MEPRA Creative Festival and 10th PR Awards Brings together More than 500 Professionals to Learn, Share Knowledge and Celebrate the Industry’s Best

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 29 November 2018 –(AETOSWire)– The Middle East Public Relations Association (MEPRA) concluded its inaugural creative communications festival, REMAP, last night with more than 500 industry professionals in attendance. The festival included a creative proposal competition, masterclasses and a congress, and culminated with the 10th MEPRA Awards Gala on the 28th November 2018. The Awards ceremony saw Brazen take home Small Agency of the Year and Hill+Knowlton Strategies win the coveted tile of Large Agency of the Year.




The Small In-House Team of the Year prize was awarded to Marriott International MEA and Large In-House Team of the Year went to Emirates Global Aluminium. Big winners for the night were Hill+Knowlton Strategies, who took home 13 awards, closely followed by Four Communications Group with 12 awards to their name. This year marked the 10th edition of the MEPRA Awards, which celebrates and recognises the most impactful and creative campaigns in the Middle East. More than 30 agencies and in-house communication teams were shortlisted across 26 categories.




Brazen’s Jennifer Love and Etihad Aviation Group’s Ellie Swingewood were crowned The Dave Robinson Outstanding Young Communicators of the Year, for Agency and In-house respectively, and will each receive a MEPRA Academy scholarship. The prize includes eight complimentary training sessions from the 2019 MEPRA Academy calendar to assist with their continuous professional development.




The 2018 Chairman’s award was awarded to Amina Taher, VP Corporate Affairs, Etihad Aviation Group for outstanding contribution to the industry.




This year saw 231 entries submitted, which were assessed by a panel of more than 50 regional and international industry experts to select the 2018 finalists and winners. The judging process was also reviewed by AMEC CEO Barry Leggetter, who served as an independent adjudicator.

For the first time, the MEPRA Awards were preluded by a series of industry events under the brand REMAP. The three-day festival provided practitioners from across the region the chance to learn, share knowledge and celebrate the best through one event in Dubai. The REMAP masterclasses, which were held from 26-27 November, 2018 included a workshop on ‘How to Run a PR Agency’, led by David Brain, the former President and CEO of Edelman, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, and a session on ‘Mastering Government Communications’ with Gemmaine Walsh, the Director of Communications for the UK Government.




The REMAP creative communications congress held on the 28th November in the lead up to the Awards brought in six renowned international speakers to discuss the evolution of modern PR, building connections through content and tapping into the minds of content creators to unleash the undiscovered realm of creative thinking.




Speakers included, Anthony Geffen, an Emmy & BAFTA Award winning creative director; Ryan Holiday, a marketing guru and international best-selling author; and Gerry Hopkinson, CEO and Founder of Unity London, an agency which has been awarded ‘Most Creative Agency in the World’ by Holmes Report and Creative Consultancy of the Year by SABRE. ETIHAD AIRWAYS CELEBRATES LAUNCH OF SERVICES TO BARCELONA

Spectacular evening reception held at the historic Capella dels Angels

Barcelona, Spain – Etihad Airways has celebrated the launch of its new scheduled service to Barcelona in style by hosting a spectacular evening reception at the historic Capella dels Angels, a sixteenth-century Gothic building which is now part of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA). An Unprecedented Initiative Supported By the United Arab Emirates

The Council of Arab Economic Unity announces “A common vision for Arab digital economy”


Boston, United States of America, November 30, 2018, (AETOSWire): “A common vision for Arab Digital Economy” is the bold plan driven by the Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) at the League of Arab States to boost political and social stability in the Arab World through Digital Economy.

Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity, said that the initiative received the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces. The plan aims at digital inclusion, knowledge-based legislative and technology infrastructure, and public and private frameworks that will boost security, welfare and prosperity for the Arab societies.

The UAE’s support for the common Arab vision will promote a joint Arab action. Al-Khouri stressed on the importance of the role of technology as a tool to achieve the objectives of sustainable development and economic growth rates through creation of investments opportunities, employment and opening of new markets.

The UAE is renowned for its knowledge-based approach and youth empowerment. The UAE has been fostering a number of initiatives for skills development like the one million Arab coders project and the e-learning platform offering over 50 million Arab students across the world access to education among other projects that support sustainable development for the Arab societies.

The Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) is the execution arm for the plan. CAEU delegation met with Mourad Wahba, Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administration and Regional Director for Arab States at UNDP and with senior officials from the United Nation’s Division for public institutions & Digital Government. Al-Khouri noted that the investments directed towards the Arab regions by UNDP is one Billion US Dollars.

“This initiative will be the foundation to promote the social and economic security for the Arab societies. That is why it is important to cooperate with international organizations and bring together Arab and International thinkers and practitioners for the development of the strategy. Such involvement will ensure global influence and introduction”, stated Al-Khouri.

“This is a new model for developing Arab world’s economies to tackle global challenges. The UAE is putting its expertise to use to boost sustainable development in the Arab states”, Al-Khouri concluded.

The strategy will be presented in an international conference that will be hosted in AbuDhabi on 16 & 17 December 2018. The outputs will be presented to the Arab Leaders at the Arab Summit scheduled in March 2019 in Tunisia.



The World Bank noted the importance of the strategy in paving the way for inclusive economic development opportunities in the Arab world. UN, UNDP and the World Bank support the initiative and CAEU for its work for comprehensive development and enhancement of cooperation between the Arab states.

وقال الدكتور المهندس علي محمد الخوري مستشار مجلس الوحدة الاقتصادية العربية، إن المبادرة حظيت بمباركة ودعم صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان ولي عهد أبو ظبي نائب القائد الأعلى للقوات المسلحة ، مشيراً إلى أنها تهدف إلى دفع الاستقرار الاجتماعي والاقتصادي في الوطن العربي من خلال التكنولوجيا القائمة على المعرفة الرقمية لتحقيق الأمن والأمان والرفاهية للمجتمعات العربية.

وأشار الخوري إلى سلسلة من الاجتماعات الدولية التي عقدها مجلس الوحدة الاقتصادية العربية في جامعة الدول العربية كان آخرها في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية مع ممثلي منظمة الأمم المتحدة والبرنامج الإنمائي والبنك الدولي بهدف تعزيز جهود المؤسسات الدولية الفاعلة والمعنية بتطوير الاقتصادات العالمية وبرامج الاستقرار المجتمعي والتنموي.

وأوضح أن دعم دولة الإمارات للمبادرة التي تمثل رؤية عربية مشتركة من شأنه أن يسهم في تبني الحلول الاقتصادية العربية من منظور عربي شمولي مبني على أسس التعاون والعمل العربي المشترك، مؤكدا دور التكنولوجيا الحديثة وتوظيفها باعتبارها أداة لتحقيق مستهدفات التنمية المستدامة ومعدلات نمو اقتصادية من خلال خلق فرص استثمارية وعمل ودعم أسواق جديدة.

وأكد أن نهج دولة الإمارات يقوم على تعزيز الاستقرار الاجتماعي والاقتصادي والتمكين المعرفي للشباب العربي فقد أطلقت الدولة العديد من البرامج لتعزيز المجتمعات المعرفية مثل " مشروع مليون مبرمج عربي " ومنصة مدرسة الإلكترونية للتعلم " التي تقدم دروسا في مواد الرياضيات والعلوم مجانا لأكثر من 50 مليون طالب عربي حول العالم وغيرها من المشاريع التي تدعم التنمية المستدامة للمجتمعات العربية.

ونوه بأن مجلس الوحدة الاقتصادية العربية يعد الجهة المسؤولة عن الاستراتيجية العربية وتعزيز التعاون مع المنظمات الدولية في هذا المجال حيث اجتمع وفد المجلس مع مراد وهبه الأمين العام المساعد للأمم المتحدة والمدير الإقليمي لمكتب الدول العربية في برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي ومع كبار المسؤولين في شعبة الأمم المتحدة للقطاع العام والحكومة الرقمية، مشيرا إلى أن استثمارات المكتب الإنمائي في الدول العربية تقدر بحوالي مليار دولار أميركي. 

وأكد الخوري أن هذا المشروع يشكل أرضية مشتركة تؤسس للنهوض بالمجتمعات العربية واقتصاداتها وأمنها الاجتماعي والاقتصادي. 

وأشار إلى أهمية تعزيز التعاون مع المنظمات الدولية العاملة في مجال التنمية المستدامة عبر مشاركة المنظمات الدولية ونخب من المفكرين والممارسين العرب والدوليين في تطوير هذه الاستراتيجية لضمان عالمية المحتوى والطرح لتحقيق الأهداف المنشودة".
