AUC to Host Visions Cairo Short Film Festival




WHAT

The American University in Cairo (AUC) will host Visions Cairo short film festival, an annual non-profit cultural and artistic film festival organized and supervised by an academic committee appointed by the Film Program, department of the Arts at AUC. The main goal of the festival is to contribute to the development and the enriching of film culture in Cairo and in Egypt in general. It will include the screening of films that depict and reflect the hopes and concerns of marginalized segments of Egyptian society including the poor, youth, and women. The festival, builds on the experience of the cinematic activity created by the Film Department at AUC in 2015, and provides young Egyptian filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their films within the highest technical and artistic abilities, allowing them to be discussed and viewed by a large audience that includes their colleagues within the filmmaking field.

A number of awards will be presented during the festival including an appreciation award for the first place winner, as well as best director award and best cinematography award. Members of the judges’ panel are Mais Darwazah, director; Nagy Fawzi, director, cinematographer and professor of film critic at the Higher Institute of Art Criticism; Salma Mubarak, professor of literature, arts and comparative literature in the Department of French Language at the Cairo University; Ahmed Nour, screenwriter and independent filmmaker and renowned cinematographer Said El Shiemy.
