CAIRO – July 12, 2015 – Mondelēz Egypt Foods won the “Protect the well-being of our planet” award at a Regional Ceremony where Mondelez celebrated Sustainable Development projects in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The award recognizes “Our Children’s Wheat” project and was presented in the United Arab Emirates to Ola Loutfi, Corporate & Government Affairs Manager for Egypt and Levant, representing Mondelēz Egypt Foods.Speaking in Dubai, Ola Loutfi said: “It gives me great pride to receive this award. I am honored to be here today on behalf of all participants in “Our Children’s Wheat” project, beginning with the farmers themselves, and all the way up to our employees working in the offices. Our pride and dedication comes from the fact that this initiative has helped farmers increase their income, in support of a crop that has national strategic importance.”
This is the project’s 2nd award, following a 1st award presented by the Federation of Egyptian Industries for “Best Sustainable Pioneering CSR Program.”
“Winning this regional recognition is a crowning achievement that highlights all the efforts that have been invested for the past two years by Mondelez employees, as well as those of our partner organization CARE International (which manages this project on the ground). We are all full of motivation and ambition to drive this project to the next levels of success,” concluded Ola Loutfi.
Bilal Sharabati, Mondelēz Egypt Foods Managing Director commented: “Our Children’s Wheat” initiative represents a platform for sustainable community service that Mondelēz Egypt Foods has established and worked hard to make it a success. Mondelez Food Egypt dedicated time and funds for this program because we believe in the importance of this cause. The initiative aims at developing and promoting new farming techniques, to increase wheat production and save 30% of irrigation water used on wheat farms. The project has achieved great success in 5 governorates, with wheat crops increasing by 15% on pilot farms in Luxor, Aswan, Minya, Sohag and Beheira”.
“Our Children’s Wheat” initiative was launched in 2014 as a collaborative effort between Mondelēz Egypt Foods, Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture, and CARE International, to help address Egypt’s falling wheat yields, a serious problem affecting one of the country’s most strategic commodities. The project will help boost Egypt’s self- sufficiency in wheat, given that the country annually produces 8 million tons of wheat, while importing 10 more million tons to meet consumption needs.
"قمح ولادنا" يفوز بجائزة افضل مشروع تنمية مستدامة فى المنطقة
القاهرة – 12 يوليو، 2015 - فازت مونديليز فودز مصر بجائزة "حماية سلامة الكوكب" عن مشروع "قمح ولادنا"، وذلك في المسابقة التي تقيمها الشركة العالمية وتتنافس فيها فروعها بمختلف الدول، من خلال المساهمة في جهود التنمية المستدامة. وقد فازت بالجائزة مبادرة "قمح ولادنا" التي أطلقتها موندليز فودز مصر، كأفضل مشروع للتنمية المستدامة على مستوى أوروبا الشرقية والشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا. وفي احتفال إقليمي بدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، قامت علا لطفي - مدير العلاقات الحكومية و الخارجية لمصر و المشرق - بتسلم الجائزة بالنيابة عن موندليز فودز مصر.
و قد أعربت علا عن سعادتها بهذه الجائزة قائلة: "من دواعي سرورنا الحصول علي هذه الجائزة. ويشرفني أن أتواجد بينكم اليوم نيابة عن كل من شارك في مشروع "قمح ولادنا"، من المزارعين في الحقول إلى جميع موظفي موندليز فودز مصر. نحن فخورون جدا بهذه المبادرة التي تدعم محصولاً له أهمية استراتيجية لكل المصريين، كما تدعم المزارع المصري وتساعده على زيادة دخله."
وتعتبر هذه هي الجائزة الثانية التي يفوز بها المشروع، بعد فوزه بجائزة مكتب الالتزام البيئي التابع لاتحاد الصناعات المصرية كأفضل مشروع للتنمية المستدامة، في إطار تقدير الشركات التي تثبت التزامها بالمسؤولية المجتمعية.
وأضافت علا: "إن الفوز بهذه الجائزة يعتبر تتويجاً للمجهودات التي بذلها موظفو الشركة على مدار العامين الماضيين، بالتعاون مع هيئة كير مصر، الهيئة الدولية التي تقوم بإدارة المشروع على أرض الواقع، ونحن نأمل أن يحقق هذا المشروع أعلى مستوى من النجاح في المستقبل."
و قد علق بلال شرباتى- المدير التنفيذى لمونديليز فودز مصر- قائلا: " تمثل مبادرة "قمح ولادنا" منصة للتنمية المجتمعية المستدامة، وكان لموندليز الشرف أن تطلق هذه المبادرة الرائدة وترعاها، حتى وصلت لهذا المستوى من النجاح والتقدير المحلي والدولي. ويتضح اهتمامنا في موندليز فودز مصر بهذه المبادرة، ليس فقط من خلال تخصيص ميزانية كبيرة للمشروع، ولكن من خلال المساهمة مع شركائنا في هذا المشروع بمتابعة التخطيط والتنفيذ بصورة مستمرة، لضمان نجاحه." ويهدف المشروع إلي تطوير أساليب جديدة لزراعة القمح وزيادة إنتاجية الفدان، مع توفير 30% من مياه الري المستخدمة فى حقول القمح. وقد حقق المشروع نجاحا كبيراً فى 5 محافظات على مستوى الجمهورية، حيث وصلت نسبة الزيادة الأولية في إنتاجية محصول القمح في حقول النماذج الاسترشادية، إلي 15% في محافظات الأقصر، أسوان، المنيا، سوهاج و البحيرة.
جدير بالذكر أن مبادرة "قمح ولادنا" قد انطلقت في عام 2014 بالتعاون بين مونديليز فودز مصر، ووزارة الزراعة، وهيئة كير الدولية في محاولة لمواجهة مشكلة ضعف إنتاجية القمح، وهو واحد من أهم المحاصيل الاستراتيجية فى مصر. وتساهم المبادرة فى تعزيزمعدل الاكتفاء الذاتى من القمح، حيث تقوم مصر بإنتاج 8 مليون طن من القمح سنويا، مع إحتياجها الي إستيراد 10 مليون طن إضافية.
