“Seeds for the Future” - AUC Deputy Chairperson meets Huawei Senior Vice-President in Beijing



Cairo, Egypt. June 28th 2016. An AUC delegation led by the Deputy Chairperson H.E. Erastus Mwencha met with Huawei’s Senior Vice-President Dr. Gong Yuanxing in Beijing to exchange views on methodologies that would further strengthen Africa’s ICT development and industrialisation strategy whilst concretising Huawei’s investment within the Continent. In line with the “Seeds for the Future” programme initiated in January 2015, the two parties also met the second batch of AU ICT trainees currently in China, assessed outcomes and exchanged views on how to improve the programme.
Welcoming the delegation, Vice President Dong highlighted the undeniable fact that “ICT has become a driving force that can significantly boost the socio-economic growth of the African Continent. Huawei is poised to further expand its support towards Africa’s ICT development plans and drive its ICT industrilisation process forward. We are also committed to cultivating ICT talent within the Continent through programmes such as Seeds for the Future”.
H.E. Erastus Mwencha thanked Huawei for their continued commitment to capacity building within the Continent and expressed his appreciation towards the effective collaboration witnessed since the signature of the Memorundum of Understanding in January 2015. Acknowledging the continuous investments undertaken within AU Member States, the Deputy Chairperson appreciated Huawei’s confidence in the African Continent. He further expressed the need to increase research and development cooperation as well as the need to develop concrete industrilisation opportunities that would involve Africa’s youth and allow Africa to take its rightful place in the ICT industry chain in line with Agenda 2063.
With 24 offices throughout Africa and presence in all 54 Member States, Huawei Africa employs 7000 people of which 70% are locally recruited. The Vice President assured the delegation of Huawei’s intentions to drastically boost investment in the Continent in the coming years and highlighted the need to actively involve local partners to ensure sustainability and achieve a win-win situation.
The second batch of ICT trainees selected from various Departments of the AUC to take part in the ongoing two weeks capacity building programme shared their experiences with the delegation. The meeting discussed ways to maximize on this opportunity and ensure effective collaboration between the AU and Huawei in future capacity building activities.

Led by the Deputy Chairperson, the AUC delegation was composed of the Human Resources, Science and Technology HRST ICT Division Head Mr. Moctar Yedali, the African Capacity Building Foundation Executive Secretary Prof. Emmanuel Nnadozie, Ambassador Fantahun Haile Michael and the Directorate of Information and Communications Ag. Director Ms Esther Tankou.

نائب رئيس شركة هواوى يلتقي بنائب رئيس مفوضية الأتحاد الأفريقي

القاهرة، مصر. 28 يونيو 2016. إلتقى وفد من مفوضية الأتحاد الأفريقي برئاسة معالي السيد/ إيراستوس موينتشا نائب رئيس المفوضية بدكتور/ غونغ يوان شينغ نائب رئيس شركة هواوي في بكين لتبادل وجهات النظر حول المنهجيات والسياسات المتعددة التي من شأنها تعزيز تنمية تكنولوجيا المعلومات والأتصالات وإستراتيجية التصنيع في أفريقيا، بالأضافة الى زيادة إستثمارات هواوي داخل القارة. كما إجتمع الطرفان بالدفعة الثانية من متدربين الأتحاد الأفريقي المنتسبين لبرنامج Huawei Seeds for the Future والذى بدأ في يناير 2015 لتقييم النتائج وتبادل وجهات النظر حول كيفية تعظيم الأستفادة من البرنامج.

وخلال كلمته الترحيبية، أكد الدكتور/  غونغ يوان شينغ نائب رئيس شركة هواوي على حقيقة لا يمكن إنكارها وهى "إن تكنولوجيا المعلومات والأتصالات أصبحت القوة الدافعة التي يمكن أن تعزز بشكل كبير من النمو الأجتماعي والأقتصادي في القارة الأفريقية. وتلتزم شركة هواوي بزيادة دعمها نحو خطط التنمية فى قطاع تكنولوجيا المعلومات والأتصالات الأفريقي، ودفع عجلة التصنيع للأمام، بالأضافة الى إلتزامها  بتنمية المواهب الشابة فى مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات والأتصالات داخل القارة الأفريقية من خلال برامج متخصصة مثل Huawei Seeds for the Future " .

كما أثنى معالي السيد/ إيراستوس موينتشا نائب رئيس مفوضية الأتحاد الأفريقي على إلتزام شركة هواوى المستمر لتطوير قدرات المواهب الشابة داخل القارة الأفريقية وأعرب عن تقديره للتعاون الفعال منذ توقيع مذكرة التفاهم في يناير من عام 2015 والذى يدل على ثقة هواوى فى القارة الأفريقية.  ووجه الدكتور/ موينتشا الشكر للدول الأعضاء في الأتحاد الأفريقي على الجهود المبذولة لتطوير قطاع تكنولوجيا المعلومات والأتصالات. وأكد أيضا على الحاجة إلى زيادة البحوث والتعاون الإنمائي، فضلا عن الحاجة إلى تطوير فرص التصنيع والتى من شأنها توفير فرص للشباب والسماح لأفريقيا لتأخذ مكانها الصحيح في صناعة تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات بما يتماشى مع خطة 2063 .

وتتواجد هواوى بقوة فى أفريقيا من خلال 24 مكتباً في جميع أنحاء أفريقيا بالأضافة الى وجودها في جميع الدول الأعضاء الـ 54، وتساهم هواوي فى توفير فرص عمالة لأكثر من 7000 شخص، 70% من القوى العاملة من العمالة المحلية. وأكد نائب رئيس شركة هواوى عن خطة هواوى لزيادة جذرية لفرص الأستثمار في القارة الأفريقية في السنوات المقبلة، وسلط الضوء على الحاجة إلى المزيد من الشراكة المحلية لضمان الأستدامة و تحقيق وضع مربح للجانبين .

وتم إختيار الدفعة الثانية من المتدربين من مجموعة مختارة من مختلف إدارات مفوضية الأتحاد الأفريقي للمشاركة في البرنامج الحالى لمدة أسبوعين فى الصين – بكين.
وناقش الأجتماع الذى تم عقده على هامش برنامج التدريب سبل تعظيم الأستفادة من برامج التدريب وضمان تعاون فعال بين الأتحاد الأفريقي وهواوي في أنشطة بناء القدرات في المستقبل .
