NAPCO reaches out to 200 underprivileged children through Dar Al Atta’a’s charity initiative

الشركة الوطنية لمنتجات الألمنيوم تدعم 200 طفل محتاج من خلال مبادرة جمعية دار العطاء الخيرية

New partnership signals major boost for UAE medical education

United Arab Emirates, October 7, 2015 – The University of Salford, UK, is set to work more closely with Gulf Medical University (GMU) following the signing of a new partnership agreement between the two institutions.

The new relationship will see the two universities focus on knowledge transfer and staff and student exchanges in the area of Genomic Diagnostics. The University of Salford has vast expertise in the field with a long history of research and diagnostic development at the University’s Biomedical Research Centre based in the UK. This expertise stretches to human genetics, such as mutation screening in patient with cancer and genetic tracing of microorganisms.

GMU is recognised as a centre of excellence for medical education in the region, specialising in areas such as clinical pathology, toxicology and more general areas of public health. GMU’s primary focus is around enhancing its provision in medical education, healthcare and research. As well as its academic programs, like Salford, GMU is also at the forefront of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

University of Salford Vice Chancellor, Professor Helen Marshall, said: “Like Salford, Gulf Medical University is a regional leader in medical and healthcare education. This latest partnership will help build on Salford’s reputation in the region and enhance its history of working with educational and medical partners in the UAE and wider Middle-East.  

“Medical education and research at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as professional development in the area, are seen as one of the key drivers in Abu Dhabi’s quest to become a knowledge-based economy and the University of Salford is privileged to be a part of that.”

Salford has invested £3.5million in new laboratories in its School of Environment and Life Sciences, which offers state-of-the-art facilities including the latest audio-visual teaching aids. As well as supporting teaching and research in biology and health, these laboratories also support wildlife conservation, geography and the environment.

Dr Athar Aziz from Salford’s Biomedical Research Centre, said: “With our joint expertise and collaboration we will study the next generation of diagnostics and prognostics in the patients of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Such collaborative efforts will enhance the understanding of disease patterns across the region and will also provide training in the latest genetic diagnostic tools for the staff and students of GMU.”

One of the key aspects of the partnership will see graduate students and academic staff from GMU visit Salford for up to six months to be trained at the Biomedical Research Centre. This will allow students and practitioners from GMU to learn UK best practice and take this knowledge and skills back to the specialist Genomic Diagnostics Centre at GMU.

The University of Salford will also help GMU write and develop its curriculum for Masters’ Programmes such as Clinical Pathology, whilst PhD students and faculty will have the opportunity to study and work at both the Salford and GMU campuses. There will also be a faculty exchange programmes that will focus on providing interdisciplinary support for undergraduate and postgraduate education as well as cutting-edge research.

The healthcare and medical sectors, including the teaching and professional development aspects, are major areas of growth in the region. The University of Salford already has several working relationships in the region including its work with Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Here the University works across a range of disciplines at the hospital including diabetic treatment, which is a huge problem in the Middle East.

"جامعة سالفورد" توقع إتفاقية شراكة إستراتيجية مع "جامعة الخليج الطبيّة"

7 أكتوبر 2015 - دخلت "جامعة سالفورد" مؤخّراً في اتفاقية شراكة استراتيجية مع "جامعة الخليج الطبية"، سيتم بموجبها تعزيز وتفعيل أواصر العمل المشترك بين الطرفين على مستوى نقل المعرفة والخبرات وتبادل أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية والطلبة المتخصّصين في مجال التشخيص الجينومي. وتأتي هذه الخطوة في سياق مساعي "جامعة سالفورد" لمشاركة خبرتها الواسعة في علم الوراثة البشرية، بما في ذلك فحص الطفرات الجينية لمرضى السرطان والتتبّع الجيني للكائنات الحية الدقيقية، بالإضافة إلى مشاركة تاريخها الحافل في مجالات البحث والتطوير عبر مركز البحوث الطبية البيولوجية التابع للجامعة في المملكة المتّحدة.

