Ranked one of the best international academies in maritime education, the Academy witnesses huge turnout from students wishing to enter the maritime field, thanks to its distinguished reputation
Sharjah, UAE, 29 June 2021: In line with its role as the best Arab house of expertise and the first choice for students wishing to enter the maritime field, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport Branch in Sharjah (AASTS) has opened admission for the first semester of the 2021/22 academic year. Registration is open for holders of high school certificate or equivalent. Currently, AASTS offers two disciplines; a Bachelor of Marine Engineering Technology + a 3rd Engineer Certificate of Competency, and a Bachelor of Maritime Transport Technology + 2nd Mate Certificate of Competency in Shipping and Port Operations and Offshore service technology. Both disciplines qualify graduates to work on board commercial vessels.
The Academy, which opened its doors two years ago, has attracted a large number of male and female students in the maritime sector. Students are from various nationalities, notably, the UAE, Egypt, Oman, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, and Iran.
AASTS has played a vital role in reinforcing maritime education and training in the GCC region and the Middle East as a whole. The Academy has been a flagbearer in terms of infusing Emirati talent into the workforce, fulfilling its mission to prepare and equip young talents in the UAE. This supports the vision of the wise leadership to enhance the UAE’s position as a leading global maritime hub.
H.E Prof Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, said: “We have been impressed by the exceptional turnout to join the Academy since its inauguration, despite the fact that the Sharjah branch is less than two years old. However, the Academy’s long-standing reputation and the status of the maritime sector in the hearts of Emiratis, have created a great interest among students to consider the Academy as the preferred option for their higher education. At the Academy, we realise that the educational process is not limited to textbooks and the academic curricula. That’s why, we are keen to strengthen the leadership capabilities of our students to expand their horizons, and to employ the new capabilities made available by modern educational tools. Thus, we add new capabilities to our academic performance, and provide added value to our students to motivate them to be more creative and think outside the box.”

Jobs opportunities for the Academy graduates are not limited to onboard ships. They can work in administrative positions in shipping, ship management and logistics companies, as well as in research and development and training.

يشهد التسجيل إقبالًا كبيرًا من الطلاب الراغبين في دخول المجال البحري، لما تمتاز به الأكاديمية من سمعة مرموقة باعتبارها واحدة من بين أفضل الأكاديميات عالمياً في مجال التعليم البحري
الشارقة، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، ٢٩ يونيو ٢٠٢١: تكريساً لدورها كأفضل بيت خبرة عربي، وباعتبارها الخيار الأول للطلاب الراغبين في دخول المجال البحري إقليمياً، أعلنت الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري فرع الشارقة عن فتح باب التسجيل لخريجي الثانوية العامة وما يعادلها من شهادات في الفصل الأول للعام الدراسي 22-21، وتتيح الأكاديمية حاليًا التسجيل في تخصصين دراسيين، هما تكنولوجيا الهندسة البحرية مع شهادة مهندس ثالث، وتكنولوجيا النقل البحري مع شهادة ضابط ثان ملاحة في مجال الشحن وعمليات الموانئ أو تكنولوجيا خدمات الحقول البحرية. ويؤهل كلا التخصصين الطلاب للعمل على متن السفن التجارية.
وقد افتتحت الأكاديمية أبوابها للتسجيل منذ عامين؛ حيث نجحت في استقطاب عدد كبير من الطلاب والطالبات الراغبين في دخول القطاع البحري، ومن جنسيات عدة أهمها الطلاب من مواطني دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، وجمهورية مصر العربية وعمان وسوريا واليمن وباكستان بالإضافة إلى إيران.
وتلعب الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري فرع الشارقة دوراً أساساً في تعزيز التعليم والتدريب البحري في منطقة الخليج العربي والشرق الأوسط ككل، من خلال الفرص الأكاديمية الفريدة التي توفرها في ضوء رسالتها لإعداد وتأهيل القدرات والكفاءات الشابة في دولة الإمارات؛ حيث ترفد السوق الإماراتي بالكفاءات الوطنية المتميزة؛ انسجاماً مع رؤية القيادة الرشيدة لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في تعزيز مكانة الدولة كمركز بحري رائد على مستوى العالم.
وبهذه المناسبة أفاد الدكتور إسماعيل عبد الغفار إسماعيل فرج، رئيس الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري، قائلاً: "لقد أبهرنا الإقبال الاستثنائي على الالتحاق بالأكاديمية منذ الافتتاح؛ على الرغم من حداثة عمر فرع الشارقة الذي لم يتجاوز العامين، ولكن السمعة العريقة للأكاديمية عموماً، وكذلك المكانة التي يحتلها القطاع البحري في وجدان أبناء الإمارات، خلقت اهتماماً كبيراً لدى الطلاب لاعتبار الأكاديمية خياراً مفضلاً لهم لاستئناف تعليمهم الأكاديمي. وقد أدركنا في الأكاديمية أن العملية التعليمية لا تشمل فقط حصر معلومات الطلاب بين دفتي الكتب والمناهج التعليمية. من أجل ذلك، نحرص على تعزيز الفكر القيادي لدى طلابنا لتوسيع آفاقهم، وتوظيف القدرات الجديدة التي تفتحها أدوات التعليم الحديثة، لنضيف إمكانات جديدة لأدائنا الأكاديمي، ونوفر قيمة مضافة للطلاب لتحفيزهم على تحقيق المزيد من الإبداع والتفكير خارج الصندوق."
