Award recognizes Bee’ah’s commitment to adopting sustainable
business practices and facilitating the pursuit of a circular economy in the
UAE

28, 2017: Bee’ah’s
pioneering approach to waste management, and its drive to create the Middle
East’s first circular economy, have helped it secure the inaugural MEED ‘Sustainable
Business of the Year’ award. The award was presented at a glittering ceremony
hosted by MEED, at the Conrad Hotel, in Dubai.
Founded in London back in 1957, Dubai-based
MEED is the leading business publication covering the Gulf region, and has used
its 60-year anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate the incredible progress
made by the GCC over the past six decades. It has done so by inaugurating a
series of awards which celebrate the contribution made by businesses and
individuals, to the transformation of the region from one of huge, but untapped,
potential to the economic success story and global powerhouse that it has
become today.
The illustrious panel of judges, consisting of
local and international business leaders, were unanimous in their opinion that
Bee’ah made a compelling case for being seen as the region’s leading
sustainable business, based on stringent judging criteria.
In winning the award, Bee’ah was able to
demonstrate the successful adoption of its sustainability mission, providing
evidence of positive local impacts on society, the environment and the economy.
Its submission to the judging panel provided further evidence of how Bee’ah has
improved customer perception, staff engagement, commercial performance and
environmental stewardship. Bee’ah was also able to provide ample evidence of
how its achievements in the field of sustainability have had a positive effect
on its financial performance.
Speaking after receiving the award, Khaled Al
Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee'ah said, “Over the past ten years, Bee’ah has
worked relentless to execute a sustainable model of business, which encourages
holistic environmental management, while contributing to the growth of the
national economy. We have devised innovative strategies that have not only
enabled us to meet our goals for sustainability, but also set an example for
many others for follow, as the UAE transitions to a model of sustainable
national development. We are honoured and delighted to be the first recipient
of MEED’s Sustainable Business of the Year award. Awards like these certify our
commitment to the vision that inspired our company. They also motivate us to
lead this journey towards a sustainable future that ensures a better quality of life for the
people of today, and of those to follow. ”
Bee’ah is currently making progress
towards enabling Sharjah to become the first zero-waste-to-landfill city in the
Middle East, thanks to its work on changing public attitudes towards waste, as
well as through the adoption of cutting edge waste-to-energy conversion
technology.
The MEED
judges were impressed by both the scope and scale of Bee’ah’s commitment to
sustainability, a commitment that uses smart technology such as solar-powered
smart bins which encourage the responsible disposal of waste by providing free
Wi-Fi to users, but which also uses more traditional educational methods to convey
important messages about recycling. This twin track approach of employing the
latest waste management technology while educating the public about the bigger
environmental picture has proved a hugely successful strategy for Bee’ah over
the past 10 years, a fact that was not lost on the distinguished panel of MEED
judges who made the award.

الجائزة تأتي تقديراً لالتزام "بيئة" في
تبني ممارسات أعمال مستدامة ودعم المساعي لتحقيق اقتصاد دائري في الإمارات

