AUC TO HOST THE LAUNCH OF THE EGYPTIAN MIGRATION HUB


WHAT 

The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRC) at The American University in Cairo (AUC) is launching the Egyptian Migration Hub (EHUB) in cooperation with the European Union Delegation. The hub aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders, including academics, practitioners, government officials, UN agencies, NGOs, researchers and policymakers, to share their experiences, build confidence, and form a common baseline of understanding of the context and available policy options in regard to migration. The activities of the EHUB will vary from holding meetings to online workshops, in-person training, media training, podcasts on migration and policy briefs. 


The launch will be attended by representatives from UNHCR Egypt, GIZ Migration Unit, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Manpower, Plan International, Save the Children, International Labor Organization (ILO), Maat for Peace and Development, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Fard Foundation, Saint Andrew's Refugee Services, Red Cross, Red Crescent, Care International, several embassies and others.

Speakers of the launch event are Ambassador Ehab Badway, assistant minister of multilateral affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Neveen El-Husseiny, deputy assistant foreign minister for multilateral affairs; Laurent De Boeck, chief of mission, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt;  Eric Oechslin, country director, ILO; Ayman Zohry, president, Egyptian Migration Society; Ambassador Christian Berger, European Union Delegation to Egypt; Johannes Luchner, deputy director-general, DG HOME and Ibrahim Awad, professor of public policy and director of CMRS, AUC.