وكانت "جامعة سالفورد" قد استثمرت مبلغ 3.5 مليون جنيه إسترليني في إنشاء مختبرات  جديدة لكلية علوم الحياة والبيئة في الجامعة والتي تهدف من خلالها إلى توفير مرافق متطوّرة تضم أحدث الوسائل التعليمية السمعية والبصرية. ومن شأن هذه المختبرات أن تساعد في تحسين آليات التعليم والأبحاث في علم الأحياء والصحّة، وبالتالي المساهمة في الحفاظ على الحياة البرية والمعالم الجغرافية والبيئة.

وأوضح الدكتور أطهر عزيز من مركز البحوث الطبية البيولوجية في "جامعة سالفورد": "نتطلّع من خلال هذا التعاون المشترك مع "جامعة الخليج الطبية" إلى دراسة الجيل الجديد من التشخيصات وهندسة التكهّنات في دولة الإمارات. وستسهم هذه الجهود المتضافرة في تعزيز فهم أنماط الأمراض في جميع أنحاء المنطقة، ومنح أعضاء  الهيئة التدريسية والطلبة في "جامعة الخليج الطبية" المزيد من فرص التدريب على أحدث أدوات تشخيص الأمراض الوراثية لأعضاء".

وفي إطار اتّفاقية الشراكة الجديدة، سيقوم وفد من طلبة الدراسات العليا وأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية في "جامعة الخليج الطبية" بزيارة تصل مدّتها إلى 6 أشهر إلى "جامعة سالفورد" وذلك للحصول على تدريب شامل في مركز البحوث الطبية البيولوجية التابع للجامعة، بما سيتيح لهم الفرصة للتعرّف على أفضل الممارسات الطبيّة المتّبعة في المملكة المتّحدة ونقل هذه المعرفة والمهارات إلى مركز التشخيصات الجينومية المتخصّص في "جامعة الخليج الطبية".

Al Muhaisnah Health Center hosts health awareness campaign for men

Initiative shares information on common ailments such as prostate cancer, infertility, impotence, climacteric syndrome & urinary tract stones

UAE, October 7, 2015 – The Training and Development Committee of the Dubai Healthcare City’s (DHA) Al Muhaisnah Health Center, in cooperation with Bayer, recently organized a health awareness campaign on the sidelines of International Men’s Day on October 7, 2015. The drive was aimed at informing people, especially men, about various health issues and diseases such as prostate cancer, inflammation, infertility, impotence, climacteric syndrome, and urinary tract stones.

“The health awareness initiative demonstrates the Ministry of Health’s commitment to primary healthcare which will contribute in achieving the goals of the UAE’s visionary government to offer comprehensive and optimal healthcare services for its citizens and residents to develop a society of healthy individuals. In addition, the DHA reinforces its dedication towards Dubai’s people by launching a very important initiative that urges men to take complete care of their health and reproductive behavior to strengthen their role in the family and society. Aside from raising awareness about men’s general well-being, the campaign also sheds lights on the importance of the early detection of reproductive problems and the hazards of unhealthy lifestyles that may affect them,” concluded Dr. Maryam Ahmed Shaker, Director, Al Muhaisnah Health Center.

The health awareness campaign included lectures by Dr. Mohammad Kamel Al Jumaily, an Urologist and Andrologist from Al Baraha Hospital in Dubai. During his address, Dr. Al Jumaily said that awareness among patients can help prevent the onset and spread of common illnesses such as the inflammation of prostate glands, kidney diseases, the formation of urinary tract stones, as well as diabetes-related impairments. He also elaborated on the shock wave technique for treating blood vessels which helps required blood reach the male reproductive system and introduced the concept of climacteric syndrome in men.