نوفمبر 2017: تقديراً للنهج الرائد الذي تعمل من
خلاله "بيئة" في إدارة النفايات ومساعيها الرامية إلى إنشاء أول اقتصاد
دائري في الشرق الأوسط،
تم منحها جائزة "الأعمال المستدامة للعام" التي أطلقتها مؤسسة
"ميد" العالمية. واستلمت "بيئة" الجائزة خلال حفل مرموق أقامته
"ميد" في فندق كونراد في دبي.
وتقوم مؤسسة ميد العالمية في دبي، التي تأسست في لندن
في عام 1957، بإصدار مجلة أعمال رائدة تغطي منطقة الخليج. واحتفلت المؤسسة بمرور
60 عاماً على تأسيسها بالتقدم الهائل الذي حققته دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي على مدى
العقود الستة الماضية. وترجمت ذلك عملياً بإطلاقها سلسلة من الجوائز التي تحتفل بمساهمة
الشركات والأفراد الذين نجحوا في استغلال الفرص وتحويلها إلى قصص نجاح جعلت من هذه
المنطقة قوة اقتصادية عالمية اليوم.
وقد أجمعت لجنة تحكيم مؤلفة من قادة أعمال محليين
ودوليين، استندوا في تحكيمهم على معايير صارمة لاختيار "بيئة" للفوز
بهذه الجائزة، لا سيما بعد ما قدمته من نموذج أعمال مقنع جعلها واحدة من مؤسسات
الأعمال المستدامة الرائدة في المنطقة.
وقد أثبت فوز "بيئة" في هذه الجائزة قدرتها
على التبني الناجح لمهمتها في الاستدامة، وهذا ما انعكس على إحداث تأثيرات محلية إيجابية
على المجتمع والبيئة والاقتصاد ككل. كما أن مقترح التوصية الذي تم تقديمه إلى لجنة
التحكيم يعتبر بمثابة دليل إضافي على الطريقة التي حققتها "بيئة" في
تحسين إدراك العملاء، ومشاركة الموظفين، والأداء التجاري، والإشراف البيئي. كما
تمكنت "بيئة" من تقديم أدلة عملية على ما حققته الشركة من إنجازات في
مجال الاستدامة تركت أثراً إيجابياً على أدائها المالي.
وفي معرض تعليقه على هذه الجائزة، قال
خالد الحريمل، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة "بيئة": "على مدى السنوات
العشر الماضية، بذلنا في "بيئة" جهود كبيرة ومتواصلة لتنفيذ نموذج
مستدام للأعمال، مما أسهم بالتأثير الإيجابي المباشر على الإدارة البيئية الشاملة،
مع المساهمة في نمو الاقتصاد الوطني.
كما قمنا بتطوير
استراتيجيات مبتكرة لم تمكننا فقط من تحقيق أهدافنا من أجل الاستدامة، ولكن أيضا
ساعدت في جعلنا مثالاً يحتذى به للكثيرين، في الوقت الذي تنتقل فيه دولة الإمارات
العربية المتحدة إلى نموذج للتنمية الوطنية المستدامة."
وأضاف الحريمل قائلاً: "يشرفنا
ويسعدنا أن نكون أول فائز بجائزة ميد للأعمال المستدامة للعام. إن حصولنا على مثل
هذه الجوائز يثبت التزامنا بالرؤية التي استلهمناها في الشركة. كما أنها تحفزنا
على المضي قدماً في هذه الرحلة نحو مستقبل مستدام يضمن توفير حياة أفضل للجيل
الحالي والأجيال اللاحقة من أمتنا."
وفي الوقت
الحالي تحرز "بيئة" تقدماً نحو تمكين الشارقة من
تحقيق هدفها المنشود بأن تكون أول مدينة تصل فيها نسبة تحويل النفايات من
المكبات إلى 100% في منطقة الشرق الأوسط، وذلك بفضل جهود التوعية التي
تقوم بها من أجل تغيير السلوكيات العامة للتعامل مع النفايات، وكذلك من خلال اعتماد
أحدث التقنيات لتحويل النفايات إلى طاقة.
وقد حظي نطاق العمل
والالتزام الكبير لـ "بيئة" في
الاستدامة بتقدير لجنة "ميد"، وهو منهج يستخدم التكنولوجيا الذكية مثل
صناديق ذكية تعمل بالطاقة الشمسية والتي تشجع بدورها على التخلص المسؤول للنفايات
من خلال توفير خدمة الواي فاي مجانية للمستخدمين، إلى جانب استخدامها أساليب
تعليمية أكثر تقليدية لنقل الرسائل الهامة حول إعادة التدوير. وقاد هذا النهج
المزدوج في استخدام أحدث تكنولوجيا لإدارة النفايات ورفع الوعي لدى الجمهور بأهمية
الحفاظ على البيئة إلى نجاح كبير لاستراتيجية "بيئة" على مدى السنوات الـ
10 الماضية، والتي استحقت من خلالها الإشادة من قبل لجنة "ميد" للتحكيم
والفوز بهذه الجائزة.
