Seatrade, Saudi Aramco announce second annual Global Workboats Technology Forum

International experts to deliver sector update and share key insights during Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2014

The 2014 edition of the biennial Seatrade Middle East Maritime will be the host event for the second annual one-day Global Workboats Technology Forum at which a line-up of renowned international experts will present a series of technical papers on the latest industry-leading topics.

Launched in strategic partnership with Saudi Aramco, the world’s leading fully integrated energy and petrochemicals enterprise, at the 2013 Middle East Workboats & Offshore Marine event, the 2014 forum will be held on Wednesday 29^th October 2014 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

“A key knowledge and educational component of the three-day Seatrade Middle East Maritime exhibition and conference, this year’s forum speakers will address the trending issues impacting sector performance in an increasingly competitive and globalised marketplace,” said Chris Hayman, Chairman, Seatrade, organiser of Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2014.

“This one-of-its-kind platform for direct interaction between global industry decision-makers and international thought leaders enjoyed an extremely successful first outing in 2013 and we are looking forward to mirroring the experience this year, especially in light of industry developments over the last 12 months,” he added.

The Forum format will be technical paper presentations encouraging audience participation and including time for Q&A. Papers will be presented in front of global industry decision-makers and specialists — including Saudi Aramco’s Industrial Services Executive Director — alongside many other Marine Operational Companies.

The 2014 call for papers attracted submissions from across the industry spectrum and speakers this year include Paul Ostergaard, CEO & Founder, ShipServ, who will present on the Latest Trends in Operating Costs for Workboat Operators – Where Does the Money Go?; Prabjot Singh Chopra, Senior Naval Architect, SeaTech Solutions International on Workboat Designs for the Future; and Hans-Pieter Baaij, Commercial Director, Lankhorst Ropes, with his paper entitled The Less You Buy the Happier We Are: Beyond Mooring Lone Recycling to Sustainability.

Other speakers include Mike Roa, Senior Managing Principal engineer, ABS; Frode Klepsvik, Managing Director, Marine Technologies; Nikeel Idnani, Business Development Leader, DNV-GL and Nitesh Ranvah, CEO, 21 Knots.

تستضيف دورة العام الحالي من معرض ومؤتمر سيتريد الشرق الاوسط البحري 2014 المنتدى الدولي الثاني لتكنولوجيا سفن العمليات الذي يستمر يوما واحدا حيث يقوم مجموعة من ابرز خبراء العالم في هذا المجال باستعراض سلسلة من الابحاث الفنية حول احدث اتجاهات هذا القطاع.

وتم اطلاق هذا المنتدى بتعاون استراتيجي مع شركة ارامكو السعودية التي تعتبر المؤسسة العالمية الرائدة في الطاقة والصناعات البتروكيماوية خلال دورة عام 2013 من معرض ومؤتمر الشرق الاوسط لسفن العمليات والأعمال البحرية، ويقام منتدى هذا العام يوم الاربعاء 29 اكتوبر في مركز دبي العالمي للمعارض والمؤتمرات.

وقال كريس هايمان رئيس مجلس ادارة سيتريد الشركة التي تنظم سيتريد الشرق الاوسط البحري 2014  ان المتحدثين في منتدى هذا العام، الذي يعتبر مكونا معرفيا وتعليميا اساسيا من معرض ومؤتمر سيتريد الشرق الاوسط الذي يستمر لثلاثة أيام سيناقشون القضايا الحالية للقطاع التي تؤثر على ادائه في سوق تزداد تنافسية على المستويين الاقليمي والعالمي.

GCC food imports to hit $53.1 billion putting security issues top of SIAL agenda

Regional food import bill will rise to over $53 billion by 2020 as soaring population statistics and up to 90% reliance on imported products foster long term supply concerns; GCC government focus on strategic diversification and domestic initiatives for future sector sustainability

Food security and the associated costs of importing food into the region tops the agenda at SIAL Middle East, the region’s fastest-growing professional trade exhibition for the food, drink and hospitality industries, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, which returns to Abu Dhabi on 24-26 November 2014 at the National Exhibition Centre.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, GCC food import demand is forecast to hit US$53.1 billion by 2020, up from US$25.8 billion just a decade ago, and with 80-90% reliance on imported foodstuffs, the impact of price increases caused by poor harvests, political instability, supply chain interruptions and a non-agricultural landscape could have devastating long term food security consequences.

