Savoye introduces advanced warehouse & transport management solution to the UAE

  • ODATiO is company’s latest web solution that combines TMS and WMS functionalities
  • UAE rollout follows solution’s global launch
  • Savoye sets sights on software’s deployment in rest of GCC region

June 6, 2021 - Savoye, a global provider of complete supply chain solutions, has formally introduced to the UAE market its state-of-the-art warehouse and transport management system, ODATiO, as it looks to subsequently roll out the software application to other parts of the Gulf region.

The unveiling positions Savoye as a leading company providing the local market with the only intelligent supply chain solution that has combined functionalities of the warehouse management system (WMS) and transport management system (TMS).

The UAE deployment followed ODATiO’s official global launch early this year. Offering complete and real-time visibility of all warehouse and transport activities, ODATiO empowers logistics organizations in a way that will increase their agility amid an ever-evolving market, especially in the field of e-commerce.

Frederic Bouchet, Software Sales Development Director-EMEA, Savoye, said: “ODATiO is the result of our significant research and development (R&D) work, technical and functional studies, framework development, and collection and analysis of new processes. The comprehensive efforts that went into the designing of this software program demonstrated Savoye’s commitment to extend an application able to cater to all modern supply chain and logistics requirements.”

Bouchet added: “Through the highly scalable solution, we guarantee more flexibility in terms of configuration, more autonomy with the processes, and increased data interoperability, among others. Its users in the UAE, and soon in other parts of the region, can implement it on several sites in an optimized, rapid, and replicable way to meet the latest market criteria.”

The 100 per cent web-based solution enables complete visibility of the warehouse and transport activities through its dedicated, multi-site, multi-language, interactive, and fully customizable dashboard. It is not only highly responsive, but it is also easily accessible using any device, including tablets and smartphones, and operator terminals.

Furthermore, ODATiO can be completely reconfigured by the user according to the needs of the warehouse. It can easily comply with new strategic guidelines and operational structuring such as changes in storage and picking areas, the integration of a new e-commerce channel or the latest product line, and the implementation of a new layout or new automated systems.

ODATiO, which is capable of addressing current and future industry constraints, can fully manage both traditional and robotized warehouses and communicate with Savoye’s hardware technologies, including the company’s goods-to-person robotics solutions.

“It can adapt to the situation in a standard and progressive way and support the development ambitions of supply chain and logistics organizations. Also, it is being continually enhanced by new standard modules to enable access to updates of existing features. Nevertheless, the solution was born from the observation that, in a world where the supply chain is a real driver for competitiveness and performance for companies, logistics organization must be flexible. This flexibility empowers them to meet the ever-increasing demands of an evolving market,” Bouchet said.

ODATiO forms part of Savoye’s full supply chain application suite that can be integrated into any software-as-a-service (SaaS) as well as on-premise system. It caters to the needs of companies involved in the areas of 3PL (third-party logistics), luxury, retail, textile and fashion, office supplies, pharmaceuticals, beauty care, and industrial supplies.

The new solution combining WMS and TMS can be incorporated into any international business model and is immediately ready for application in the Middle East zone. Savoye assures full implementation support and maintenance of its application solutions delivered by its knowledgeable and professional pre-sales, sales, consultants, and project management teams based in Dubai.

French delegation of 18 companies to meet International Financial Institutions and leading Egyptian private partners

Philippe Garcia

Commercial counsellor, French Embassy in Egypt

Director, Business France Cairo

1st business delegation in Egypt since February 2020

June 7th to 9th, Cairo, Sofitel Gezirah.

Egypt- 7th June 2021 - while the French-Egyptian commercial relationship is growing stronger, Business France, the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy organizes from June 7th to 9th a three-day-event in Cairo : “French meeting days with IFIs and leading private partners in Egypt”.

In this favorable context, many key players of the French expertise in energy, mobility, water & sanitation, waste management, health and digital innovation, seized this opportunity to bring on board their best solutions in favor of an Egyptian sustainable development.

Since 2016 and the structural reforms undertaken by the Egyptian authorities with the support of the International Monetary Fund, Egypt has consolidated and developed strong economic relations with many nations, in particular with Europe, currently acting as Egypt’s first trading partner, first foreign investor, and first contributor in terms of development aid.

Since the European Union and the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) are dedicating important financial resources to Egypt’s sustainable economic development, this event contributes to encourage the private sector to play a key role in the Egyptian economic growth while giving the SME’s credit access.

As the main sector priorities considered by both IFIs’ and Egyptian Authorities’ are the renewable energies, mobility, health, water & sanitation, food security, education, and innovation/digitalization, we selected the following delegation to move the initiative forward: ALSTOM, BEAUDREY et CIE, COPPELIS, ETF, MAIDIS, MASCARA , RAGNI, RATP Dev, SETEC, SNCF, SOFIA EUROPA, STEAM France, SUEZ, TESALYS, THALES, VEOLIA, VINCI and VOLTALIA  .

The French Development Agency (AFD) itself is also strongly assisting Egypt in its transition towards a more inclusive and sustainable growth, mainly in energy (30% of its Egyptian portfolio, Egypt being AFD’s main partner regarding energy investments), water and sanitation (together with EIB and EU), health and social protection.

