WHAT
An informal gathering to commemorate Egyptian journalist, author and intellectual Gamal al-Ghitani, who passed away on October 18th, 2015, hosted by The Center for Translation Studies, the Department of English and Comparative Literature and the School of Library and Learning Technologies at AUC.
The event will include a panel discussion and screening of a speech given by al-Ghitani at AUC in 2008 as well as a slide show where excerpts from lectures and documentaries by and about al-Ghitani will be displayed.
WHO
Family and friends of al-Ghitani. The panel discussion will include Humphrey Davies, translator of Arabic fiction; Hassan Abdel Mawgoud, writer at Al Akhbar newspaper; Ferial Ghazoul, chair and professor of English and comparative literature, AUC and Samia Mehrez, professor of Arab and Islamic Civilizations and director of the Center of Translation Studies, AUC.
