HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launches the Saudi Architecture Characters Map to celebrate the Kingdom’s Architectural Heritage
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, March 16, 2025: His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has officially launched the Saudi Architecture Characters Map, featuring 19 distinct architectural styles inspired by the Kingdom’s diverse geographical and cultural characteristics. It highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to celebrating the country’s Architectural Heritage, enhancing quality of life and modernizing the urban landscape in Saudi cities as part of Vision 2030. As Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Saudi Architectural Design Guidelines, HRH Crown Prince emphasized that Saudi Architecture reflects the cultural and geographical diversity of the Kingdom. He further highlighted the importance of sustainable urban planning that harmonizes with the local environment while integrating traditional architectural elements into modern designs. HRH Crown Prince noted: "Saudi Architecture blends our rich heritage with contemporary design thinking. We are enhancing urban landscapes and quality of life as well as building an architectural framework that balances the past and the present. This model will serve as a global source of inspiration for innovation in architectural design." "Saudi Architecture will indirectly contribute to economic growth by making our cities more attractive to visitors and tourists, which will stimulate sectors such as tourism, hospitality and construction. It also envisions a future where our cities and communities thrive." Saudi Architecture aims to enrich the urban architectural diversity of the Kingdom, elevate urban landscape in cities and empower local talent. By 2030, it is expected to contribute over SAR 8 billion to the Kingdom’s cumulative GDP and create over 34,000 direct and indirect job opportunities across the engineering, construction and urban development sectors. Designed with flexibility in mind, Saudi Architecture provides developers with guidelines that allow for modern building materials without imposing additional financial burdens. Each of the 19 architectural styles offers three design typographies: traditional, transitional and contemporary – encouraging creative expression while preserving the authenticity of local architecture.
The implementation of Saudi Architecture will unfold in a phased manner. The first phase will focus on Al-Ahsa, Taif, Mecca and Abha, where initial applications will target major projects, government buildings and commercial structures. The Saudi Architecture Characters Map highlights 19 architectural styles inspired by geographical, natural and cultural characteristics, derived from urban and historical studies of building traditions passed down through generations. These styles include Central Najdi, Northern Najdi, Tabuk Coast, Madinah Rural, Inner Madinah, Hejazi Coast, Taif Highlands, Sarawat Mountains, Aseer Escarpment, Tuhama Foothills, Tuhama Coast, Farasan Islands, Abha Highlands, Bisha Desert, Najran, Al Ahsa Oasis, Al Qatif Oasis, East Coast and Eastern Najdi. Efforts to implement Saudi Architecture are driven by partnerships across government agencies, engineering firms and real estate developers. Architectural design studios will support engineers and designers through engineering guidelines, training workshops and skill development programs to ensure the highest standards of sustainability and quality.

سمو ولي العهد يطلق خريطة العمارة السعودية
الرياض 16 مارس 2025: أطلق صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير محمد بن سلمان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود، ولي العهد رئيس مجلس الوزراء – حفظه الله – خريطة العِمَارَة السعودية، التي تشمل 19 طرازًا معماريًا مستوحى من الخصائص الجغرافية والثقافية للمملكة، وذلك في إطار جهوده – حفظه الله – للاحتفاء بالإرث العمراني وتعزيز جودة الحياة وتطوير المشهد الحضري في المدن السعودية، بما يتماشى مع مستهدفات رؤية السعودية 2030.
وأكد سمو ولي العهد، رئيس اللجنة العليا للموجهات التصميمية للعمارة السعودية -حفظه الله- أن العِمَارَة السعودية تعكس تنوع المملكة الثقافي والجغرافي، مشيرًا إلى أن ذلك يأتي ضمن مساعي المملكة في تطوير مدن حضرية مستدامة تتناغم مع الطبيعة المحلية، وتوظف الطراز المعماري التقليدي بأساليب حديثة. وقال سموه: "تمثل العِمَارَة السعودية مزيجًا من الإرث العريق والتصميم المعاصر، حيث نعمل على تحسين المشهد الحضري وتعزيز جودة الحياة، بما يحقق توازنًا بين الماضي والحاضر، ويكون مصدر إلهام عالمي للابتكار في التصميم المعماري".
وأضاف سموه: "تسهم العِمَارَة السعودية في تعزيز التنمية الاقتصادية غير المباشرة من خلال زيادة جاذبية المدن، مما يعزز من زيادة أعداد الزوار والسياح، ويدعم نمو القطاعات المرتبطة بالسياحة والضيافة والإنشاءات. كما تهدف إلى بناء مستقبل تزدهر فيه مدننا ومجتمعاتنا."
وتهدف العِمَارَة السعودية إلى تعزيز التنوع المعماري للمملكة، ودعم تحسين المشهد العمراني في مدنها، وتمكين القدرات المحلية، ومن المتوقع أن تساهم العِمَارَة السعودية بأكثر من 8 مليارات ريال في الناتج المحلي الإجمالي التراكمي، بالإضافة إلى توفير أكثر من 34 ألف فرصة وظيفية بشكل مباشر وغير مباشر في قطاعات الهندسة والبناء والتطوير العمراني بحلول 2030.
كما تعتمد العِمَارَة السعودية على موجهات تصميمية مرنة تتيح استخدام مواد البناء المحلية دون فرض أعباء مالية إضافية على الملاك أو المطورين، حيث تستند إلى ثلاث أنماط رئيسية هي: التقليدي، والانتقالي، والمعاصر، مما يتيح المجال للتصميم الإبداعي مع الحفاظ على الطراز المعماري الأصيل لكل مدينة ونطاق جغرافي، وسيتم تطبيق الموجهات التصميمية، بدءًا من المشاريع الكبرى والحكومية والمباني التجارية، حيث ستكون المرحلة الأولى في كلٍّ من الأحساء، الطائف، مكة المكرمة، وأبها. وتضم خريطة العِمَارَة السعودية 19 طرازًا معماريًا يعكس كل منها الخصائص الجغرافية والطبيعية والثقافية للمنطقة التي استُلهم منها، دون أن يرتبط ذلك بالتقسيم الإداري للمملكة، إذ تم تحديد كل طراز بناءً على الدراسات العمرانية والتاريخية التي تعكس أنماط البناء المتوارثة عبر الأجيال، وهي: العِمَارَة النجدية، العِمَارَة النجدية الشمالية، عِمَارَة ساحل تبوك، عِمَارَة المدينة المنورة، عِمَارَة ريف المدينة المنورة، العِمَارَة الحجازية الساحلية، عِمَارَة الطائف، عِمَارَة جبال السروات، عِمَارَة أصدار عسير، عِمَارَة سفوح تهامة، عِمَارَة ساحل تهامة، عِمَارَة مرتفعات أبها، عِمَارَة جزر فرسان، عِمَارَة بيشة الصحراوية، عِمَارَة نجران، عِمَارَة واحات الأحساء، عِمَارَة القطيف، عِمَارَة الساحل الشرقي، العِمَارَة النجدية الشرقية. وتتكامل جهود تطبيق العِمَارَة السعودية عبر الشراكة بين الجهات الحكومية، والمكاتب الهندسية، والمطورين العقاريين، حيث ستوفر استوديوهات التصميم الهندسي الدعم اللازم للمهندسين والمصممين لضمان تحقيق أعلى معايير الجودة والاستدامة، مع توفير الإرشادات الهندسية والورش التدريبية لتأهيل الكفاءات المحلية. |