وأضاف: "تمثل القدرات والإمكانات التي يمتلكها فرع الأكاديمية بالشارقة فرصاً بلا حدود أمام الطلبة الباحثين عن تجربة تعليمية تضمن لهم التخرج والعمل في تخصصات مطلوبة في القطاع البحري مقارنة مع باقي التخصصات الأخرى، ونعتبر أننا نفتح فرصاً كبيرة إذ ترتكز طبيعة التعليم في القطاع البحري على المزاوجة في كافة المراحل والسنوات الدراسية بين التدريس الأكاديمية والمزاولة التطبيقية العملية كما أننا نقدم مزايا لامحدودة عبر أدوات التعليم عن بعد والتواصل الافتراضي، وتتيح هذه الأدوات لطلابنا قدرات تعلّم غير مسبوقة".
مستقبل مهني واعد
من جهته، قال الربان الدكتور أحمد يوسف، نائب عميد كلية النقل البحري والتكنولوجيا لدى الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري فرع الشارقة: "تولي القيادة الرشيدة لدولة الإمارات أهمية كبرى للتعليم والتدريب رفيع المستوى. وباعتبارها واحدة من المؤسسات البحرية الرائدة في المنطقة، تأخذ الأكاديمية على عاتقها إعداد جيل يتولى قيادة القطاع البحري في المستقبل. ولتحقيق هذا الهدف، نحرص على تطوير تقنيات التدريس باستمرار من خلال تبني التكنولوجيا الحديثة، ورفع وعي طلابنا بأهمية التحول الرقمي، لمواكبة التغيرات المتسارعة التي يشهدها العالم كل يوم. وإضافة إلى الاهتمام بالمنهج الأكاديمي، نولي أهمية كبرى لصحة طلابنا البدنية والنفسية."
وأضاف يوسف: "تشهد الصناعة البحرية طلبًا كبيرًا على خريجي تكنولوجيا النقل البحري والهندسة البحرية، لاسيما من مواطني دولة الإمارات، إذ يستطيع خرّيجوا الأكاديمية العمل في العديد من المؤسسات والوظائف النوعية، كالقوات البحرية، مؤسسات القطاع والعام، وأجهزة الشرطة بمختلف إمارات الدولة. كما تحتاج شركات البترول التي تمتلك حقولًا بحرية إلى خبرات خريجينا، وكذلك شركات الشحن وإدارة السفن وهيئات التصنيف الدولية والمحلية، والعديد من المؤسسات والشركات المعنية بالقطاع البحري. وباختصار، فإن فرص العمل التي يحصل عليها خرّيجونا لا حدود لها."
ولا تقتصر الوظائف التي يمكن أن يعمل بها خريجوا الأكاديمية على متن السفن، بل يمكنهم العمل في الوظائف الإدارية والمكتبية في شركات الشحن وإدارة السفن والخدمات اللوجستية، وكذلك في مجال البحث العلمي والتطوير وقطاع التدريب.
حياة طلابية مميزة
من أجل تحفيز الطلاب على تحقيق المزيد من التحصيل العلمي، توفر الأكاديمية بيئة مثالية للحياة الطلابية، عبر أفضل المرافق والتجهيزات الأكاديمية والطلابية. ويتوافر في الأكاديمية سكن داخلي للطلاب والطالبات كل على حدة، مجهز بأفضل المرافق الترفيهية تحت إشراف فريق محترف من الموظفين لضمان أعلى درجات الراحة والأمان للطلاب، كما تحتوي الأكاديمية على مرافق رياضية متكاملة ومسابح للتدريب والمحافظة على اللياقة البدنية، ويعتبر الحفاظ على نمط الحياة الصحي من أهم الممارسات التي تشجع الأكاديمية طلابها على اتباعها.
جدير بالذكر أن الأكاديمية تضم أكبر نسبة من الطالبات مقارنة مع غيرها من الأكاديميات البحرية، إذ تبلغ 40٪ من إجمالي عدد الطلبة الملتحقين بالأكاديمية، ما يؤكد مدى الالتزام بتمكين المرأة في القطاع البحري. وتحرص الأكاديمية على ربط طلابها بقيادات الصناعة البحرية المحلية والإقليمية، وتنظيم المشاركات الميدانية والافتراضية في جميع الفعاليات البحرية التجارية والمهنية، وتستضيف كبار الخبراء للحديث مع الطلاب وتعريفهم بفرص العمل في القطاع البحري.
