Premier investment firm achieves dual leadership in Dubai’s two financial markets

Menacorp has been ranked the number one securities brokerage firm in Dubai for the full year 2016 in terms of trade value and market share, according to official data published by the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and the Nasdaq Dubai. The investment firm topped 49 competing companies to take the highest position on the DFM and posted an impressive 60.51 % market share for equity futures trading on Nasdaq Dubai, becoming the undisputed leader on this newly launched market.

Menacorp has maintained its leading position on the DFM in continuation since 2013. The company is at the helm of the UAE’s main exchange for the fourth consecutive year. By also being the leading player on Nasdaq Dubai equity future market, Menacorp has established itself as the main securities brokerage firm in Dubai and as a major actor of the Middle East and North Africa financial (MENA) sector.

TÜV Rheinland awarded ADGAS Certificate of Recognition

• Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company Limited confers certificate of excellence to TÜV Rheinland Middle East for asset integrity services provided in 2015

A client’s award - TÜV Rheinland Middle East recently received a certificate of recognition for their consistent engineering support and excellent customer service during 2015. ADGAS Senior Executive and Vice President of Supply Chain Management, Alawi Saleh, signed the certificate expressing their gratitude. TÜV Rheinland Middle East’s involvement with ADGAS primarily focuses on maintaining plant integrity, creating base line inspection data and certifying all lifting appliances on Das Island.

A subsidiary of the ADNOC group operating on Das Island, ADGAS is a respected name on the list of international TÜV Rheinland oil and gas clients. TÜV Rheinland Middle East has provided ADGAS with high-level services for plant integrity over the past years, in addition to the inspection and certification of all Das Island lifting equipment and appliances. In March 2016, TÜV Rheinland supervised and co-executed a major turnaround project conducting in-service inspections on various industrial assets such as boilers, pressurized equipment, distillation columns, heat exchangers and piping systems for LNG trains. The company’s experts also provided mechanical integrity assessment during a major shutdown. More than 120 engineers, inspectors and non-destructive testing (NDT) specialists oversaw the entire management and execution of NDT activities including supervision, inspection and validation.

TÜV Rheinland is proud of these achievements and considers this prestigious award a testament to its commitment to provide high-quality performance and excellent safety records. الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 3 يناير،2017: يستضيف الحدث العالمي "القمة العالمية لطاقة المستقبل"، المقام في العاصمة الإماراتية أبوظبي وفداً رفيع المستوى من اللجنة المنظمة لمعرض "إكسبو أستانا2017"، ويضم الوفد مجموعة من كبار الشخصيات ورئيس جمهورية كازاخستان.

Scrapping New Year’s resolutions could leave you happier and healthier London Business School behavioural expert talks ‘fresh start’ delusion

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 3 January 2017 – A quarter of New Year’s resolutions will be broken in the first week of January, estimates suggest. But according to an organisational behaviour expert from London Business School, scrapping your resolution could be the start to a happier and healthier New Year.

Madan Pillutla, Professor of Organisational Behaviour, London Business School, explains why: “The intriguingly named ‘what the hell effect’, refers to our tendency to over indulge when we overstep a self-set limit.  

“By making resolutions, we impose limits on ourselves. If these limits are very strict (for example I will go to the gym five times a week), and we fail them (it is Wednesday already, and I have not gone to the gym), we are likely to over indulge. We think the week is shot anyway (so I will not go at all this week and I resolve to make a fresh start on Sunday).”

The ‘what the hell effect’ is strongest when we make resolutions which are a tall order, Professor Pillutla warns. These resolutions are the most dangerous for three reasons. First, we are more likely to over-indulge as we inevitably over-step, over-ambitious, self-set limits. Second, we are likely to take longer to get back on the wagon, waiting until next week or next month. Third, we are far more likely to give up entirely, because we consider it a failure if we have not stuck to these strict limits from day one. We quickly conclude that the whole year is shot!

“Compare this to a person who has no such resolutions”, says Professor Pillutla.

“Not having been to the gym by the middle of the week might act as a strong motivator to go now.  Ironically, the New Year resolution of going to the gym five times a week leads to worse outcomes than if we had never made the resolution in the first place.”

In spite of the high failure rate, a surprising 60% of us will make exactly the same resolution next year, when the vast majority of us will fail again.

“We are generally overly optimistic about our ability to meet goals, and also do not learn from past failures. This means that we are more likely to make grand, rather than realistic resolutions”, Professor Pillutla says.  

If you want to make and keep a resolution, Professor Pillutla urges you to examine your failures for situational and personality barriers, set realistic goals and make resolutions that are not difficult to keep on a day to day basis.

“But”, he says, “Beware the delusionary promise of the ‘fresh start’. Remember that not making a resolution might lead to a healthier and happier life than making one that can lead to the ‘what the hell effect’.”