“Food security throughout the region will no doubt once again dominate show floor discussion, as regional demand for food imports rises due to an expanding population expected to reach 50 million by 2020, a booming tourism industry, increasing per capita income and limited water resources,” said Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication and Community Service Division at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) and Chairman of the SIAL Middle East organizing committee.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2014 Global Food Security Index, which ranks countries based on food affordability, availability, nutritional quality and safety, placed Kuwait in 28^th place, leading the region with an overall 72.2% rating, followed by the UAE in 30^th spot with a score of 70.9% and Saudi Arabia 32^nd at 69.6%.

“While the region’s own food production capacity is naturally stymied by a lack of arable land, there is much being done to address long term food security from significant government investment into farming projects from Eastern Europe to Africa, as well as domestic initiatives, which while incurring substantial costs, are nonetheless adding much-needed supply at source,” added Al Rayssi.

The Abu Dhabi farming industry is reportedly set to produce up to 38,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables in the winter months while Qatar is similarly looking into sustainable agricultural development. However, the high cost of large-scale domestic agriculture initiatives has proved extremely challenging with Saudi Arabia, for example, calling time on its experimental wheat production programme with plans to revert to an import model by 2016.

Commenting on SIAL’s expanding role in providing a valid platform for the region’s food import industry, Joanne Cook, SIAL Managing Director, SIAL Middle East, said:

“SIAL Middle East which is held in strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), has grown rapidly since its inauguration in 2010 and last year attracted 17,000 trade visitors, a 37% increase over 2012. The three-day event also hosted 700 exhibitors from 52 countries, which will be eclipsed this year with over 1,000 exhibitors and 25 national pavilions already confirmed,” she said.

According to Alpen Capital’s 2013 GCC Food Industry Report, the GCC region will consume 49.1 million tonnes of food annually by the end of 2017 with the UAE currently the largest per capita consumer at 1,486 kilogrammes (kgs) per year. This tops neighbouring Oman at 1,095 kgs per capita per annum, with Saudi Arabia at 872 kgs, Qatar with 852kgs, Kuwait at 634kgs and Bahrain 453 kgs.

“The report indicates that over the three years, food consumption in the region is expected to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 3.1% and so it is imperative that we continue to diversify our import sources and proactively seek out partnerships with other countries and producers who are willing to become part of the food security solution,” added Cook.

The show will also include a new feature dedicated to the manufacturing process. The co-located Middle East Pack exhibition will showcase packaging, processing, ingredients, printing and handling industries companies for the food and beverage sector.

The three-day event also features the SIAL hosted buyer programme, La Cuisine by SIAL an international competition for chefs and the SIAL Innovation Area, showcasing the world’s most innovative food and beverage products, including winners from the global competitions from events in China, Brazil, Canada, Paris and The Philippines.

53.1 مليار دولار حجم الواردات الغذائية لدول مجلس التعاون الخليجي عام 2020

استراتيجية الأمن الغذائي الخليجي تتصدر جدول اعمال "سيال الشرق الأوسط 2104" في أبوظبي

تحت رعاية سمو الشيخ منصور بن زايد آل نهيان نائب رئيس الوزراء ، وزير شؤون الرئاسة رئيس مجلس إدارة جهاز أبوظبي للرقابة الغذائية تنطلق في الفترة من 24 – 26 نوفمبر المقبل فعاليات معرض سيال الشرق الأوسط للغذاء في دورته السنوية الخامسة وذلك بمركز ابوظبي للمعارض " أدنيك " .

ويسلط المعرض الضوء على  الأمن الغذائي وارتفاع الطلب الإقليمي على الواردات الغذائية نتيجة التزايد السكاني المتوقع أن يصل الى 50 مليون نسمة بحلول 2020 وازدهار القطاع السياحي و ارتفاع حصة الفرد من الناتج المحلي .

ووفقا لتقرير "وحدة المعلومات الإقتصادية " فمن المتوقع أن يصل حجم الواردات الغذائية الخليجية إلى 53.1 مليار دولار بحلول 2020 مقابل 25.8 مليار دولار قبل عقد واحد ، ومع  الاعتماد بنسبة ما بين 80-90% على الأغذية المستوردة فإن تأثير ارتفاع الأسعار الناجم عن مواسم زراعية سيئة و الإضطرابات السياسية ومشكلات سلاسل التوريد وغيرها قد يكون لها نتائج وخيمة على الأمن الغذائي.

