The historic Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich is to spend over EURO12 million ($11 million) on a renovation project aimed at attracting more GCC visitors.
The multi award-winning hotel, which marks its 178th anniversary this year, has been conducting roadshows in the UAE, in conjunction with officials from Munich Airport, meeting with UAE government officials and preferred travel trade partners.
Innegrit Volkhardt, owner and General Manager, said: “As we approach a new era in Munich’s reputation as an outstanding destination for international luxury leisure and business travellers, we look forward to working with our GCC trade partners to share the exciting developments we are undertaking here at Bayerischer Hof.”
According to the German National Tourism Board, the Middle East is the fastest growing inbound market for Germany in the world. It is forecast to grow by more than 200% by 2030, increasing visitor numbers to 3.6 million.
“The UAE alone generates as much as 5% of our total room bookings and with projections for a steep increase in the number of luxury leisure and business travellers arriving in Germany from the GCC, the hotel is now preparing to capitalise further still on our popularity,” added Volkhardt.
Already a favourite with celebrities, heads of state, business leaders and luxury tourists, the renovation and modernisation project includes the construction of the ‘Vervoordt Wing’, designed by Belgian art dealer Axel Vervoordt, and the addition of a state-of-the-art penthouse suite, which will occupy the whole of the additional eighth floor, encompassing its very own spa.
“In addition to our 340 rooms, including 65 suites, with the GCC guest in mind we also offer Arabic-speaking guest relations, a prayer room, the Royal Palais Suite and an Arabic chef. We will create a natural balance that blends style and luxury with history and heritage, something we know from experience that GCC visitors admire,” Volkhardt said.
Since 1993, the number of overnight foreign visitors to Germany has increased by 45 million and in 2015, of the 78.1 million visitors to the country, 19.1 million arrived from outside of Europe. The volume of total overnight stays between 2006 and 2015 increased 229%, with a growth of 17.7% specifically between 2014 and 2015. It is forecast 3.6 million overnight stays could be recorded annually by visitors from the GCC by 2030.
Munich is the preferred German destination for travellers from the GCC, with over 591,000 overnight stays recorded in 2015 and an average length of stay of 12 days.
Although a top global destination for business travellers, Germany’s inbound GCC tourism market is dominated by young travellers and leisure guests. According to statistics from the German National Tourist Office, 47% of GCC visitors to Germany are aged 15 to 34 and 50% aged 35 to 54 with 69% of Gulf arrivals in 2014 leisure travellers and 24% visiting on business, spending an average of EURO367 ($394) per day.
Corinna Born, Director International Media Relations, Munich Airport, which celebrates its 25th anniversary on May 17 this year, revealed Dubai is the airport’s busiest intercontinental route with over 740,000 passengers flying between the two cities in 2016. She said: “Our new summer timetable offers 250,000 flights to 238 destinations in 68 countries, while Munich Airport welcomes 78 weekly flights from major Middle East cities, with Emirates alone flying three times a day between Dubai and Munich.
“The involvement of Germany’s most opulent and unique hotels, such as Bayerischer Hof, provides a further attraction for Middle East visitors and we are delighted to be working together to raise the profile of the hotel to our partners in the GCC,” she added.
Munich Airport is the only 5-star airport in Europe and was awarded the title of Best Airport in Europe 2017 for the tenth time in 12 years by London-based Skytrax Institute. Within Europe, the airport serves 173 cities, more destinations than any other European airport.

Owned and operated by the Volkhardt family since 1897, Bayerischer Hof is part of Munich’s history and is an important landmark in the city. It is located on the Promenadeplatz in a stunning building – which was once the largest hotel in Europe –designed by architect Friedrich von Gärtner, under commission from King Ludwig I.

