Ooredoo Achieves Major 5G Breakthrough for Qatar National Day

Successful 5G Test Positions Qatar as One of the Only Nations in the World to Have 5G Trial System

Doha, Qatar

Ooredoo has successfully conducted tests on one of the first-ever 5G trial systems, positioning Qatar as one of the only countries in the world – and the first in the GCC region – to achieve this incredible technical milestone.

Thanks to an ongoing partnership with technology leaders Huawei and Nokia, Ooredoo has successfully demonstrated 5G capabilities on the Ooredoo Supernet within Ooredoo’s 5G laboratory, completing trials for speed and latency, and achieving incredible speeds of up to 35.46 GB per second – which would make it the fastest mobile data service in the world today.

Ooredoo’s success in trialling 5G technology provides the first regional example of the potential and performance of the upcoming fifth-generation wireless broadband technology, which is based upon the emerging standards.

The company has also promised to demonstrate the power of this new 5G technology with Nokia in the coming days, including a demonstration of next-generation virtual reality and robotic applications.

In addition, the results from Ooredoo’s trials will be shared with global partners, to contribute to the international agreements on standards and spectrum that will be necessary to support the global launch of 5G services. Ooredoo’s trial results will also help the development of 5G-ready equipment and devices.

أجرت Ooredoo بنجاح اختبارات على أحد أنظمة شبكات الجيل الخامس 5G التجريبية الأولى من نوعها، والتي تجعل قطر إحدى أوائل الدول في العالم وأول دولة في منطقة الخليج تحقق هذا الإنجاز التكنولوجي الرائع.

وكانت Ooredoo قد أجرت، بالتعاون مع شركة هواوي ونوكيا، اختبارات ناجحة تمكنت خلالها من تجربة تقنيات الجيل الخامس "5G" عبر شبكتها سوبرنت في مختبر الشركة الخاص بتقنيات الجيل الخامس، لتكمل من خلالها الشركة تجارب متعلقة بالسرعة ومعدل التأخير، محققة سرعة فائقة وصلت إلى 35.46 غيغابت بالثانية، ما يجعلها خدمة بيانات الجوال الأسرع في العالم حتى الآن.

CMA Rolls Out Regional Train the Trainer Workshop Series

Dubai, United Arab Emirates December 8, 2016-(ME NewsWire)- IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) is organizing an advanced training series in Bahrain this month. “Train the Trainer” is designed to empower CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) instructors in the region on the latest finance industry advancements and training techniques.

LBS survey reveals incubating national talent crucial for sustainable diversification

‘T- economy’ of tourism, trade and technology to reduce region’s reliance on oil

Dubai, UAE, 09 December 2016 – Greater co-operation between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is needed to help spur on economic diversification, according to a survey of regional business executives by London Business School. The majority of people surveyed (86%) would like to see increased collaboration between states, policy makers and enforcers in order to achieve the aims of national strategies.

Andrew Scott, Professor of Economics, London Business School, says: “It is encouraging to see that in the face of real threats to globalisation the Middle East remains committed to greater integration. Given these global threats it is all the more important that the region coordinates its efforts to make this part of the world as attractive and as vibrant as possible.”

Efforts in this direction already seem to be afoot. HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s Minister of State and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Group CEO, has recently called on GCC petrochemical producers to explore avenues for collaboration to capitalise on market access, in order to become a global industry powerhouse. The GCC petrochemicals industry has been growing at over 10 per cent every year since 2000.

Following the significant fall in oil prices in 2014, Middle Eastern economies are focusing on diversification with renewed vigour. Traditional oil-based economies could soon be replaced by the ‘T- economy’: tourism, trade and technology, the survey indicates.

More than half of respondents (57%) believe that tourism will become the leading industry spearheading economic diversification in the Middle East. Trade, transport and logistics ranked a close second (55%), while technology ranked third (46%).

The region’s business executives are equally clear about the main challenges facing the region when it comes to diversification. More than a third of those surveyed (36%) view a dominant public sector as the main barrier to diversification, over and above other issues such as complex processes to set up growth projects (29%) the existing quality of education and vocational training (29%), access to direct lending and credit (24%) and current allocation of oil revenues (20%).

The survey results support that human capital is one of the main contributors to the economic progress of a country - 77% of those surveyed agreed that incubating national talent contributes to economic diversification strategies in the Middle East.

“Crucial for economic development is strong education, and those with education working in productive and innovative sectors,” says Professor Scott. “The need for skilled workers has become all the more important in the face of globalisation and developing technology. With Artificial Intelligence widely seen as about to usher in a Fourth Industrial Revolution, the need for knowledge workers is set to become even more important.”

Nationalisation, or the policy of bringing more citizens into the workplace, forms part of the vision of all GCC countries. Substantial efforts are being undertaken by governments in the region to equip and nurture local talent, in order to facilitate sustainable economic growth.

The survey shows support for Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) is important for economic diversification. More than two-thirds of the business executives surveyed (68%) agree that the SME sector will help GCC countries to achieve their wider strategic aims of diversity, innovation, employment and leadership.

“SMEs and starts-ups are crucial for innovation. Incumbent firms tend to be important in terms of investment, but developing new ideas and finding new ways of working come heavily from smaller firms and new start-ups,” says Professor Scott. “A healthy start-up culture promotes innovation across an economy.”

More than 200 members of the London Business School community, including alumni, Executive Education past participants, Executive MBAs based in Dubai and the School’s Middle East Club, participated in the survey. London Business School’s Dubai Centre has been offering the international education and development to the region’s business leaders for the last ten years.