وقال محمد جلال الريسي مدير إدارة الاتصال وخدمة المجتمع في جهاز أبوظبي للرقابة الغذائية ورئيس اللجنة المنظمة لمعرض سيال الشرق الأوسط:" سيكون المعرض مرة أخرى منصة  مهمة للمناقشة وتبادل المعلومات بين كبار اللاعبين الإقليميين والشركاء الدوليين حول الفرص المتاحة للطرفين والأولويات الاستراتيجية للحكومات الإقليمية، حيث من المتوقع أن يرتفع الطلب الإقليمي على الواردات الغذائية  ، بسبب ازدهار الصناعة السياحة ، وزيادة نصيب الفرد من الدخل والموارد المائية المحدودة ".

ووفقا لمؤشر الأمن الغذائي العالمي لعام 2014 الذي وضعته وحدة المعلومات الإقتصادية والذي يصنف الدول بناء على رخص الغذاء وتوفره وجودته وسلامته فقد حلت الكويت في المرتبة 28 لتكون الأولى في المنطقة بنسبة ترتيب اجمالية بلغت 72.2% تلتها الامارات بالمرتبة 30 بنسبة 70.9% والسعودية بالمرتبة 32 بنسبة 69.6%.

وقال الريسي :"في الفترة التي تعاني فيه قدرات المنطقة على انتاج غذائها بوضع حرج بسبب محدودية الأراضي القابلة للزراعة فقد تم إنجاز الكثير لمجابهة تحديات الأمن الغذائي على المدى البعيد كالاستثمار في مشاريع زراعية في أوروبا الشرقية حتى افريقيا اضافة الى إطلاق مبادرات محلية التي تسهم في استدانة التكاليف وتضمن استقرار المخزونات الضرورية".

ومن المتوقع ان يصل إنتاج أبوظبي الى 38,000 طن من الخضار والفواكه في أشهر الشتاء  فيما تدرس قطر تنفيذ مشاريع زراعية مستدامة إللا أن التكلفة العالية للمبادرات الزراعية المحلية الكبيرة القت بظلالها على خطط المملكة العربية السعودية ما جعلها تعتزم تحديد برنامجها التجريبي لإنتاج القمح والعودة الى الاستيراد بحلول العام 2016.

و تعليقاَ على دور " سيال الشرق الأوسط " بتوفير منصة لنقاش صناعة الواردات الغذائية في المنطقة، قالت جوان كوك، المدير التنفيذي لسيال الشرق الأوسط:" يقام سيال الشرق الأوسط بشراكة استراتيجية مع جهاز أبوظبي للرقابة الغذائية، و لقد شهد المعرض نمواَ سريعاَ منذ نشأته حيث استضاف العام الماضي 17 ألف زائر بزيادة 37 في المائة مقارنة بعام 2012، حيث أقيم الحدث على مدار ثلاثة أيام واستضاف 700 مشارك من 52 دولة، و يستضيف الحدث هذا العام أكثر من 1000 مشارك و 25 جناحاَ وطنياَ".

ووفقاَ لتقرير القطاع الغذائي الخليجي 2013 من إعداد "البين كابيتال"، فإن منطقة الخليج تتجه لاستهلاك 49.1 مليون طن من الغذاء سنويا بنهاية 2017 حيث تعتبر الامارات حاليا اكبر مستهلك بمعدل 1486 كغ للفرد سنويا مقابل 1095 كغ للفرد في عمان و872 كغ في السعودية و852 كغ في قطر و634 كغ في الكويت و453 كغ للفرد في البحرين.

و أضافت كوك :"يشير التقرير انه خلال السنوات الثلاث القادمة من المتوقع نمو الاستهلاك الغذائي في المنطقة بمعدل نمو سنوي مركب يبلغ 3.1% وبالتالي يتحتم علينا مواصلة تنويع مصادر وارداتنا والسعي بفعالية الى عقد شراكات مع الدول الأخرى والمنتجين  الآخرين الذين يرغبون في أن يصبحوا جزاء من الحل الخاص بالأمن الغذائي".

يقدم المعرض فعالية جديدة مخصصة لعمليات التصنيع الغذائي ويعرض منتجات وخدمات قطاعات التغليف والتصنيع والمواد الأولية والطباعة والمناولة للشركات العاملة في قطاعي المأكولات والمشروبات.

كما يضم ايضاَ برنامج استضافة التجار وفعالية "لاكوزين" من تنظيم مسابقة سيال للشيف العالمي ومنطقة سيال للإبداع، وعرض المنتجات الغذائية والمشروبات الأكثر ابتكارا في العالم، بما في ذلك الفائزين من المسابقات العالمية من الأحداث في الصين والبرازيل وكندا وباريس والفلبين.
