 أبريل في القاهرة تحت شعار "120 عاما في مصر من الابتكار إلى الأمام".

خلال هذا الحدث، حصلت وسائل الإعلام لمحة عامة عن تاريخ الشركة في مصر وفي جميع أنحاء العالم. كما حصلت وسائل الإعلام على ندوة تدريبية تقنية حول قطاع الاتصالات وأحدث اتجاهاتها.

وتمتلك اريكسون وجودا طويل الأمد في مصر منذ عام 1897 عندما كلفت الشركة بإنشاء أول نظام للتبادل الهاتفي في البلد ليربط القاهرة بالإسكندرية للمرة الأولى. كانت اريكسون حاضرة على مستوى العالم منذ أكثر من 140 عاما حيث تأسست في عام 1876 من قبل لارشماغنوس إريكسون، وعلي مر السنين نمت الشركة من متجر هندسي ميكانيكي في منشأة متواضعة مساحتها 13 مترا مربعا إلى شركة متعددة الجنسيات توظف اليوم حوالي 111،000 خبير يقدمون حلول وخدمات مبتكرة لعملاء في 180 دولة بجميع أنحاء العالم.

NAGUIB SAWIRIS, HAMZA ALKHOLI JOIN AUC’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES

April 24, 2017, Cairo – Two new members have joined the Board of Trustees of The American University in Cairo (AUC): Naguib Sawiris, chairman of Orascom TMT Investments, and Ambassador Hamza B. AlKholi, chairman and CEO of the Alkholi Group in Saudi Arabia. 

A prominent businessman and investor, Naguib Sawiris holds a master’s in technical administration and Diploma of Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Since he became part of the family business Orascom in 1979, Sawiris led its expansion to become one of Egypt’s most diversified and successful conglomerates, establishing its railway, information technology and telecommunications sectors. His company, Orascom Telecom Holding, became the world’s sixth largest mobile telecommunications provider in 2011 after merging with VimpelCom Ltd. He disposed of his interest in Vimpelcom, and kept some of his telecom operations under the name Orascom Telecom Media and Technology (OTMT), the company he then went on to expand into an Investment Holding, with interests in financial services, energy and agri-industries, among other sectors. He served as CEO of OTMT for some time, stepping down in December 2016.

“Naguib Sawiris is a man who needs no introduction,” said Atef Eltoukhy ’74, chair of AUC’s Board of Trustees. “His successful business ventures inside and outside of Egypt speak volumes of his extraordinary capabilities, talent and competence. We look forward to working with him on the board as AUC prepares for its next 100 years.” 

Sawiris has been recognized internationally, receiving honorary degrees, industry awards and civic honors, such as the Legion d’Honneur of France, Honor of Commander of the Order of the Stella della Solidarieta Italiana in Italy and Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam award in Pakistan. He currently serves as the CEO and deputy chairman of Nile City Investments, chairman of Gemini Development and board chairman of EuroNews. In addition, he acts as non-executive director of Endeavour Mining Corporation, Commercial International Bank of Egypt and Beltone Financial Holding. 

Serving on numerous international and local boards, committees and councils, Sawiris served as a member of the International Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange and the International Advisory Board to the National Bank of Kuwait. He is currently a member of the London Stock Exchange Group’s Africa Advisory Board, Board of Trustees of Nile University and the French University in Egypt, board of the Egyptian Counsel for Foreign Affairs, Consumer Rights Protection Association, Cancer Society of Egypt and the Arab Thought Foundation.

Hamza AlKholi studied pharmacy at King Saud University. His company, the AlKholi Group, currently oversees numerous subsidiaries in various industries, including aviation, hotels and resorts, real estate development, chemicals, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, fertilizers, banking, construction, contracting, management and operations maintenance, information services and technology, and telecommunications. 

AlKholi has named the Dr. Hamza AlKholi Information Center at AUC, a single-stop resource for prospective students and parents. He has also made various contributions in the region, particularly Saudi Arabia, including the establishment of the Dr. Hamza Alkholi Chair for Development of Medical Education at the Al Imam Ibn Saud Islamic University in Saudi Arabia and the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research. In recognition of AlKholi’s achievements, the government of Grenada appointed him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and the Republic of France gave him the accolade of Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur as well as the rank of Officier de la Legion d’Honneur.   

“Hamza AlKholi is a successful businessman and dedicated philanthropist who is active on many fronts,” said Eltoukhy. “His expertise, coupled with his international outreach, will surely serve the board well as it works to advance AUC’s mission of excellence and global reach.”

AlKholi has served as permanent delegate of Grenada to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. He is also a founding member of various organizations, including the Arab Business Council, U.S./ Middle East Project and the Arab Thought Foundation. He was also a member of the founding team of the World Economic Forum. Among the international organizations of which he is a member are the Clinton Global Initiative, International Crisis Group, Foreign Policy Association and the End Human Trafficking Now advisory board.

AUC to Host an Egyptian Folklore Night

You are invited to attend an Egyptian folklore night  where the AUC Folklore Group will  hold their annual folklore and music Spring performance on Thursday, April 27, 2017; 6:30 pm at  Bassily Hall, AUC New Cairo campus. The event will include a selection of the group’s signature dances along with some new dances. The dance performance will be accompanied by live music of the AUC Music Group. The group consists mostly of AUC current students and some alumni. The event is organized by Office of Student Engagement, Cultural Programs at The American University in Cairo.

The Folklore Group, founded  40 years ago, comprised of dancers, musicians and singers and has given many performances in Egypt on AUC campuses and off campus. The group has also participated in various international cultural events in different Arab countries like Jordan, UAE and Saudi Arabia. Since the 1980’s, the group has participated, almost every year, in an international folklore festival under the auspices of UNESCO, in a different country.  

In 2014, the AUC Folklore Group won first prize at the Egyptian National Universities Competition. This competition was among all Egyptian public and private universities in various fields of cultural and arts extracurricular programs, under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth.
