Cairo, Egypt: 21 June 2017- His Excellency Dr. Hisham Arafat, Minister of Transportation
recently welcomed the senior management team of Careem, the leading
ride-hailing service in the Middle East and North Africa, in his office. The
meeting was attended by Dr. Amr Shaat, assistant to the Minister and Eng. Sayed
Metwally, Head of Transport Regulatory Authority in Greater Cairo, which is responsible
for regulating the ride hailing sector as per the proposed draft law.
The meeting came in a series of meetings held by Careem with the
concerned authorities to discuss the future of ride hailing sector in the
Egyptian market. Careem started the meeting by acclaiming the Minister's
efforts in upgrading this vital sector, which benefits more than one hundred
thousand drivers and one million riders within the framework of legalized ride
hailing services.
Minister of Transportation urged the importance of a comprehensive overview
of transportation ecosystem in Egypt including mass transportation means, as
well as the importance of the cooperation with companies operating in this
sector such as Careem in order to benefit from its vast experience, as it
operates in 12 countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan and Egypt giving
it the chance to gain a unique regional experience.
“Careem strives for expansion in the Egyptian market by introducing its
services across the country aiming to provide a safe, affordable, and reliable
means of transportation,” said Ramy Kato, Head of Careem Egypt Operations &
Vice President of Careem Care. “Careem aims to create more job opportunities as
our network comprises 10 cities in Egypt, including Cairo, Alexandria, Al
Mansoura, Tanta, Damanhur, Hurghada, Zagazig, Banha, Al Mahala, and Kafr Al
Dawar. We also plan to expand in Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, Al Minia,
and Assuit by end of 2017. Since September 2016, Careem managed to merge white
taxi into the Careem network in Greater Cairo followed by other governorates in
order to cover the great demand on transportation services in the Egyptian
market.“

استقبل معالي الدكتور/
هشام عرفات، وزير النقل ممثلي شركة كريم العالمية وقيادات الشركة في مصر خلال لقاء
بمقر الوزارة وذلك بحضور الدكتور/ عمرو شعت، مساعد وزير النقل والمهندس/ السيد
متولي، رئيس جهاز تنظيم النقل في القاهرة الكبرى حيث يتولى جهاز تنظيم النقل
التابع لوزارة النقل سلطة تنظيم هذا القطاع وفقاً لمشروع قانون النقل التشاركي
الجاري دراسته.
يأتي ذلك في إطار سلسلة
من الاجتماعات التي تقوم بها شركة كريم مع الجهات المعنية لبحث مستقبل قطاع النقل
التشاركي في السوق المصري. حيث أستهلت شركة كريم اللقاء بتقديم الشكر والتقدير
لمعالي الوزير وفريق العمل في وزارة النقل على الاهتمام بهذا القطاع الهام والذى
يستفيد منه ما يزيد عن مائة ألف سائق حر ومليون راكب من خلال خدمات النقل التشاركي
المقننة.
كما وجه معالي وزير
النقل الى ضرورة النظر الى منظومة النقل بصورة شاملة بما فيها وسائل النقل الجماعي
وغيرها وأهمية مشاركة الشركات العاملة في هذا المجال مثل كريم للإستفادة من خبراتها
حيث يمتد نشاط كريم الى اثني عشر دولة منها السعودية والأمارات وباكستان ومصر مما خلق لديها خبرة إقليمية فريدة.