Increase in outsourced FM to boost industry growth

UAE FM market to expand at CAGR of 8.51 per cent between 2016 and 2021

December 12, 2016 – Outsourcing in facilities management (FM) is continuously gaining a wider traction thanks to the growing trend among businesses across sectors to reduce their overheads, while spurring their productivity, protecting their margins, and leveraging niche expertise. According to the projection of Frost & Sullivan, the global outsourced FM industry will be worth USD 1 trillion by 2025. Out of this total revenue, other studies state that the share of bundled and integrated services is forecasted to hit an impressive 35-per cent mark. The popularity of outsourced FM comes as no surprise as FM support typically lessens costs by up to 20 percent.

Over the years, the GCC region has exhibited a notable increase in demand for outsourced FM operations, thus further cultivating the regional market’s growth and expansion. This was recently pointed out by Imdaad, a leading provider of integrated facilities management solutions in the GCC, backed by a survey conducted by the British Institute of Facilities Management on the Middle East’s FM market. The survey results showed that 36 per cent of the respondents would be solely outsourcing their FM services, while a considerable 60 per cent expect more outsourcing of FM operations in the time to come.

Jamal Abdullah Lootah, CEO, Imdaad, said: “The public sector has lent its support to several developments that reflect its commitment to promote innovation and sustainability, and has thus cultivated stronger ties with the private sector. In fact, the UAE Government announced in February that most government tasks would be outsourced to the private sector – providing a major boost to regional and multinational service providers such as Imdaad. In the UAE, the FM industry is expected to climb at a compound annual growth rate of 8.51 per cent between 2016 and 2021 due to the strong public-private partnerships in the country. The growth will be largely driven by massive projects developed in support of the country’s National Agenda set in the UAE Vision 2021. As such the projects under Abu Dhabi’s emirate-wide Vision 2030 and Dubai’s Urban Development Master Plan 2020 are particularly immense and are set to further fuel and enhance the local economies.

In modern times, the FM market has evolved from an in-house service to a booming industry that is expected to reach USD 394 billion by 2017, per a market research report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. In a report entitled The Future of Facility Management, released this July, it was noted that integrated facilities management (IFM) is so far the fastest growing segment.

وشهدت دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي نمواً ملحوظاً في الطلب على خدمات التعهيد الخارجي في مجال إدارة المرافق، بما أسهم إلى حد كبير في دفع عجلة نمو وتوسّع السوق الإقليمية على مدار السنوات الأخيرة. ويتّضح ذلك في دراسة حديثة أجراها "المعهد البريطاني لإدارة المرافق" بدعم من "إمداد"، الشركة الرائدة في مجال توفير الحلول المتكاملة لإدارة المرافق في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، حول قطاع إدارة المرافق في منطقة الشرق الأوسط والتي بيّنت أن 36 بالمائة من المشاركين في الدراسة يفضّلون الاستعانة بمصادر خارجية لإدارة مرافقهم، في حين يتوقّع 60 بالمائة ممّن شملتهم الدراسة أن يرتفع الطلب على خدمات التعهيد الخارجي في عمليات إدارة المرافق خلال الفترة القادمة.

وتعليقاً على الأمر، قال جمال عبدالله لوتاه، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة "إمداد": "لا يتوانى القطاع الحكومي في تقديم الدعم الكامل للعديد من المشاريع والشركات التي تشاركه الرؤية والهدف في نشر ثقافة الابتكار والاستدامة على امتداد القطاعات والمجالات المختلفة، الأمر الذي أثمر عن بناء شراكات وطيدة بين القطاعين العام والخاص. ولعل خير مثال على ذلك إعلان حكومة الإمارات في أوائل العام الجاري عن خارطة طريق لتعهيد معظم خدمات الحكومة إلى القطاع الخاص، في دفعة قوية للارتقاء بأعمال مزوّدي الخدمات الإقليميين والعالميين مثل "إمداد". ونحن على ثقة تامة بأن هذه المبادرة ستعود بالمنفعة الكبيرة على مستوى دفع عجلة نمو القطاع ودعم الجهود الوطنية الرامية إلى تحقيق الأهداف الاستراتيجية طويلة الأمد التي تصبو الحكومة إلى تحقيقها".

وعلى صعيد دولة الإمارات تحديداً، من المتوقّع أن يسجّل قطاع إدارة المرافق قفزةً كبيرةً بمعدّل نمو سنوي مركّب بنسبة 8.51 بالمائة خلال الفترة بين عامي 2016 و2021، مدعوماً بالشراكات المتينة التي تجمع بين القطاعين العام والخاص في الدولة ومحفظة المشاريع الضخمة قيد التنفيذ في الوقت الراهن والمنضوية تحت مظلة "رؤية أبوظبي 2030" و"خطة دبي الحضرية 2020" وصولاً إلى مستهدفات الأجندة الوطنية لرؤية الإمارات 2021 الرامية إلى دفع عجلة نمو الاقتصادات المحلية.

وتأتي هذه التقديرات الإيجابية امتداداً للنقلة النوعية التي شهدها قطاع إدارة المرافق خلال السنوات الماضية من مجرد قطاع داخلي ثانوي إلى واحد من أهم القطاعات الحيوية المتوقّع أن يسجّل 394 مليار دولار أمريكي بحلول العام القادم بحسب تقرير حديث صادر عن مؤسّسة "جلوبال إندستري أناليستس"، في حين تؤكّد دراسة أخرى بعنوان "مستقبل إدارة المرافق" أن قطاع إدارة المرافق المتكاملة يعد من القطاعات الأسرع نمواً في الوقت  الراهن.
