Iconic Bridge Project Connecting Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau Adopts BIM Methodology, Reducing Construction Costs by 12%

March 6, 2018 - The Leighton-Chun Wo joint venture standardized on a BIM methodology to drive consistency on this large multi-discipline design project that will connect Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai. This revolutionary project includes 50 kilometers of bridges and tunnels and will create a distinctive entry point to Hong Kong. Leighton Asia conducted the civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, subsurface, and building work as the lead contractor for this ambitious project. The 130-hectare site will include site formations, roads, bridges, clearance buildings, footbridges, steel roofs, and various public facility buildings. Despite the challenge of a project team spread across several countries using a range of software applications, Leighton Asia provided consistency and uniformity for the design, survey, and construction of this transportation gateway, scheduled for completion in 2018.

For this USD 4.6 billion project, Leighton Asia leveraged Bentley technology to meet a variety of construction challenges. By standardizing on MicroStation’s DGN format, architects, engineers, contractors, and surveyors had simplified access to their design models and associated data. For the roadway design, the team used OpenRoads for conceptioneering the proposed designs. It then cross-referenced against the as-built, which ensured accuracy and improved error resolution. iModels were used as the data exchange format to ensure fidelity and integrity of engineering data. Bentley Navigator was used for clash detection and analysis, which resolved errors and issues prior to construction, reducing construction costs by 12 percent. Moreover, the team used ProjectWise as the connected data environment ensuring the engineering data could be access by a distributed project team.

Implementing BIM processes enabled a new method for working, which created a new culture within the organization that improved efficiency and streamlined workflows. By following BIM processes, project participants were trained using the same comprehensive modeling environment and BIM applications. Additionally, surveyors and design teams used Bentley’s reality modeling solution to capture and enliven digital photographs and point-cloud data of the existing site conditions. Leighton Asia contracted The Earth Solutions for technical and training support to integrate the reality mesh into the engineering environment, ensuring 3D BIM models could be cross-referenced with continuously surveyed models. This coordination reduced the cost associated with surveying by 15 percent by streamlining their workflows and adding expertise.

“Bentley’s civil BIM advancements bring BIM to the next stage by multiplying its benefits, especially in challenging and large-scale infrastructure projects. This platform has enhanced our collaboration with various stakeholders to import, acquire, and exchange valuable information.”

Las Vegas, NV (HIMSS18 Conference & Exhibition), Tinton Falls, NJ and Palo Alto, CA – March 6, 2018 - Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), a global leader in enterprise backup, recovery, archive and the cloud, today announced a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to deliver Commvault healthcare solutions to HPE customers. Through this reseller agreement announced today, HPE and its global network partners will now be selling fully integrated and pre-validated versions of Commvault’s portfolio of healthcare solutions on HPE infrastructure. These solutions include Commvault Clinical Archive and the Commvault Data Platform to protect and manage critical MEDITECH, Epic and other EHR data, as well as medical images across the healthcare enterprise, with a fast, simple and comprehensive solution. Today’s announcement was made at HIMSS18, being held March 5–9, in Las Vegas.

These new Commvault healthcare solutions extend the scope of the HPE Complete Commvault Software offering, enabling healthcare customers with industry-leading data protection that is tightly integrated and optimized for HPE Storage and other infrastructure products, including HPE StoreOnce, HPE 3PAR, HPE Nimble Storage, HPE Apollo, and HPE Proliant. The introduction of Commvault Clinical Archive on HPE infrastructure is the first enterprise medical image management solution HPE has brought to the market, and is designed to simplify access to - and management of - imaging data created in disparate PACS solutions.

“Increasing amounts and types of mission-critical data, stricter regulatory requirements, and the growing threat from ransomware and other cybersecurity attacks are increasing the costs and complexity of data management and protection for healthcare organizations,” said Patrick Osborne, director of storage and big data product management at HPE. “With this agreement, our healthcare customers now have a one-stop shop for finding HPE integrated and certified Commvault solutions that help them to simplify data management and protection, increase data availability, reduce costs, and minimize regulatory compliance risk, while also empowering them to better activate data for valuable insights.”

“Our partnership with HPE significantly increases the opportunity to get our powerful data management solutions into the hands of healthcare organizations facing enormous challenges related to data management and protection,” said Fred Mills, senior director, Commvault Healthcare at Commvault. “The availability of fully integrated, certified Commvault healthcare solutions from HPE marks a significant step forward in making it easier for the healthcare industry to implement holistic data management strategies that accelerate digital transformation initiatives and improve patient care while reducing IT complexity.”

