ABU DHABI, March 29, 2015 – Registration for the Sport Media Pearl Awards is officially open as of today, March 23, 2015. The awards, announced at the 78th AIPS Congress in Paris earlier this month, are managed by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and hosted by Abu Dhabi Media. Members of the media can register and submit their work at https://www.sportmediapearlawards.com/network/registerUser.
The awards represent a new platform for the celebration and development of sport media excellence among key industry practitioners and enthusiasts across the globe. The opening of submissions officially establishes the most significant international media accolade for achievement in sport storytelling.
Recognition Sports recognition tends to be confined to athletes and players, leaving sport media professionals - those who mediate the exciting world of sport to the ordinary enthusiast - underappreciated.
Submissions The Sport Media Pearl Awards will be open to journalists, radio and television reporters, photographers and videographers on traditional and new media platforms recognized by their AIPS-affiliated National Sport Press Association. Freelancers will be able to submit their entries on the awards website and only entries published between September 1 st, 2014 and August 31 st, 2015 will be considered. Entries can be made in any language.
Submissions should only be made via the Awards’ online website before, September 7th, 2015. Supporting documents and proof of publication are also to be submitted only via the website. A maximum of 2 separate submissions per entrant are allowed across all categories of the awards.
All entrants must be persons who are eighteen years of age before September 1st, 2014 or older.
Prizes The one winner in each of the nine specified categories will receive a special trophy and a cash prize of $10,000. The first and second runners-up in each category will also be invited to attend the awards ceremony in December and will receive a prize money of $1,500. An award will also be introduced for coverage of a social project involving a sporting initiative aimed at bettering the lives of the less fortunate or marginalised. The Sport for a Better World Award will carry a prize of $10,000 for the one media professional in question and a $50,000 donation to the enterprise or project that is the subject of the winning coverage.
Ceremony The awards recognise and reward quality, innovation and originality in sport storytelling. The annual event will be held in December this year in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE: Abu Dhabi is a cultural nexus point between East and West, where global sporting traditions and influences converge.
Trophy The Pearl is the symbol of the Sport Media Pearl Awards: the pearl trophy is awarded only only to the winner in every eligible category, in addition to the prize.
The image of the pearl holds particular significance for Abu Dhabi's heritage, where pearl diving formed part of its emerging economy. The pearl is also globally recognised as a symbol of uniqueness and superiority.
Jury Final awards will be judged by an expert panel of 11 senior professionals from the sport media industry, under the chairmanship of the AIPS President and including also a nominated special Ambassador of Sport. The Jury will be basing its decisions on nominations put forward by a panel composed of the AIPS Executive Committee.
Finalists selected by the Jury will be invited to and must participate in the finalists’ programme in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates during December 2015. The Awards’ organisers shall pay for and arrange all flights, transportation accommodation and certain scheduled meals and will provide visa assistance for the entrant.
Award categories
Entries will be considered from new media as well as traditional platforms in the following categories:
PHOTOGRAPHY
The categories below are open to professional photographers who, on traditional or new media platforms, can best capture in a still image:
• Athletic prowess
An image that depicts a moment of breathtaking sporting excellence and achievement.
• Emotion
An image that best captures emotional impact on those engaged in sport, or on those spectating sport, or both.
WRITING
These categories are dedicated to the written word, encompassing colour writing and column writing on traditional or new media platforms:
Best Column: A piece that best demonstrates relevance, knowledge and authority in the field of sport writing.
Best Colour Piece: Writing that best captures the emotion and sense of occasion at a sporting event.
AUDIO
This category recognises excellence in sports journalism produced in audio formats. This award acknowledges the special skills required to present content for radio, TV, digital broadcast, including podcasts and vodcasts.
VIDEO
The video award is dedicated to those who, on traditional or new media platforms, harness the moving image in sport, from the cameraman to the video web caster, to the producer or production team represented by one individual covering a sport event.
• Documentary
A video that tells a compelling and revealing story about any aspect of the sport world.
• Action Sequence
A video that captures, in a short sequence, the spectacle, energy, dynamism and spirit of a sporting achievement.
Journalistic Weblog
Will be judged on an individual’s capacity to engage, sustain and grow a web-based community around discussion of sport and exchange of opinions.
Sport For a Better World
This is a special award dedicated to coverage of a sporting initiative, on traditional or new media platforms, that aims to better the lives of the less fortunate or marginalised.
SPECIAL AWARDS CATEGORIES
Not open to submissions, these awards recognise achievement in the following fields:
A LIFE IN SPORT
A lifetime recognition award for a media professional who has demonstrated passion and excellence in the field of sport journalism. The winner could be a well known TV commentator, a gifted producer or an accomplished and influential newspaper columnist.
INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING
Dedicated to an investigative treatment, on traditional or new media platforms, that identifies and explains and/or reveals sport related topics or issues judged to be of public interest.
BEST APP
An app that best informs and engages a loyal fan base relating to a particular athlete, sporting event or organisation.

فتح باب الترشيح لـ"جوائز اللؤلؤة" للصحافة الرياضية
أبوظبي 29 مارس 2015: تم الإعلان عن فتح باب التسجيل لـ"جوائز اللؤلؤة" للصحافة الرياضية بدءاً من 23 مارس 2015. وكان إطلاق تلك الجوائز قد أعلن في باريس في وقت سابق من شهر مارس الحالي، أثناء المؤتمر الـ78 لجمعية الصحافة الرياضية الدولية، التي تقوم بإدارة المنافسة، بينما تستضيفها أبوظبي للإعلام. وعليه، بات بإمكان مهنيي الإعلام الرياضي تقديم ترشيحاتهم على الرابط الآتي:
تمثل تلك الجوائز منبراً جديداً للاحتفاء بإعلاميي الصحافة الرياضية وتطوير ذلك القطاع على مستوى العالم. كما يعد فتح باب الترشيح رسمياً للمرة الأولى منعطفاً بارزاً في مسار الإعلام الرياضي ومكسباً ثميناً للصحافة الرياضية.
الاعتراف: في عالم الرياضة، يبدو الاعتراف مقتصراً على الرياضيين واللاعبين مع التقصير في حق الإعلاميين الرياضيين، وهم الذين يضطلعون بدور أساسي في خلق الجو الرياضي الحماسي.
الترشيح: تفتح "جوائز اللؤلؤة" أمام محرري المقالات الرياضية في الصحافة المكتوبة، والصحافيين والمراسلين الرياضيين العاملين في الإذاعة والتلفزيون، والمصورين الفوتوغرافيين ومصوري أفلام الفيديو وأخصائيي الإعلام الرقمي، المنتمين إلى جمعيات الصحافة الرياضية الوطنية في بلدانهم، المعترف بها كفروع لجمعية الصحافة الرياضية الدولية. كما يحق للمهنيين المستقلين المتعاونين مع وسائل الإعلام المشاركة عبر التسجيل على الموقع الإلكتروني أعلاه. ولا تقبل سوى المواد المنشورة أو المبثوثة بين 1 سبتمبر 2014 و31 أغسطس 2015. ويمكن المشاركة بجميع اللغات.
وتقدم الترشيحات حصرياً عبر الرابط الإلكتروني المذكور، وذلك قبل 7 سبتمبر 2015. كما تحال معها المستندات المطلوبة وإثباتات النشر أيضاً عبر الرابط نفسه. ولجميع فئات "جوائز اللؤلؤة"، لا يجوز لأي مرشح تقديم أكثر من مادتين اثنتين.
وينبغي أن يكون المرشح قد أتمَّ عامه الثامن عشر في 1 سبتمبر 2014، أو قبله.
الجوائز: يحصل كل فائز لكل من الفئات التسع المقررة على تحفة خاصة وجائزة نقدية بمبلغ 10 آلاف دولار. وتتم دعوة كل من الثاني والثالث إلى المشاركة في حفل توزيع الجوائز في ديسمبر، وينال كل منهما جائزة نقدية بقيمة 1500 دولار. وتخصص جائزة استثنائية لأفضل عمل إعلامي يسهم في دعم مشروع اجتماعي يهدف إلى تحسين ظروف المعدمين أو المهمشين عن طريق الرياضة. وتبلغ قيمة جائزة "من أجل عالم أفضل" 10 آلاف دولار للمهني المعني، بينما تقدَّم هِبة من 50 ألف دولار إلى المشروع الاجتماعي أو المؤسسة الاجتماعية أو الخيرية التي يتناولها التقرير الصحافي الفائز.
حفل توزيع الجوائز: تشكل الجائزة اعترافاً بأبعاد النوعية والتجديد والتفرد في مجال نقل الأحداث الرياضية إلى الجمهور. ويجرى حفل توزيع الجوائز سنوياً في شهر ديسمبر في أبوظبي، عاصمة دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، التي تمثل حلقة وصل ثقافية بارزة بين الشرق والغرب، ومركزاً مهماً للتقاليد/الأحداث الرياضية.
التحفة: يمثل اللؤلؤ رمز الجوائز المسماة باسمه. ولا تقدم التحفة المؤلفة من اللؤلؤ سوى للفائز الأول من كل فئة، فضلاً عن الجائزة النقدية.
