New York, USA – 24 September 2025 - The Presidency of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16), held by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, emphasized the importance of strengthening international efforts to protect land and mitigate the impacts of drought during its participation in a number of international events held alongside the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
From 23 to 25 September, the COP16 Presidency is hosting a series of international events and activities aimed at advancing multilateral cooperation to confront global environmental challenges. These include a high-level session on enhancing coordination at COP 30 to direct agricultural investments toward sustainable land management and achieving land degradation neutrality, and a special session on rangeland degradation, “Carrying Momentum from COP16 Riyadh to COP17 Mongolia.” Other events include the session “Empowering Communities, Securing the Future: Financing Food Systems,” and the Business4Land Forum under the theme “From Commitment to Action,” which focuses on boosting private sector engagement in land, nature, and climate issues.
The COP16 Presidency is also organizing a special event on drought, bringing together the Presidents of the three Rio Conventions: the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This gathering reflects the importance of integration and joint cooperation among the Conventions to advance the global environmental agenda and to strengthen programs and financing mechanisms that benefit both people and nature.
This participation demonstrates the COP16 Presidency’s commitment to continuing to lead international dialogue on critical environmental issues, foremost among them land restoration and strengthening global capacity to confront drought challenges, by building effective partnerships and stimulating cooperation among all stakeholders.

رئاسة (COP16) تستعرض الجهود الدولية لحماية الأراضي ومواجهة الجفاف على هامش الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة
نيويورك، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية – 24 سبتمبر 2025 -أكدت رئاسة الدورة السادسة عشرة لمؤتمر الأطراف لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر (UNCCD COP16)، التي تتولاها المملكة العربية السعودية، على أهمية تعزيز الجهود الدولية لحماية الأراضي والحد من آثار الجفاف، وذلك خلال مشاركة الوفد الممثل لرئاسة COP16 في عدد من الفعاليات الدولية المنعقدة بالتزامن مع اجتماعات الدورة الثمانين للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.
وخلال الفترة من 23 إلى 25 سبتمبر، تستضيف رئاسة (COP16) سلسلة من الفعاليات والأنشطة الدولية التي تهدف إلى دفع التعاون متعدد الأطراف في مواجهة التحديات البيئية العالمية. وتشمل هذه الفعاليات جلسة رفيعة المستوى حول تعزيز التنسيق لمؤتمر الأطراف الثلاثين (COP30) بشأن توجيه الاستثمارات الزراعية لتعزيز الادارة المستدامة للأراضي الزراعية والوصول إلى صفر تدهور للأراضي الزراعية، وجلسة خاصة عن الحد من تدهور أراضي المراعي: "استمرار الزخم من COP16 في الرياض إلى COP17 في منغوليا"، إضافة إلى جلسة "تمكين المجتمعات وتأمين المستقبل: تمويل أنظمة الغذاء”. كما يشهد الحدث تنظيم منتدى “الأعمال من أجل الأرض” (Business4Land) تحت عنوان “من الالتزام إلى العمل”، الذي يركز على تعزيز مشاركة القطاع الخاص في قضايا الأراضي والطبيعة والمناخ.
كما تنظم رئاسة (COP16) فعالية خاصة بقضايا الجفاف تجمع رؤساء مؤتمرات الأطراف لاتفاقيات ريو الثلاث: اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة الإطارية بشأن تغير المناخ (UNFCCC)، واتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي (CBD)، واتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر (UNCCD). وتعكس هذه الخطوة أهمية التكامل والتعاون المشترك بين هذه الاتفاقيات لدفع الأجندة البيئية العالمية، وتعزيز البرامج والتمويل المشترك بما يحقق الفائدة للإنسان والطبيعة.
وتجسد هذه المشاركة التزام رئاسة (COP16) بمواصلة قيادة الحوار الدولي حول القضايا البيئية الجوهرية، وعلى رأسها استصلاح الأراضي، وتعزيز القدرة العالمية على مواجهة تحديات الجفاف، من خلال بناء شراكات فاعلة وتحفيز التعاون بين مختلف الأطراف.