Commvault healthcare solutions sold through HPE include:

Commvault Clinical Archive – Combining clinical archiving with a comprehensive data management platform, Commvault Clinical Archive transforms vendor-neutral archiving (VNA) into a complete “enterprise image archiving” solution, and simplifies access to - and management of - data created in disparate PACS solutions. Commvault Clinical Archive provides the flexibility to archive medical imaging data on premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid storage solution. It ensures all archived data is readily available for use by clinicians; the archive can be configured to deliver relevant historical studies identified with a DICOM modality worklist or HL7 ADT interface. Plus, the open platform supports all common data standards — DICOM and non-DICOM images — as well as PDFs, JPEGs, annotations, and more. Because it is based on the Commvault Data Platform, data can be moved to the cloud with ease. Commvault’s clinical archiving capabilities also provide a simple, cost-effective way to manage, migrate and retire legacy PACS applications.

Epic, MEDITECH, and other vendor-agnostic EHR Data Protection – Automated snapshot management is at the heart of Commvault’s EHR data protection. The array-based storage hardware snapshots are integrated directly into the data management platform for seamless protection of data for all EHR systems and sub-systems. Entire file systems and databases can be recovered within moments of failure — mitigating the risk of patient information loss.

HPE and Commvault will both be exhibiting at the HIMSS18 Conference & Exhibition, March 5-9, 2018 in Las Vegas. Commvault will be at number 8001. HPE will be at booth number 2127.

GCC visitors contribute over 30% to hotel occupancy levels across Northern Emirates in 2017

GCC visitors lead check-ins across Fujairah (39%), Ras Al Khaimah (34%) and Sharjah (34%)

The number of ATM visitors interested in doing business with the UAE increased 54% between 2016 and 2017.

GCC visitors are driving demand in the UAE’s Northern Emirates, comprising more than 30% of hotel check-ins, which saw a positive uptick in Year-on-Year (YoY) occupancy, according to data released ahead of Arabian Travel Market 2018, which takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre from April 22-25.

The data shows that of the overall increase in occupancy, in Fujairah, GCC residents now make up 39% of the emirate’s total occupancy levels, 34% in Ras Al Khaimah and 34% in Sharjah, a trend that ATM expects to continue.

Simon Press, Senior Exhibition Director, ATM, said: “The Northern Emirates are becoming increasingly popular, especially with GCC visitors, as Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah all recorded significant growth from the regional market in 2017.

“There are many reasons. Improved transport infrastructure has certainly boosted staycations particularly from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and visitors from Oman, as well as new luxury properties and a host of new attractions has boosted arrival numbers. With the launch of a shuttle bus service between Dubai International Airport and Ras Al Khaimah, visitors can be transported to the northern emirate within 45 minutes.”

Reflecting this growth, during ATM 2017 the number of delegates, exhibitors and attendees interested in doing business with the UAE increased 54% compared to the 2016 edition of the show. While, the number of UAE visitors to the show has increased 38% over the last five years.

Looking ahead to ATM 2018, more than 60 UAE exhibitors will participate in the show, including three new exhibitors: Desert Gate Tourism, A.A.Al Moosa Enterprises, and Carlton Hotels & Suites.

Press continued: “Just as Dubai and Abu Dhabi have their own unique set of visitor attractions, we now see the northern emirates carving a stronger identity, supported by their respective tourism authorities, and this has underlined the growth in visitor numbers and the resulting performance of key metrics that we have seen.”

In 2017, high visitor numbers increased overall average occupancy for the year with the UAE’s national average occupancy reaching over 75% by the end of 2017.

While the markets of the Northern Emirates are smaller than their Dubai and Abu Dhabi counterparts in terms of supply, they are evolving quickly. Ras Al Khaimah, is working on an unprecedented pipeline, which will more than double the number of hotel rooms, from 6,200 currently to 12,800, the largest proportionate pipeline in the GCC. With plans to attract one million visitors for the first time in 2018, adventure tourism plays a key role in Ras Al Khaimah following the high profile opening of Via Ferrata on Jebel Jais, in November 2016.

With nature, culture and heritage, Sharjah also saw an increase in international arrivals in 2017 and, although traditionally dependent on domestic visitors, overseas arrivals are on the rise. Its current pipeline stands at 2,200 rooms.

Fujairah’s hotel industry has transformed over recent months, with the closing of the near 40-year old Hilton Fujairah and the debut of new properties operated by Emaar Hospitality, Fairmont and Intercontinental. In total, the emirate will add 600 keys to its current stock of 4,300 rooms.

Press added: “The last 12 months have set the stage for more record-breaking arrival figures and hotel pipelines across the UAE. In line with their 2020 targets, each emirate is working hard to attract its share of domestic and international tourists and, as the figures demonstrate, their efforts are paying off.”

Last year, ATM – considered by industry professionals as a barometer for the Middle East and North Africa tourism sector, welcomed over 39,000 people to its 2017 event, including 2,661 exhibiting companies, signing business deals worth more than $2.5 billion over the four days. This year the show theme is responsible tourism.

Celebrating its 25th year, ATM 2018 will build on the success of this year’s edition, with a host of seminar sessions looking back over the last 25 years and how the hospitality industry in the MENA region is expected to shape up over the next 25.