فللؤلؤ هيبة عالية وقيمة رمزية بالغة في تراث أبوظبي، التي شكل الغوص على اللؤلؤ ركناً أساسياً من اقتصادها. كما جرى التقليد عالمياً على الاعتراف باللؤلؤ كرمز للتميز.
لجنة التحكيم: يجرى التقييم النهائي من لدن لجنة من 11 مهنياً من ذوي الخبرة الطويلة في الصحافة الرياضية، برئاسة رئيس جمعية الصحافة الرياضية الدولية. وتتضمن سفيراً رياضياً خاصاً. وتقوم اللجنة بالتقييم وفق قائمة قصيرة تضعها مسبقاً اللجنة التنفيذية للجمعية بعد غربلة الترشيحات المحالة برمتها.
وتتم دعوة المرشحين النهائيين إلى حضور الحفل في أبوظبي في ديسمبر 2015، حيث يتعين عليهم الحضور. ويضطلع المنظمون بالقيام بإجراءات السفر والحجز والنقل والإقامة، والمساعدة في إجراءات الحصول على تأشيرة دخول إن تطلب الأمر.
فئات الجائزة:
تقبل الترشيحات من وسائل الإعلام الجديد أو التقليدي معاً، لكل من الفئات الآتية:
- التصوير الفوتوغرافي.
الفئتان مخصصتان لمصوري المنصات الإعلامية الجديدة أو التقليدية لأفضل صورة:
- في إنجاز رياضي: للقطة تظهر إنجازاً رياضياً يحبس الأنفاس.
- في لحظة انفعال: للقطة تظهر بشكل أخاذ انفعالات المتنافسين أو المتفرجين، أو كليهما.
- المقالات الصحافية الرياضية.
تخصص هذه الفئة للصحافة المكتوبة، بما يشمل الكتابة الملونة وكتابة العواميد، سواءاً في الصحافة التقليدية أو الجديدة:
- أفضل عامود، ينمّ عن دراية كاتبه وإلمامه وسيطرته على موضوع في عالم الرياضة.
- أفضل مقال بالألوان، يثير الحماس والعاطفة في مناسبة حدث رياضي.
- الوسائل السمعية.
تكرِّم هذه الفئة التميز الصحافي الرياضي منتجاً في صورة سمعية. وتخصص الجائزة لدراية خاصة ضرورية لتقديم الخبر الرياضي إذاعياً أو تلفزيونياً أو في الإعلام الرقمي، بما فيه البث والتدوين الصوتي
- الفيديو.
تخصص جائزة الفيديو لأولئك الذين يعملون على منصات تقليدية أو جديدة من أجل بث الصورة النشطة في عالم الرياضة، من المصور التلفزيوني إلى مهندس البث على الإنترنت، مروراً بالمنتج أو فريق الإنتاج ممثلاً بأحد أفراده، في مناسبة تغطية حدث رياضي ما.
- أفضل فيلم تسجيلي. فيلم فيديو يروي قصة مميزة وجاذبة عن عالم الرياضة.
- لقطة "أكشن". لقطة فيديو قصيرة تبين الجانب الاستعراضي لإنجاز أو أداء رياضي، والجهد المبذول والديناميكية وروح التحدي والتألق.
- مدونات صحافية.
تمنح هذه الجائزة لإعلامي رياضي تمكن من تعبئة مدونة على الإنترنت بشكل مستدام، وتطوير تلك المدونة، للنقاش والتواصل وتبادل الآراء حول مواضيع رياضية.
- الرياضة من أجل عالم أفضل.
تُقدَّم هذه الجائزة الخاصة لتغطية صحافية، على منصة إعلامية تقليدية أو جديدة، تتناول مبادرة رياضية تهدف إلى تحسين ظروف المعدمين والمهمشين.
- الفئات الخاصة.
وهذه جوائز غير مشمولة بالترشيحات، وتمنح لمن قدموا إسهامات بارزة على النحو الآتي:
- حياة نذرت للرياضة. تمنح تكريماً لمهني أبدى ولعاً وتميزاً في مجال الصحافة الإعلامية. وقد يكون الفائز مقدم برامج تلفزيونية متألقاً، أو منتجاً موهوباً، أو كاتب عامود محنكاً وذا تأثير في الرأي العام.
- الصحافة الاستقصائية.
تخصص لمعالجة صحافية استقصائية، سواء ضمن منصة إعلامية تقليدية أو جديدة، توفق في تحديد أو عرض، أو كلا ذلك، قضية رياضية تستأثر باهتمام خاص من الرأي العام
- أفضل تطبيق.
توهب هذه الجائزة لأحسن تطبيق يتيح بشكل مميز إعلام مجموعة عشاق ومشجعي رياضي أو لاعب أو منظمة رياضية أو حدث رياضي معين، ويشدهم إلى ذلك.
