Careem Celebrates 5 Years of Moving the Region Toward Better Living


Cairo, Egypt, 24 July 2017 Careem, the leading ride-hailing service in the Middle East and North Africa, marks an important milestone in its rapid growth story as it celebrates five years of reinventing transportation in the region and making lives simpler for millions of people.
In just five years, Careem has grown its presence to more than 80 cities in the broader MENATP region, growing at over 30% month-on-month during this period. While doing so, it has turned itself into one of the region’s biggest homegrown success stories and a poster child for the thriving startup scene, drawing in a steady stream of funding and expertise from renowned regional and international investors to become the region’s sole billion-dollar internet company – and a self-proclaimed ‘unicamel’.

As a token of its appreciation, Careem Egypt held a special ceremony to honor its high-performing Captains at its Cairo office. The company will also launch a campaign asking its customers to help put a smile on their Captain’s face for the week after to the company’s fifth birthday. Customers are encouraged to gift their Captains off-the-wall gifts and share it on their social media channels with the hashtag #Careemturns5. Five customers will get the chance to win EGP 5,000 each. The Captain of the winning customer will also win EGP 5,000.
Contributing to job creation in every market in which it operates, Careem currently has more than 50,000 Captains in Egypt working across 10 cities nationwide to provide a reliable, safe and affordable transportation choices for all Egyptians. The company plans to add more cities to its network by introducing its services in Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, Al Minia, and Assuit by end of 2017. Since September 2016, Careem managed to merge white taxi into the Careem network in Greater Cairo and Hurghada with very solid plans to extend the service in other governorates in order to cover the great demand on transportation services in the Egyptian market.

Report: IBM Global Business Services Ranked #1 for Mindshare and Quality in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)


IBM Global Business Services also named as most recommended consulting organization in the region

IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced today that IBM’s consulting organization, Global Business Services (GBS), was ranked first for Mindshare and Quality and also named the most recommended consulting organization in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2017. This was based on findings in the “Perceptions of Consulting in the GCC in 2017”report by Source Global Research, a leading research and strategy firm for the global management consulting industry.

The report assesses the reputation of consulting firms from a client stand point and reveals the top-ranked organizations in the region on four categories: mindshare, quality, value, and most recommended. The 2017 report evaluates the perception of consulting firms in the GCC based on 600 survey responses and bases the ranking on four evaluation criteria: quality, value, recommendation, and attributes. The GCC consists of six Middle Eastern countries—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.

“As the number of consultancy firms continues to rise every day across the globe, it is increasingly difficult for businesses to keep their edge and continue to differentiate themselves from the rest,”says Alison Huntington, Head of Client & Brand Insights, Source Global Research. “Despite such a challenge, IBM continues to remain at the top of clients’minds in this region for its quality and the value it brings to the industry.”

AUC FRESH GRADUATE DINA MESHREF TO REPRESENT AFRICA AT TABLE TENNIS WOMEN'S WORLD CUP



July 24, 2017, Cairo – For the fourth time, Dina Meshref, who graduated last spring from The American University in Cairo (AUC), has become the African Table Tennis Champion, enabling her to move on to the Table Tennis Women's World Cup, scheduled to take place in Canada this October. “It was very important for me to win this title in order to qualify for the World Cup,” Meshref said. “It was a huge challenge because of the many good competitors, particularly my teammates from Egypt and the Nigerian players.”

Meshref recently graduated this spring with a bachelor’s in business administration and earned the Omar Mohsen Athletic Achievement Cup for successfully representing AUC in national and international tournaments. She participated in the women’s singles tournament at the International Table Tennis Federation Africa Cup, held in Agadir, Morocco this June.

The Table Tennis Women's World Cup, among the world’s most prestigious events, invites the top 16 players according to global rankings to compete, in addition to four continental champions. Meshref will be representing Africa at the event as one of the continental champions who qualify to participate. “If I’m able to win any match there, it will help improve my international ranking, since I’ll be competing against players who are ranked much higher than me,” said Meshref. “One of my dreams is to win a medal at the World Cup. It’s difficult, but it’s possible, so I set this as my target each time I qualify.”

