IKEA Unites a Couple under One Roof on Valentine’s Day

Cairo 13 Feb, 2017 - On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, IKEA partnered with Meshwar Organization for Community Development to help unite a couple under one roof. The couple, who has been engaged for two years and struggling to furnish their small apartment, was surprised to see their apartment fully furnished by IKEA as a Valentine’s present.

Ibrahim, who works as a teacher on a temporary contract, is an ambitious young man who has been engaged for more than two years. Due to his limited income and financial family responsibilities, he is unable to furnish his small 90 square meter apartment.

Commenting on the initiative, Adosh Sharma, IKEA Egypt Country Manager said:  “IKEA is always keen to play an active role in the community, as we strongly believe of the importance of creating ‘A better everyday life for as many people’. We are so pleased to be able to extend a hand. Valentine’s is a celebration of love and we have decided to celebrate it with Ibrahim and his fiancé”.

Ghada Farouk, CEO of Meshwar Organization for Community Development, said: “We are pleased that big corporations like IKEA are interested to step-in and support simple honest people who are trying to make a life. Ibrahim has been struggling to make ends meet with his limited salary as he supports his family being the eldest of seven to a sick father who can’t work”.

“This is a dream come true”, said Ibrahim; “We can now set the date to marry and start our own little family. We are both so happy; Valentine’s Day will be the date that we will always celebrate our anniversary. We thank IKEA for being part of our dream and for making it happen”.
