Dodoma, Tanzania; Dubai, UAE, 07 February 2023- Blue Carbon, the UAE-based entity and the Government of Tanzania, through Tanzanian Forest Services Agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, marking the start of a collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable forest management practices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The remarkable moment took place during the visit of Blue Carbon team to Tanzania, where the Chairman of Blue Carbon, Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, a member of the Dubai Royal Family, met with Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of Republic of Tanzania.
The partnership will focus on supporting the government's efforts to conserve, manage and register its forest resources of 8 million hectares in the first phase including 56,000 hectares of mangroves and sell these credits under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This will strengthen the partnership between the two countries in developing new carbon offset projects to support decarbonization targets.
Commenting on the visit, Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, the Founder and the Chairman of Blue Carbon said, “We are honored to sign this MoU with the Government of Tanzania. This collaboration represents an important step towards promoting sustainable forest management practices and fighting the climate change.”
The government of Tanzania recognizes the importance of preserving its forest resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and this collaboration with Blue Carbon will help to achieve these goals. The partnership will also provide opportunities for local communities to participate in carbon offset projects, thereby promoting sustainable economic growth and improving livelihoods.
The signing of the MoU is a clear demonstration of Blue Carbon's commitment to promoting nature-based solutions to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change as well as demonstration the company’s efforts to transit to low carbon development.
Blue Carbon is a Dubai based company under the vision of Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, a member of the Dubai Royal Family. The company was formed to create environmental assets, nature-based solutions and register carbon removal projects under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. دودوما، تنزانيا; دبي، الامارات العربية المتحدة، 7 فبراير 2023– وقعَّت شركة "بلو كربون"، ومقرها دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، مذكرة تفاهم مع حكومة تنزانيا ممثلة بـ "وكالة خدمات الغابات التنزانية" التابعة لوزارة الموارد الطبيعية والسياحة. وتعتبر المذكرة بداية تعاون بين الطرفين يهدف إلى تعزيز ممارسات الإدارة المستدامة للغابات وخفض انبعاثات غازات الاحتباس الحراري.
وتمّ التوقيع على مذكرة التفاهم خلال زيارة فريق شركة "بلو كربون" إلى دولة تنزانيا، حيث التقى رئيس مجلس إدارة "بلو كربون" الشيخ أحمد دلموك آل مكتوم بفخامة سامية صولحو حسن، رئيسة جمهورية تنزانيا.
وستركز الشراكة على دعم الجهود الحكومية لحماية وإدارة وتسجيل موارد غابات بالغة 8 مليون هكتار في مرحلة أولى تشمل 56,000 هكتار من غابات أشجار القرم (المانغروف) وبيع هذه الأرصدة بموجب المادة (6) من اتفاق باريس. وسيساعد ذلك على تعزيز الشراكة بين البلدين في تطوير مشاريع جديدة لدعم أهداف إزالة الكربون.
وفي تعليقه على الزيارة، قال الشيخ أحمد دلموك آل مكتوم، مؤسس ورئيس مجلس إدارة "بلو كربون": "يشرفنا أن نوقع مذكرة التفاهم مع حكومة تنزانيا. ويمثل هذا التعاون خطوة هامة في تعزيز ممارسات الإدارة المستدامة للغابات وبالتالي مجابهة قضايا التغير المناخي".
وتدرك حكومة تنزانيا أهمية الحفاظ على موارد الغابات والحد من انبعاثات غازات الاحتباس الحراري، وسوف يساعد التعاون مع "بلو كربون" على تحقيق هذه الأهداف. كما ستوفر الشراكة فرص للمجتمعات المحلية في مشاريع تعويض الكربون، وبالتالي تعزيز النمو الاقتصادي المستدام وتحسين سبل العيش.
وتمثل مذكرة التفاهم الموقعة بين "بلو كربون" وحكومة تنزانيا دليلاً واضحاً على التزام "بلو كربون" بتعزيز حلول قائمة على الطبيعة لتخفيف تأثير تغيرات المناخ، كما يعكس جهود الشركة في الانتقال إلى اقتصادات منخفضة الكربون.
يُذكَر أن "بلو كربون" شركة مقرها دبي، تأسست وفقاً لرؤية الشيخ أحمد دلموك آل مكتوم، لإنشاء أصول بيئية، وتطوير حلول قائمة على الطبيعة لتعزيز مشاريع تخفيض الكربون بموجب المادة 6 من اتفاقية باريس للمناخ 2015. وتعمل "بلو كربون" على دعم تمكين الأطر التشغيلية للاقتصاد الأزرق والأخضر، والتي تستخدم الحلول القائمة على الطبيعة في إزالة الكربون بتبني أحدث التقنيات ومبادئ الاقتصاد الأخضر.
