Sophos adds cloud visibility features from Cloud Optix to Intercept X Advanced for Server with EDR

Dubai, UAE, August 25 , 2020 – Sophos, a global leader in next-generation cybersecurity, today

announced, that Intercept X for Server Advanced with EDR has been enhanced with powerful cloud

visibility features from Cloud Optix. This integration gives customers critical insights into their wider

cloud environments, including security groups, hosts, shared storage, databases, serverless,

containers, and more in addition to the details on AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud workloads.

“Intercept X Advanced for Server with EDR and Intercept X Advanced with EDR give organizations

unparalleled visibility and protection across their cloud, on-premises, and virtual estates. Cloud

Optix shines a spotlight on complete cloud environments, showing what’s there, what needs

securing, and making sure that everything stays safe and secure,” said Richard Beckett, public cloud

senior product marketing manager at Sophos. “The dynamic nature of cloud environments – with

assets being spun up and down as and when necessary to meet changing demands – can make

security and compliance assessments time-consuming. In many cases, organizations need to log into

multiple consoles and manually collate information to get a full picture. With Sophos, it’s easy as

organizations get details about the entire cloud infrastructure across different public cloud providers

on one screen, in a single management console and can dive directly into assets to get more detail

about the organization’s asset inventory and cloud security posture.”

Key features:

 Cloud asset inventory – see a detailed inventory of your entire cloud infrastructure (e.g. cloud

hosts, serverless functions, S3 buckets, databases, and cloud workloads), eliminating the need

for time-consuming manual collation

 Access and traffic anomaly detection – unusual login attempts and suspicious traffic patterns are

automatically detected and blocked or flagged to the admin as appropriate

 Security scans – daily and on-demand scans monitor your cloud environment to ensure its on-

going security. Issues are automatically resolved where possible, with admin notification if

manual intervention is required

 Configuration guardrails – stop accidental or malicious tampering with configurations that could

negatively impact security posture

 Compliance policies – ensure that your cloud environment conforms to Center for Internet

Security (CIS) best practices, helping keep your security posture at its best

 Alert management integrations – receive email notifications when manual intervention is

required

Powerful visibility and protection for every setup

This exciting new cloud functionality is available to all Intercept X Advanced for Server with EDR

customers at no additional cost. Log into your Sophos Central console, select Cloud Optix, and you

can get started right away.

Current customers using Sophos Central that would like to try out this new functionality – in addition

to the recently released EDR IT operations and threat hunting capabilities – can start a trial from

within the Sophos Central console.

Fortinet Research Demonstrates Enterprises Must Adapt to Address Telework Security Challenges Long-term

2020 Remote Workforce Cybersecurity Report Shows How Organizations Are Increasing

Investments to Secure Remote Work at Scale

Dubai, UAE., August 25, 2020

News Summary

Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT), a global leader in broad, integrated, and automated

cybersecurity solutions, today unveiled the 2020 Remote Workforce Cybersecurity

Report.

 The report investigates the cybersecurity challenges that organizations faced as

a result of the dramatic shift to telework early this year and the planned

investments to secure remote work in 2020 and beyond.

 This report is based on a survey conducted in June 2020. Participants are

employed in 17 different countries, representing nearly all industries and the

public sector.

 For a detailed view of the report, as well as some important takeaways, read the

blog. Highlights of the report follow.

“The COVID-19 pandemic will have lasting effects on how organizations invest in

cybersecurity. In fact, over 90% of enterprises plan to invest more to secure telework

over the next two years. Given a dramatically expanded digital attack surface, the waves

of cyber threats targeting remote workers, and the ongoing cyber skills gap,

organizations need to carefully consider what technologies and approaches are needed

to secure their telework strategies long-term,” said John Maddison, EVP of Products

and CMO at Fortinet. “They have an opportunity to maximize their investments with

cybersecurity platforms designed to provide comprehensive visibility and protection

across the entire digital infrastructure, including networked, application, multi-cloud, and

mobile environments. This ongoing shift to remote work will also require more than just

technology; cybersecurity training and awareness should also remain key priorities.”

The Sudden Shift to Telework Was Challenging for Most Organizations

 As the COVID-19 pandemic spread rapidly in the first half of 2020, many

organizations were required to shift to telework practically overnight as teams

around the globe were asked to stay home. Nearly two-thirds of the firms

surveyed had to rapidly transition over half of their workforce to telework. In

addition, most respondents said the rapid change presented a challenge to their

organization, with 83% citing it as moderately, very, or extremely challenging.

