Cisco to leverage technology leadership, innovation and intimate knowledge of local landscape to help Oman accelerate its digitization strategy
Muscat, Oman, January 10, 2017: Cisco Middle East announces the appointment of Waheed Al Hamaid as Country Sales Lead for Oman. In his new role, Waheed will lead Cisco’s business in the Sultanate and work closely with the partner ecosystem to support private and public sector customers in their efforts to digitize and transform their operations to drive business outcomes.

Oman urban centres are on the threshold of evolving into smart cities by utilizing technology to create a new reality. With Cisco predicting more than 212 billion connected objects by 2020, app-centric infrastructure, sensors and mobile devices are going to be the new normal for almost every city in the world, including those in Oman. Translated in economic terms, connecting the unconnected can be as much some $19 trillion, or $4.6 trillion for the public sector, two-thirds of which can be realized by smart cities.
Cisco’s Smart City solutions help city leaders and decision makers address problems of urbanization which could include traffic jams, overcrowding, pollution, resource constraints, inadequate infrastructure and the need for continuing economic growth, using intelligent networking capabilities. The solutions can provide the information and services needed to create more liveable cities, and help them thrive. Today, Cisco’s solutions are deployed in more than 90 Smart City projects around the world, with strong success in metropolitan centres in Europe, like Nice, France and Barcelona, Spain; and the entirely new city of Songdo, South Korea as well as in the Middle East region.

Oman has developed its vision 2040 where logistics and transportation represent the main source of income for the Sultanate after oil and gas. In order to improve the efficiency and high quality services of the logistics and transportation sector, smart technology and fast IT will play an important role which will help foster innovative, real-time communications and collaboration while helping ensure safety and security.
“As we move into an era of complete digitization, where technology begins to connect everything from people, processes and data to things, Oman will need to rethink how it approaches its infrastructure on a grand scale. There is tremendous potential in the country to build effective, competitive and sustainable enterprises through digitization, which will transform citizen services, health, education and safety and security, while improving citizens’ experience and productivity. This will require fostering an innovation, talent and entrepreneurship ecosystem that shift the economy towards greater private sector participation and a more market-based approach,” said Waheed Al Hamaid.

مسقط، سلطنة عُمان، 10 يناير 2017: أعلنت سيسكو الشرق الأوسط عن تعيين وحيد آل حميد مديراً للمبيعات في سلطنة عُمان، ليتولى قيادة أعمال سيسكو في السلطنة ويعمل بالتعاون مع منظومة الشركاء لدعم عملاء القطاع العام والخاص في جهودهم للتحول الرقمي وتحويل عملياتهم بما يعزّز مخرجات الأعمال.

من الجدير بالذكر أن المراكز العمرانية في عُمان تقف على أعتاب التطور والتحول إلى مدن ذكية بالاستفادة من التقنيات التي تمكنها من إيجاد واقع جديد. وفيما تتوقع سيسكو اتصال أكثر من 212 شيء بالإنترنت بحلول العام 2020، فإن البنية التحتية المركّزة على التطبيقات وأنظمة الاستشعار والأجهزة المتحركة ستكون المعيار الجديد والمعتمد في كل مدن العالم تقريباً، بما فيها المدن العمانية. وإذا ترجم ذلك إلى أثر اقتصادي، فإن ربط ما هو غير متصل بالإنترنت عالمياً قد يحقق حوالي 19 تريليون دولار أمريكي، أو 4.6 تريليون دولار للقطاع الحكومي، بحيث يمكن للمدن الذكية أن تقدّم حوالي ثلثي تلك القيمة.
وتساعد حلول سيسكو للمدن الذكية قادة المدن وصانعي القرارات في التعامل مع مشاكل التوسع العمراني التي تتضمن الأزمات المرورية والازدحام والتلوث وإستنفاذ الموارد وعدم ملائمة البنية التحتية والحاجة إلى استمرارية النمو الاقتصادي، وذلك بالاستفادة من إمكانات الشبكات الذكية. يمكن لتلك الحلول توفير المعلومات والخدمات اللازمة لإيجاد مدن أكثر قابلية للحياة ومساعدتها على الازدهار. وتستخدم حلول سيسكو اليوم في أكثر من 90 مشروعاً للمدن الذكية حول العالم، وحققت نجاحاً باهراً في مراكز عمرانية كبرى في أوروبا، ومنها نيس الفرنسية وبرشلونة في إسبانيا، إلى جانب مدينة سونغدو في كوريا الجنوبية ومدن في الشرق الأوسط.
وأضاف وحيد آل حميد: "ساهم التغير التقني في إحداث تحسن هائل على توفير الخدمات العامة، وكانت عمان واحدة من الدول التي تتطلع للانضمام إلى كوكبة الحكومات التي تتبنى الأتمتة والتحول إلى حكومة ذكية. تمتلك سيسكو سجلاً حافلاً بالنجاحات والعمل مع المدن في تلك الرحلة، وتمتلك ما يكفل تحقيق الإمكانات الكاملة للمجتمعات الذكية والمترابطة في حقبة إنترنت الأشياء. فالنجاح يتطلب مقاربة تقوم على شراكة متينة بين القطاعين العام والخاص، تخرج عن حدود مزودي البنية التحتية القائمة للمدن وتشكّل الأساس الذي نتعاون من خلاله مع الحكومة. وستمكننا نماذج الشراكة الجديدة وتجميع الأصول من إيجاد بنية تحتية عامة ومترابطة، تحقق القيمة لكل من القائمين على إدارة المدن والمقيمين فيها وتعزز قابلية الحياة في المدينة."
يشار إلى أن سلطنة عُمان طوّرت رؤيتها للعام 2040، والتي تمثل فيها الخدمات اللوجستية والنقل المصادر الأساسية للدخل بعد النفط والغاز. وبهدف الارتقاء بكفاءة وجودة الخدمات في القطاعين اللوجستي والنقل، ستلعب التقنيات الذكية وتقنية المعلومات السريعة دوراً حيوياً يساهم في تعزيز الابتكار والتواصل الفوري والتعاون فيما تدعم جهود ترسيخ الامن والسلامة.
واختتم وحيد آل حميد حديثه بالقول: "فيما ننتقل إلى حقبة من التحول الرقمي الكامل، تبدأ فيه التقنية بربط كل شيء من الأشخاص والعمليات إلى البيانات والأشياء، ستحتاج السلطنة إلى إعادة التفكير في مقاربتها للبنية التحتية على نطاق ضخم. فهناك إمكانات هائلة في البلاد تدعم بناء المشاريع والشركات التي تتمتع بالفاعلية والتنافسية والإستدامة من خلال التحول الرقمي، والذي ستحدث التحول في خدمات المواطنين والصحة والتعليم والامن والسلامة فيما يحسّن إنتاجية المواطنين وتجربتهم الحياتية. يتطلب الأمر رعاية منظومة من الابتكار والمواهب وريادة الأعمال، تنقل الاقتصاد نحو مزيد من مشاركة القطاع الخاص ومنهج أكثر إعتماداً على الأسواق."
