WHAT
An exhibition, “Egypt Stereoviews: Underwood&Underwood,” organized by The Photographic Gallery in cooperation with The Rare Books and Special Collections Library at AUC. The exhibition will display collections from The Rare Books and Special Collections Library, including documents of the nineteenth century Egyptian culture and the history of travel in the Middle East, using stereoview technique, which is one of many techniques for creating the illusion of three- dimensional depth from given two-dimensional images when viewed with stereoviewers. The documents include subjects spanning along the River Nile, Cairo, the Suez Canal towns and the Egyptian deserts.
The exhibition will be an interactive experience where the viewers will have the opportunity to see these historical images in 3D through a stereoviewer box and anaglyph eyeglasses.
Underwood&Underwood Publishing company, one of the leading companies in stereoviews and that produced several editions on Egypt, will provide the stereoview technique of the exhibition.