Only 3% were not at all challenged.

 In addition, the evolving remote work environment, increased reliance on

personal device usage, and overall influx of workers outside the corporate

network opened an opportunity for unprecedented cyber threat activity. From

opportunistic phishers to scheming nation-state actors, cyber adversaries found

multiple ways to exploit the global pandemic for their benefit at enormous scale

as evidenced by a recent FortiGuard Labs Global Threat Landscape Report.

Threats included phishing and business email compromise schemes, nation-

state backed campaigns, and ransomware attacks. In fact, 60% of organizations

revealed an increase in cybersecurity breach attempts during the transition to

remote work, while 34% reported actual breaches in their networks.

 With a spike in employees remotely connecting to the corporate network, an

increase in breach attempts and overall cyber attacks, organizations cited the

most challenging aspects of this transition as ensuring secure connections,

business continuity, and access to business-critical applications.

 At the time of the survey enterprises had already invested in key technologies as

a result of the pandemic. Nearly half of organizations invested further in VPN and

cloud security, while nearly 40% invested further in skilled IT professionals or

network access control (NAC).

There is Still Room for Improvement: Almost All Enterprises Will Invest More in

Secure Telework

Given the number of attempted breaches and overall waves of cyber threats targeting

remote workers, organizations need to carefully consider what technologies and

approaches are needed to secure telework moving forward. Defense strategies need to

be adjusted to fully account for the extension of the network perimeter into the home.

 As of June this year, a long-term shift to telework is anticipated, with nearly 30%

of organizations expecting more than half of their employees to continue working

remotely full time after the pandemic.

 Almost all organizations expect to invest more to secure telework long-term, with

nearly 60% of enterprises spending more than $250,000 in secure telework

investments in the next 24 months.

 Moving forward, the majority of enterprises surveyed intend to make unplanned

upgrades to their existing systems to secure telework. Many also plan to add new

technologies not previously in place.

 Only 40% of organizations had a business continuity plan in place prior to the

pandemic. Yet, as a result of the pandemic and the rapid shift to remote work,

32% invested further in this area.

While organizations have made improvements in securing their remote workforces since

the beginning of the pandemic, survey data reveals several areas that could be

considered opportunities for improving secure remote connectivity. These areas include:

 Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) – The survey revealed that 65% of

organizations had VPN solutions in place pre-pandemic, but only 37% of

organizations had multi-factor authentication (MFA). While VPNs play an

important role in ensuring secure connectivity, they are simply one part of

securing access. Therefore, if not already in place, it is recommended that

organizations consider integrating MFA into their remote security plans.

 Endpoint Security and Network Access Control (NAC) – 76% and 72% of

organizations plan to either upgrade or adopt NAC or endpoint detection and

response (EDR) solutions respectively. As employees work remotely,

organizations face challenges to control the influx of non-trusted devices on their

networks to enable remote work, creating new security challenges overnight. By

adopting NAC solutions, IT teams get increased visibility and control over the

users and devices on their network. EDR solutions deliver advanced, real-time

threat protection for endpoints both pre- and post-infection.

 Software-defined Wide-area Networking (SD-WAN) for the Home: 64% of

organizations plan to either upgrade or adopt SD-WAN, but specifically for the

home office. The critical advantage of extending secure SD-WAN functionality to

individual teleworkers, especially super users, is that they can enjoy on-demand

remote access as well as dynamically scalable performance regardless of their

local network availability.

 Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) – 17% of organizations made

investments in SASE prior to the pandemic, and 16% invested in SASE as a

result of the pandemic. Still, 58% plan to invest in SASE to some degree going

forward. Although SASE is an emerging enterprise strategy, it is increasingly

seen as an opportunity to combine network and security functions with WAN

capabilities to support the dynamic, secure access needs of today’s

organizations.

 Skilled Security Professionals - At the start of the pandemic, only 55% of

organizations had enough skilled IT workers in place to support the shift to

remote work. And while 73% of organizations stated their intention to invest

further in skilled IT workers in the next 24 months, the historical lack of skilled IT

security professionals could present a challenge.

