Amsterdam, February 20, 2015 – A publication reported yesterday that in 2010 and 2011, a joint unit composed of operatives from the British GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) and the American NSA (National Security Agency) hacked SIM card encryption keys engraved in Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 - GTO) and possibly other SIM vendors’ cards. The publication indicates the target was not Gemalto per se - it was an attempt to try and cast the widest net possible to reach as many mobile phones as possible, with the aim to monitor mobile communications without mobile network operators and users consent. We cannot at this early stage verify the findings of the publication and had no prior knowledge that these agencies were conducting this operation.
Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, is especially vigilant against malicious hackers, and has detected, logged and mitigated many types of attempts over the years. At present we cannot prove a link between those past attempts and what was reported yesterday. We take this publication very seriously and will devote all resources necessary to fully investigate and understand the scope of such sophisticated techniques.
There have been many reported state sponsored attacks as of late, that all have gained attention both in the media and amongst businesses, this truly emphasizes how serious cyber security is in this day and age.

دبي – 21 فبراير 2015: ذكرت إحدى النشرات أمس أنه خلال عامي 2010 و2011 قامت وحدة مشتركة مكونة من إدارة الاتصالات الحكومية البريطانية (GCHQ) ووكالة الأمن القومي الأمريكية (NSA) باختراق مفاتيح التشفير لإحدى بطاقات (SIM) والتي تم إعدادها من قبل جيمالتو المدرجة في بورصة يورونكست تحت الرمز (NL0000400653 GTO) وربما إحدى الشركات المزودة لبطاقات (SIM). وأشارت هذه النشرة أن الهدف من ذلك لم يكن جيمالتو بحد ذاتها – لكنها كانت محاولة لتجربة ونشر أوسع شبكة ممكنة بهدف الوصول إلى أـكبر عدد ممكن من الهواتف النقالة لغايات مراقبة الاتصالات النقالة دون موافقة الشركات المشغلة للشبكات والمستخدمين، ومن المبكر بالنسبة لنا التأكد مما ذكرته هذه النشرة وليس لدينا علم مسبق بقيام هاتين الوكالتين بهذه العملية.
علماً أن جيمالتو الرائدة عالمياً في مجال الأمن الرقمي واعية ومتيقظة كلياً لعمليات الاختراق الالكتروني، وقد اكتشفت وعالجت وخفضت العديد من أنواع هذه المحاولات طوال السنوات السابقة، ولا نستطيع حالياً إثبات العلاقة بين محاولات الاختراق التي حدثت في الماضي وبين ما ذكرته النشرة.
كما أننا ننظر بجدية إلى ما ذكرته المنشورة وسوف نكرس كافة الموارد اللازمة للقيام بالتحقيق وفهم نطاق هذه الأعمال التقنية المعقدة.
وقد أشارت التقارير الإخبارية مؤخراً إلى وجود العديد من الهجمات الإلكترونية التي تتولاها الحكومات والتي جذبت انتباه الوسائل الإعلامية وقطاع الأعمال، مما يؤكد بشكل قوي مدى الاهتمام الذي يستحوذ عليه الأمن الإلكتروني في الزمن الحاضر.