“As a testimony of the initiative’s relevance, all the IFIs active in Egypt – World Bank, IFC, AfDB, EBRD, EIB, EU, and Agence Française pour le Développement – are joining the event. Altogether,  we count on this three-day event to pave  the path to a wide, fruitful, and long-lasting cooperation for a more sustainable social and economic development in Egypt” commented Philippe Garcia – Director of Business France Egypt.

On the occasion of this business event, Business France along with the French Embassy in Egypt aim to increase the commercial cooperation between France and Egypt through a series of high-level discussions and meetings.

Gas a pragmatic answer to realise energy transition

  • GECF participates in the  St. Petersburg Forum (2-5 June)

  • Panel on energy transition features energy ministers, leaders and a Nobel laureate

  • A billion people without electricity and another 780+ million without clean cooking fuel cannot benefit from renewable energy solutions

Doha, QATAR – 4 June 2021: The destiny of the world rests in innovative utilisation of hydrocarbons whilst embracing the rise of renewables in the global energy mix, Secretary General of the largest consortium of gas exporting nations, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), said at the 24th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

“The world will need to power its economic growth through hydrocarbons, specifically the cleaner, abundant, and cheaper natural gas, for some time to come. It is obvious that the structure of the energy mix is becoming more diversified thanks to the expansion of renewables. However, fossil fuels are projected to remain dominant, accounting for 71% in 2050,” said HE Yury Sentyurin, during a panel on “The Future of Energy: Energy transition” (3 June 2021).

“As an organisation dedicated to studying and forecasting the innovative use of natural gas, the GECF believes that it is gas that can realistically bring about the most efficient and environmentally friendly energy transition.”

These remarks were echoed by HE Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister and former Energy Minister of Russia, who reiterated his belief that traditional energy sources are not going away in the next few decades.

“Energy transition is coming, it’s happening, but its’ space will depend on a number of questions and a number of different issues. We must not discount conventional energy sources which are going to stay with us for a while yet,” he said.

“Russia will support the development of conventional energies and will attempt to diversity natural gas markets and others in future. Let’s join our efforts and act in concert to work on the climate agenda without neglecting the conventional energy sources.”

The importance of a just and fair energy transition which benefits all populations of the world was underscored by HE Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of World Energy Council, who said her message is “energy for humanity”.

“We like to talk about technologies or resources or investments. But what we really need is an energy transition which is for people and planet …and as HE Novak has said it’s going to take a mix of all resources to do that,” she said.

“Innovation’s no longer about improving individual technologies, it’s about the integration of different technologies and their combination.”

These and similar themes form part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals too, for example, Goal #7 which aims to bring clean energy to all by 2030. Currently, close to a billion people around the world do not have access to electricity while over 780 million people in places such as Africa do not enjoy access to clean cooking fuel.

Nobel Laureate Chung Rae Kwon highlighted the ‘reductionist’ view of certain energy-transition proponents and reports which favour only one side of the picture.

“One issue we have not fully captured so far in the debate on energy transition is about the carbon emission from the consumption. The United Kingdom, for example, succeed in emission reduction by 40% in the last three decades but it is based on the production side. When you calculate from the consumption side, the per-capita consumption emission of British people never changed within the last three decades,” he said.

“I appreciate the comment about the pace and the practical way of using conventional energy in an environmentally friendly way.”

The producers’ viewpoint was advanced by HRH Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who said he is confident oil will be needed in the future to bring prosperity to all.

“I believe that our planet has always been in transition ever since god created it and will continue be in transition. It is the duty of human kind to make sure that we harness that transition, we master it, and we ensure that transition brings betterment to human lives regardless of what – and this is the trick – region they live in,” he said.

“The problem we have is there’s a type of condescending approach… Mitigating the issue of climate change, one needs to be inclusive. For that inclusiveness to happen people will need to be conscious of natural circumstances of all parties engaged.”

Resonating with his neighbour, HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs of Qatar and President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum called some recent reports on climate change very “dangerous”.

“There is this euphoria about the energy transition that everybody is getting excited, maybe overly excited, in discussing this issue. In some reports, I mean the International Energy Agency said that we shouldn’t invest in oil and gas. I think there is a very big danger that we are going into this kind of discussion where we understand that when we deprive the business from additional investments you have big spikes and you deprive nations,” he said.

“We all have the responsibility to produce in a more environmentally sensitive way. We are using the best emission technology that’s available, we are monitoring methane emissions, we have to do carbon sequestration and storage and take this as something front and centre. But we need to be careful lest we deprive investment in oil and gas sector; that’s going to really harm humanity and the more than a billion people that actually don’t have electricity today.”

According to the latest GECF estimates available in the organisation’s flagship publication of the GECF Global Gas Outlook 2050, natural gas will become the leading source of energy in the global primary mix by mid-century, increasing its share from 23% today to 28%.

The session was moderated by Sergey Brilev, President of Global Energy Association and renowned journalist, who incidentally delivered a keynote at the GECF Gas Lecture series in April 2021 under the title of ‘Global Energy: Supporting Science and Innovation’.