IoT & AI are gaining momentum globally – Is the UAE ready?

IoT & AI are gaining momentum globally – Is the UAE ready?

To drive IoT and AI success, UAE companies must look at them through the lens of customer experience and business strategy

By Pieter Bensch, Executive Vice-President at Sage Africa & Middle East

Even before the outbreak of the pandemic, it was clear that artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are here to stay. The growing reliance on digital platforms to ensure business continuity through the work from home period solidified this insight. Worldwide, spending on IoT is expected to increase 15.4 per cent to US$745 billion this year, according to IDC. As for AI systems, the market researcher projected that global spending was set to climb 44 per cent to nearly US$36 billion in 2019.

This surge in spending means that companies in the UAE need to step up their investment to remain globally competitive. But rather than thinking about these disruptive trends as new technology platforms, companies should embrace them for what they really are – a way to transform their business and its processes.

AI and IoT projects tend to fall short of the mark in helping companies to radically improve their business processes when they are not viewed through a strategic lens. As was the case with mobile and the cloud – success in IoT and AI will come from understanding how these solutions can reshape consumer and employee behaviour as well as how they can be leveraged to transform business operations and operating models.

More than just another tech project

IoT and AI aren’t simple technology projects – and implementing them isn’t a valid goal in itself. They are value creation tools, a way to transform the customer experience and reinvent business processes for the digital age. To maximise their potential, the business’s senior leadership should drive a comprehensive strategy and consider how these tools can enable new business models, underpin innovation and bring massive improvements to efficiency and productivity.

The IoT is a complex and interconnected network of related parts that sense context, transfer data, process information and initiate action. Data streams originating from all sorts of sensors built into a wide variety of “things” (for instance, machines, cars, mobile and immobile goods, clothes, or even human beings) enable companies to create innovative processes, services and products.

The real magic comes into play when machine learning is used to put that data to work. Smart algorithms and AI can be applied to data collected at scale to find patterns, trends and indicators that the human eye might miss. A few of the possibilities include:

Using predictive maintenance for technical infrastructure in cities, factories, plants and other environments to improve the reliability of machinery while reducing maintenance costs.
Leveraging traffic data from many different sources, including smart city data from traffic lights, streets, or other vehicles to optimise the management of corporate and government vehicle fleets.
Creating innovative consumer offerings, such as Amazon-style dash buttons to supply customers automatically and predictively with goods and services.
Providing medical care services. For example, consider using wearables and even ingestible sensors in the future, to monitor older people living alone at home.
Using automation to free human beings from tedious manual work. AI-powered chatbots on a website will be able to handle many common customer queries and requests. At the same time, robotic process automation can carry out repetitive tasks such as accessing data from back-end systems to populate forms.

The leaders in digital transformation will have the ability to build, deliver and repeat innovations based on AI and IoT significantly better than their competitors who do not use these technologies. But to get it right, business leaders will need to understand the role these technologies– and others like blockchain – can play from a business outcome perspective.

Business leaders that begin with a vision for using these digital technologies to transform customer, employee and partner experiences will enjoy a headstart in achieving the goals of the business.

Immersion, an exhibition that pays tribute to the magnificent Great Barrier Reef

While they cover only 0.2% of the world’s oceans, coral reefs are home to 30% of marine biodiversity. These cocoons of life, essential to humankind in many ways, are threatened on a massive scale. As part of its 2020 thematic programme devoted to coral reefs, with the “Immersion” exhibition as its highlight, the Oceanographic Museum allows visitors to have an in-depth view of the beauty and fragility of these ecosystems and emphasize the importance of protecting them.

Running for over a year, the prestigious Salle de la Baleine at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco will serve as the stage for a virtual and immersive aquatic ballet: the “Immersion” exhibition. This innovative concept was conceived by the Oceanographic Museum in order to offer an experience that combines the spectacular and the engaging, with an enhanced level of interaction and an unrivalled feeling of immersion.

An immersive, interactive and communal journey to the other end of the world

Thanks to the use of advanced technologies and a real-time projection system, “Immersion” allows the public to discover and interact with an environment which is fictional in its conception, but realistic and natural in its presentation. With an experience centered around the realism of the sensation of diving, visitors - like divers during their exploration - can see the various species evolve naturally around them, as they interact according to their behavior, their movements and their gestures.