أعلن فندق "بايريشر هوف" العريق في مدينة ميونيخ عن خطته لإنفاق أكثر من 11 مليون دولار على أعمال التجديد بهدف جذب المزيد من الزوار القادمين من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي. وقد نظم هذا الفندق الحائز على جوائز عالمية والذي يحتفل بالذكرى السنوية الـ 178 هذا العام، حملة ترويجية في دولة الإمارات بالتعاون مع مسؤولين من مطار ميونيخ، للاجتماع مع المسؤولين الحكوميين الإماراتيين والشركاء التجاريين من وكالات السفر.
وبهذا السياق قال إنغريت فولخاردت، المالك والمدير العام لفندق "بايريشر هوف": "إننا نشهد حقبة جديدة في تطور مكانة ميونيخ كوجهة متميزة للمسافرين الدوليين في قطاعات الترفيه والتسلية، ونتطلع إلى العمل مع شركائنا التجاريين في منطقة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي لاطلاعهم على التطورات المميزة التي نقوم بها هنا في الفندق".
ووفقاً لبيانات المجلس الوطني الألماني للسياحة، فإن منطقة الشرق الأوسط من أسرع الأسواق المصدرة للسياح إلى ألمانيا على مستوى العالم، ومن المتوقع أن ينمو حجم هذا السوق بنسبة تزيد عن 200٪ بحلول العام 2030، مع زيادة أعداد الزوار إلى 3.6 مليون شخص سنوياً.
وأضافت إنغريت فولخاردت: "يشكل القادمون من دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وحدها ما يصل إلى 5٪ من إجمالي حجوزات الغرف لدينا، مع التوقعات بتسجيل ارتفاع حاد في عدد المسافرين من رجال الأعمال والسياح الذين يصلون إلى ألمانيا من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، ويستعد الفندق الآن للاستفادة من مكانته المميزة".
ويعتبر الفندق وجهة مفضلة لدى المشاهير ورؤساء الدول وقادة الأعمال والسياح من كبار الشخصيات، ويشمل مشروع التجديد والتحديث بناء "جناح فيرفوردت" الذي صممه الفنان البلجيكي أكسيل فيرفوردت، بالإضافة إلى جناح البنتهاوس الفريد من نوعه والذي يشغل الطابق الثامن الإضافي ويشمل سبا خاص به.

وارتفع عدد الزوار الأجانب القادمين إلى ألمانيا بمقدار 45 مليون زائر منذ العام 1993، حيث وصل عدد الزوار إلى 78.1 مليون زائر في عام 2015، بما في ذلك 19.1 مليون زائر من خارج أوروبا. وارتفع عدد ليالي الإقامة بين عامي 2006 و2015 بنسبة 229٪، وبلغت ذروتها بين عامي 2014 و2015 بنسبة نمو قدرها 17.7٪. ومن المتوقع أن يرتفع عدد ليالي الإقامة إلى 3.6 مليون سنوياً للزوار القادمين من قبل دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي بحلول عام 2030.
وتعتبر ميونيخ الوجهة الألمانية المفضلة للمسافرين من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، حيث سجلت 591 ألف إقامة في الفنادق خلال العام 2015، وبلغ متوسط مدة الإقامة حوالي 12 يوماً.
وعلى الرغم من كونها وجهة عالمية رائدة للمسافرين من رجال الأعمال، فإن المسافرين من الشباب والسياح يشكلون أغلبية القادمين من دول الخليج العربي إلى ألمانيا. وتشير إحصائيات المكتب الوطني الألماني للسياحة إلى أن 47٪ من الزوار القادمين من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي إلى ألمانيا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 15 و34 عاماً، و50٪ منهم بين 35 و54 عاماً.
ومن جانبها قالت كورينا بورن، مديرة العلاقات الإعلامية الدولية في مطار ميونيخ، والذي يحتفل بعيده الخامس والعشرين في شهر مايو القادم: "تُعد ألمانيا واحدة من الوجهات الأوروبية المفضلة في منطقة الخليج العربي ونعمل جاهدين لتعزيز مكانتها وعروضها للقادمين. ويتمتع مطار ميونيخ بشبكته الواسعة مع أهم المدن الكبرى في جميع أنحاء أوروبا ويستقبل 78 رحلة أسبوعية من شركات الطيران الكبرى في الشرق الأوسط، حيث تسير طيران الإمارات على سبيل المثال ثلاث مرات يومياً بين دبي وميونيخ".
كما يعد مطار ميونيخ الوحيد الحاصل على تصنيف 5 نجوم في أوروبا، وحصل على لقب أفضل مطار في أوروبا 2017 للمرة العاشرة من قبل "سكاي تراكس".
ويعتبر فندق "بايريشر هوف" الذي تملكه وتشغله عائلة فولخاردت منذ العام 1897، من أهم الوجهات والمعالم التاريخية في مدينة ميونيخ، وصممه المهندس المعماري فريدريش فون غارتنر بطلب من الملك لودفيغ الأول.
