ACWA Power and NOMAC launch a new company “NMES” to provide advanced maintenance solutions for power and water plants in the Middle East

UAE, Dubai, 3 November 2019: ACWA Power, a Saudi leader in the sectors of water desalination and conventional and renewable power generation worldwide, and its Operations and Maintenance arm, The First National Operation & Maintenance Co. (NOMAC), are expanding and fortifying their presence in the power and water market through a newly established entity - NOMAC Maintenance Energy Services (NMES). The newly formed NMES specializes in deploying and providing technologically advanced maintenance solutions for power generation and water desalination plants. The launch of NMES is in line with ACWA Power and NOMAC’s expansion and growth plan within these two sectors in the region.

NMES will benefit from and feed on the in-depth knowledge derived from ACWA Power and NOMAC’s expertise in operating and maintaining energy and water desalination plants in the region.

The launch took place at NMES’ new facility in Dubai, in the presence of over 200 stakeholders attending on behalf of KSA and UAE utility companies. These included: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA); Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA); and the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA). Senior executives from ACWA Power, NOMAC, and representatives of the newly established NMES company also attended the event.

Commenting on the launch of NMES, Eng. Thamer Al Sharhan, Chairman of NOMAC and Managing Director at ACWA Power, said: “We are extremely proud to launch NOMAC Maintenance Energy Services (NMES), as it serves as an extension of ACWA Power and NOMAC’s leadership in the region with regards to the power generation and water desalination sectors as well as the maintenance and operations sphere. This accomplishment is not only a testament of our local and international expertise in power generation and water desalination, it also evidently showcases our knowledge in operating and maintaining large scale projects at the highest levels of efficiency and quality.

The launch of the new company comes within ACWA Power and NOMAC’s commitment to supplying the water and power market with robust human and technical capabilities that meet the requirements of companies operating in these sectors, as well as facilitating the implementation of their ambitious plans. It will also play a key role in bringing governmental sustainability visions and plans to reality.”

NMES will provide power and water desalination players across the Middle East with cutting-edge, cost-efficient technology solutions for the maintenance of plant machinery and equipment. The services provided by NMES will allow leading plants in the United Arab Emirates, Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to significantly reduce overheads and downtime due to machinery breakdown and technical issues. NMES’s high-quality solutions will effectively lower costs for providing desalinated water and power – successfully contributing to increasing the affordability of both resources.

During the launch event, NMES experts demonstrated its extensive capabilities that included 3D scanning and modelling; online testing and calibration services; and maintenance of turbine rotators.

“NMES offers world-class services to plants, effectively supporting the power & water, oil & gas and mining industries. As testament to our strong offering, NMES partnered with Siemens to manage one of the world’s largest outages for F class gas turbines. In line with our vision, we strive to provide the highest level of services and technologies at competitive rates, which enables our assets to optimize their maintenance expenditure and helps ACWA Power and NOMAC bid more effectively for future projects”, said NOMAC VP of Field Services & NMES Business Leader, Mr. Harald Schmit.

NMES will elevate value in countries that ACWA Power and NOMAC operate in through expert trainings, creation of job opportunities and upskilling of local talent in line with the companies’ commitment to bolster sustainable socio-economic prosperity.

With the unveiling of its new machinery and services hub, NMES intends to secure its regional market position in the UAE and increase its market share internationally. NMES will also explore opportunities in renewable energy - a vital growth area for countries in the region.
