For the Fourth Time.. Mashrou El Saada Visits Nubia, Colouring People’s lives with Happiness

Cario, Egypt: 07 February 2018 - Mashrou El Saada, an NGO that uses colour therapy to brighten up the lives of the less fortunate, is back from their project in Nubia which took place from the 25th till the 29th of January 2018. This marks the end of the 4th Phase in Nubia, where the team painted 7 houses and built a kids area on the island for more than 350+ children, using recycled materials to give them a proper environment to grow and to use this space to conduct workshops for the kids.

Heisa Island is one of the last remaining unique islands in Nubia that were affected by the flood after building the high dam. Three years ago, Heisa was seen to be a neglected island, colourless and spiritless, despite the fact that the Nubian culture is known for its colourfulness, which is the main motive that pushed Mashrou El Saada’s team to take on this one of a kind project.

Commenting on the initiative, Hashem Raafat, Founder of Mashrou El Saada said, “I am immensely proud of our matchless team, a very diverse group constructed of talented individuals; some of which are students, fresh graduates and others who have their day jobs, but they all choose to volunteer each year for 5 days on this revival mission. To date, we were able to successfully paint 31 houses, introduce projects and workshops that contributes to the island’s ecosystem and increase the local tourism turnout to the island.”

One of the objectives of Mashrou El Saada in this project was to support the native women of Heisa. This was done through holding a three days brass workshop, where they were able to learn how to make handmade jewellery, aiding them with their productivity and helping diversify their sources of income.

Inspired by the great nature of Nubia, Mashrou El Saada was enthusiastic to revive the island and add colour to the lives of its people, restoring its touristic glory and empowering its people through colour therapy.