The Men’s Healthcare Clinic in Al Muhaisnah Health Center aims to encourage men to have a healthy reproductive culture, enabling them to fulfill their functions to support their social and familial roles. The clinic caters to men aged between 20 and 70.

Dubai Healthcare City strives to achieve several objectives, including increasing awareness among men about their health and early detection of reproductive disorders. In addition, it also helps in the early diagnosis of factors such as high cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes along with stopping the smoking habit that can lead to fatal diseases. Moreover, DHA has a well-established database of common diseases of men and takes measures to prevent them.

الإمارات، 7 أكتوبر 2015 - نظمت لجنة التدريب والتطوير بمركز المحيصنة الصحي بمنطقة دبي الطبية فعالية التوعية الصحية تزامناً مع يوم صحة الرجل الذي يصادف اليوم (الأربعاء 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2015)، وذلك بالتعاون مع شركة "باير". وتناولت الحملة التثقيفية صحة وأمراض غدة البروستات، مثل سرطان والتهاب البروستات، والعقم والضعف الجنسي وأمراض الذكورة وسن اليأس عند الرجال وحصى المسالك البولية.

وتضمنت الفعالية محاضرات للدكتور محمد كامل الجميلي، أخصائي المسالك البولية وأمراض الذكورة. وسلطت المحاضرات الضوء على مواضيع تثقيفية للمرضى والمراجعين والمدعوين، مثل كيفية الوقاية من الأمراض الشائعة كالتهاب البروستات، وتضخم البروستات الحميد والخبيث، وكيفية المحافظة على صحة البروستات، وأمراض الكلى وتأثير مرض السكري على وظائف الكلى وكيفية المحافظة عليها، وتقنية الموجات الصادمة في علاج الأوعية الدموية لضمان وصول الكميات المطلوبة من الدم للجهاز الذكري

والأشخاص المستفيدين منه، وأمراض حصى المسالك البولية وكيفية الوقاية منها، إضافة إلى التعريف بمفهوم سن اليأس عند الرجال.

Contract signing to build and deliver three 21.3 M Aluminum Crew Boats for INW

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – October 07, 2015 (ME NewsWire)-- On the 9th September 2015, Grandweld Shipyards accomplished a significant milestone by signing a contract with International Naval Works to design, build and deliver three 21.3 M Aluminum Crew Boats. The 21.3 M vessels will be powered by 2 high speed marine diesel engines; each driving fixed pitch propellers through a reverse-reduction gearbox to produce a speed in excess of 21knots.

The vessels will be used for offshore transportation purposes and incorporates seating capacity for 18 offshore personnel with excellent seakeeping characteristics giving the personnel on board the vessel good comfort during transportation. Delivery of the three vessels will be in early 2016.

توقيع عقود لبناء وتسليم ثلاث سفن دعم سريع ذات الـ21.3 متراً من الألومنيوم لصالح الشركة الدولية البحرية

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة - 7 أكتوبر 2015(ميدل ايست نيوز واير): حققت شركة "جراندويلد"، في 9 سبتمبر 2015، إنجازاً مهماً بتوقيع عقد مع "الشركة الدولية البحرية"، لبناء وتسليم ثلاث سفن دعم سريع ذات الـ21.3 متراً من الألومنيوم. وسيتم تزويد هذه المراكب ذات الـ21.3 متراً بمحركين بحريين عاليي السرعة يعملان بواسطة الديزل، كل محرك مراوح  مثبت من خلال علبة التروس للحد من الاتجاه المعاكس لإنتاج سرعة تزيد على 21 عقدة.

وسيتم استخدام المراكب لأغراض النقل قبالة السواحل وستتضمن مقاعد لـ18 موظفاً يعملون قبالة السواحل، مع مواصفات لتحمل الظروف البحرية القاسية لتوفير الراحة للموظفين على متن القارب خلال فترة الانتقال. وسيكون موعد تسليم السفن الثلاث في مطلع عام 2016.