As the daughter of two table tennis champions, Meshref was naturally drawn to the sport. She would often accompany her father to the table tennis hall at El Ahly Club when he served as head of the table tennis team. Prompted by coaches to try table tennis herself, she eventually discovered a passion for it and began playing at a young age.

In addition to earning titles as an internationally known professional table tennis player, Meshref maintained a good academic standing at AUC. “It was tough to manage my time, moving between academics and playing professionally. I had to balance class with long practice hours,” she reflected. In the past, Meshref made it to the top 16 slots at the world cup. She hopes that this year she can make it to the top eight.

People have shared moments like weddings and vacations with their friends, and publishers and creators have immersed audiences in unique experiences, like going behind the scenes at a sports team's warmup or on stage with a band during a show.

Today we're excited to announce some updates that improve and simplify the Live 360 experience for both creators and audiences.

Live 360 Ready Program

First, we're excited to launch the Live 360 Ready Program — an array of third-party 360 cameras and software solutions, vetted by our team, that provide great Live 360 experiences on Facebook. Today, the Live 360 Ready Program includes 11 cameras and 7 software suites that span a wide range of options, whether you simply want to go live via your phone to share personal moments, or you're a professional publisher who needs robust camera and software solutions to pull off a complex production.

Each camera's app or web experience will enable you to interact with your friends and followers through direct access to Facebook's native reactions and comments. You'll be able to recognize Live 360 Ready cameras and software offerings by the Facebook Live logo on their packaging or website. The current list of Live 360 Ready cameras and software includes:

4K Support and Watch in VR

We're now supporting up to 4K resolution for Live 360 streams, meaning viewers can enjoy Live 360 moments in much higher fidelity. And for the first time, viewers will soon be able to enjoy Live 360 videos streamed at 4K in VR. Live 360 broadcasts will available to watch in VR — both while they're happening and after they're over — in our free Facebook 360 app for Gear VR, available on the Oculus Store. We're excited to see all the great moments you share in 4K with Live 360, and how your friends and followers experience these moments in fully immersive VR.

Donate Buttons with Live 360 and Scheduled Live

We're also bringing two popular Facebook Live features to Live 360: donate buttons and Scheduled Live, both of which can be added to broadcasts through our Live API.

With donate buttons, Verified Pages can raise funds for a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit when they stream in Live 360, or a nonprofit can add a donate button to their own Live 360 broadcast to encourage viewers to support their cause.

Scheduling a Facebook Live broadcast lets people know when to tune in and helps your broadcast get off to a strong start with the audience already in place. With Scheduled Live — now available to Live 360 broadcasts via the Live API or our live streaming tools — you can let your followers know the exact date and time your Live 360 broadcast will be. An announcement post will publish to News Feed, enabling your fans to opt in to a one-time reminder notification that will alert them when you're about to go live. We hope this scheduling ability helps you build buzz and anticipation for your Live 360 moments!

Post-Live Experience

To ensure that the great experience of watching Live 360 continues even after you've stopped streaming, we're also adding stabilization to Live 360 for Profiles when our algorithm detects that a broadcast may be a little shaky.

Once you've finished a Live 360 broadcast, you can also use our Guide tool to direct viewers to the most important parts of your broadcast. The tool allows you to set up points of interest throughout your broadcast and auto-direct the field of view to those points of interest. You can access 360 Guide through your 360 Controls tab once you 'Edit' your video. Learn more about Guide here.

To understand the points of greatest interest in your Live 360 broadcast, you may want to refer to Heatmap, our tool to help you understand which parts of your video your audience engaged with the most. You can access Heatmaps (for broadcasts with at least 20,000 unique active viewers) from the Page Insights surface. Learn more about Heatmaps here.

Revenue 
Etisalat UAE Revenues amounted to AED 7.8 billion representing 3% increase comparing to Q1 2017.
Net Profit 
Etisalat UAE net profit amounted to AED 2.2 billion representing 6 % increase year over year and 7 % increase comparing to Q1 2017.
EBITDA 
Etisalat UAE EBITDA for Q2 totalled AED 4.3 billion representing 4% increase quarter over quarter and resulting in EBITDA margin of 55%.
