Over 40 international experts will be participating in a symposium to discuss projects worth US$23 billion, that will transform Riyadh and the lives of its 7 million citizens.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 15 October 2019—(AETOSWire): The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), formally known as Riyadh Development Authority, has invited international experts to participate in an symposium setting out the next chapter in Riyadh’s development as a sustainable city, one that will enhance the lives of its citizens, while finding solutions to the difficult challenges facing all cities across the world today.
‘Riyadh: The Sustainable City’ Symposium will take place on November 12 & 13, 2019 in Riyadh and will focus on four of the capital’s most ambitious projects, launched by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and stemming from an initiative from Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince.
These four projects are transformative and will help to establish Riyadh as one of the most livable cities in the world.
King Salman Park (www.riyadhksp.sa/en/) promises to be the largest green city park in the world; Sports Boulevard (www.riyadhalmasar.sa/en/) will be a state-of-the-art new health and wellness destination in the heart of the city; Green Riyadh (www.riyadhgreen.sa/en/) will focus on planting 7.5 million trees all over the city; and Riyadh Art (www.riyadhart.sa/en/) will delight art lovers with its 1,000 curated art pieces, iconic installations and annual arts festival through its world-class interactive public arts program.
The symposium will invite discussion across a variety of subject areas, including climate change; sustainable urban development; conservation of the natural environment; critical resource management; energy conservation, production and management; legal frameworks and initiatives to support positive change; and transformative social activation.
The four projects complement Saudi Vision 2030’s ‘Quality of Life’ Program and are aligned with the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, to create sustainable cities and communities, while driving urgent action against climate change.
Professor David Griggs, an expert in sustainable city planning, who will be attending the symposium, commented: “The challenge of transforming a rapidly growing city in the desert into a sustainable, responsible and inspiring place to live is enormous. The world’s largest urban parks, 7.5 million trees to green the city, a 135 km sports corridor and more than 1,000 pieces of public art, are just

وستنعقد ندوة "الرياض: المدينة المستدامة" خلال الفترة ما بين 12-13 نوفمبر 2019 في مدينة الرياض، وستركز على المشاريع التنموية الأربعة الطموحة التي تم تدشينها من قبل خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود، والمنبثقة عن مبادرة سمو الأمير محمد بن سلمان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود، ولي العهد.
وتتسم هذه المشاريع الأربعة بخصائصها التحوّلية وستساعد في جعل العاصمة الرياض واحدة من أكثر المدن ملائمة للعيش في العالم.
هذا وستكون حديقة الملك سلمان (www.riyadhksp.sa/en/) أكبر الحدائق الحضرية العامة في العالم، فيما سيشكل المسار الرياضي (www.riyadhalmasar.sa/en/) وجهة جديدة ومتطورة في قلب المدينة للعناية بالصحة والرفاه، أما مشروع الرياض الخضراء (www.riyadhgreen.sa/en/) فسيركز على زراعة 7.5 مليون شجرة في كافة أنحاء المدينة؛ كما سيحظى مشروع الرياض آرت (www.riyadhart.sa/en/) على اهتمام عشاق الفن من خلال 1000 عمل فني إلى جانب تصاميم فنية أيقونية ومهرجان فني سنوي، وذلك ضمن إطار برنامج الأعمال الفنية العامة التفاعلي وعالمي المستوى.
وستشهد الندوة إجراء محادثات حول عدد من المجالات ومن ضمنها التغير المناخي، والتطوير الحضري المستدام، والحفاظ على البيئة الطبيعية، وإدارة الموارد الحيوية، وإدارة وإنتاج والحفاظ على الطاقة، وأطر العمل والمبادرات القانونية لدعم التغيير الإيجابي، وتفعيل المسيرة التحوّلية الاجتماعية.
وتستكمل هذه المشاريع الأربعة التحوّلية برنامج "جودة الحياة" ضمن رؤية المملكة 2030، وترتبط بشكل مباشر بأهداف التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة، الهادفة إلى إنشاء مدن ومجتمعات مستدامة واتخاذ الإجراءات العاجلة ضد تغير المناخ.
وقال البروفيسور ديفيد جريجز، الخبير في مجال تخطيط المدن المستدامة، والذي سيشارك في مجريات الندوة في سياق تعليقه: "لا شك بأن إحداث تحوّل جذري في مدينة متسارعة النمو بالصحراء لتصبح مكاناً ملائماً للعيش ومستداماً ومسؤولاً ومُلهماً هو تحدي ضخم جداً. إن أكبر الحدائق الحضرية العامة في العالم، وزراعة 7.5 مليون شجرة في المدينة، وإنشاء مسارات رياضية بطول 135 كيلومتراً، إلى جانب تصميم 1000 عمل من الأعمال الفنية العامة، هي مجرد أربعة من مجموعة المشاريع التي ستؤدي إلى إحداث تحوّل في المدينة. وستجمع ندوة ’الرياض: المدينة المستدامة‘ عدداً من الخبراء الرائدين عالمياً لتقديم وجهات نظرهم السديدة والنصائح حول هذه المشاريع ومساعدة الرياض على بناء مستقبل سيفخر به أبناؤها والعالم على حد سواء".
