Avaya and HP to Deliver Expanded Communications Services to the Enterprise




Companies to sell a combined portfolio of unified communications, contact center as a service,
and infrastructure modernization services

HP to assume service delivery of a significant portion of Avaya Private Cloud Services


Dubai, UAEAvaya and HP (NYSE: HPQ) Enterprise Services (ES) today announced a multi-year agreement to offer cloud-based unified communications and contact center technology, and management solutions for enterprises.

Together, the companies will sell a combined portfolio of Unified Communications-as-a-Service, Contact Center-as-a-Service, and infrastructure modernization services. Combining HP’s expertise in services delivery with Avaya’s strong unified communications and contact center portfolio will create one of the most advanced solutions in the industry, including mobile applications, software, and networking for unified communications and customer experience management. These as-a-Service solutions will be delivered with the same standard of care that puts Avaya services above industry benchmarks1 with the added benefit of HP’s industry leading cloud capabilities.

The Avaya-HP agreement addresses growing global demand for comprehensive, secure, reliable business collaboration solutions, delivered as a service. HP ES will resell the as-a-Service offerings and in parallel, Avaya has the benefit of increased scale enabled by HP’s highly flexible deployment models to quickly reach more customers and help simplify and transform business communications. Avaya will also apply its market leading communication and collaboration products to help HP improve the efficiency and performance of its contact center operations.

As part of the agreement, the HP ES Business Process Services organization will assume service delivery of a significant portion of Avaya Private Cloud Services2 (APCS), including a limited transfer of APCS employees and contractors to HP ES. These services will be integrated into HP ES’s existing Mobility and Workplace and Business Process Services practices and partner eco-systems to deliver private and hybrid cloud-based unified communications and contact center solutions to existing and future customers. Sales contracts, service level agreements, and overall client experience will remain with Avaya. HP ES will augment and amplify APCS by extending services to more customers, in more markets, with the speed and service performance needed to help grow demand for cloud-based solutions.

This agreement marks another major step in Avaya’s transformation to a software and services company. HP Helion solutions will become a cornerstone of Avaya’s cloud offerings deployed in HP’s global infrastructure.

(NYSE: VMW) today announced interoperability between F5’s BIG-IQ® management platform and the VMware NSX network virtualization platform for rapid orchestration of layer 2–7 network and application services in the software-defined data center (SDDC). Today’s announcement focuses on enabling customers to combine the VMware NSX platform’s network service automation with F5’s application delivery service management. This marks the latest in a series of collaborative efforts between the companies to bring compelling IT benefits to their mutual data center customers.

Typically, provisioning services for new applications—or changing parameters no matter how slightly for deployed applications—is a long, manual process. With a combined F5 and VMware solution, customers will be able to leverage the full suite of BIG-IP® services directly from within the NSX Manager as part of the normal virtual machine deployment process, enabling them to reduce provisioning time from days to minutes.

The F5 and VMware NSX technologies interoperate with management plane-level REST-based APIs that are used by F5 BIG-IP to register and deploy application services that can be consumed by F5 users in their software-defined data center. The NSX traffic steering capability enables traffic to be redirected to the F5 service. This combination allows F5 iApps® to be leveraged by NSX, and to be consumed as vendor templates that F5 customers can instantiate with application-specific parameters.

With F5 and VMware products, customers will be able to automate the deployment of policy-driven services for multi-tiered applications in their software-defined data center. The solution will be able to be deployed non-disruptively, enabling customers to leverage BIG-IP and BIG-IQ features in NSX virtual environments. Users will also be able to continue to use their custom iApps templates through native F5 interfaces.

New Product Helps Sunbathers Find Tranquility

Raft-Tan allows sunbathers to relax while floating on the water, and its creator seeks crowdfunding to make his idea a reality. 
BORDEAUX, FRANCE—Tanning on a beach can be peaceful, but other people enjoying the beach can get in the way and overcrowd. The inventor of the Raft-Tan has solved the problem of enjoying the sun without dealing with intrusions of fellow beachgoers, and he has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $150,000 by September 24 to help finish the prototype and bring the product to market.
Raft-Tan provides a unique way for sunbathers to enjoy the beach – by distancing themselves from the crowd. Raft-Tan is a flat top boat with enough room for two sunbathers to float safely anchored in the sand near the shore. “The gentle waves pleasantly cradle the sunbather while they are distanced from the craziness of the beach crowd,” said Raft-Tan creator Patrice Deumie. “Rather than compete for a spot on the sand, you can create your own island.”
Unlike an inflatable mattress, which is not anchored and can quickly float miles away from shore, the Raft-Tan securely anchors in the sand. It also features a rigid floating platform, which is unlike an air mattress that is likely to capsize while the sunbather changes positions. The Raft-Tan can be used alone or has enough space to float two people.
In order to get the Raft-Tan to the market, its creator has launched a crowdfunding campaign to create and test a prototype and then produce the product. Supporters of the crowdfunding campaign will receive perks for their support. Those contributing $199 will receive a 50 percent discount on a single-sized Raft-Tan. Contributors giving $750 will have their name or company logo engraved on the first series of Raft-Tan. Those giving $2,500 will receive a double-sized Raft-Tan.
In addition to the special pricing available through the crowdfunding campaign, contributors can also enter to win a free double-sized Raft-Tan. “For every 50 people who donate $100 to our campaign, we will choose one winner to receive a free Raft-Tan,” said Deumie. “The winners will each receive an email from us after the campaign has ended to discuss customizing their free Raft-Tans.”
