Annual US$4 million prize rewards individuals, organisations and schools making a positive impact in the fields of renewable energy and sustainability
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - 20 January 2015: (ME NewsWire) Today, submissions and nominations opened for the 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize. The Prize, an annual US$4 million award, recognises individuals, organisations and schools for advancing solutions that will meet the challenges of climate change, energy security and the environment.
Submissions and nominations to the 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize opened at 12.00 a.m. Gulf Standard Time. The Prize accepts submissions across four of the five categories: Large Corporation, Small and Medium Enterprise, Non-Profit Organisation and Global High Schools and nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Leading the call for submissions, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, director-general of the Zayed Future Energy Prize said, “Innovation is a driving force for change – we need clean energy innovators to find sustainable solutions to the pressing global challenges facing the world today. The Zayed Future Energy Prize recognises leaders, inventors, entrepreneurs and students who strive for change and rewards them for their achievements.

Six months ago the Zayed Future Energy Prize received a record number of entries for this year’s awards with a total of 1,111 submissions and nominations from 84 countries. Nine winners collected the 2015 Prize at an awards ceremony on Monday, 19 January 2015, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
In seven years, winners and finalists of the Zayed Future Energy Prize have touched the lives of over 150,000,000 million people – generating 190,000 MWh from renewables, reducing 800 million tonnes of carbon emissions, providing safe drinking water to 6 million people and introduced 350,000 people to sustainable solutions and management best practices.

"جائزة زايد لطاقة المستقبل" تفتح باب المشاركة في دورة عام 2016
أبوظبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة – 20 يناير 2015: (ميدل ايست نيوز واير) أعلنت جائزة زايد لطاقة المستقبل اليوم عن فتح باب المشاركة في دورة العام 2016. ويتم منح الجائزة، التي تبلغ قيمة جوائزها 4 ملايين دولار أمريكي، للفائزين من الشركات والمنظمات والمدارس والأفراد ممن قدموا حلولاً متميزة ومبتكرة لمواجهة تحديات أمن الطاقة والمياه وتغير المناخ.
وستبدأ إدارة الجائزة بتلقي الترشيحات والمشاركات لدورة عام 2016 ابتداءً من 20 يناير الجاري. وتقبل الجائزة المشاركات ضمن خمس فئات هي: الشركات الكبيرة، والمؤسسات الصغيرة والمتوسطة، والمنظمات غير الربحية، والجائزة العالمية للمدارس الثانوية، وأفضل إنجاز شخصي للأفراد.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال معالي الدكتور سلطان أحمد الجابر، المدير العام للجائزة: "يمثل الابتكار خطوة أساسية لتحويل الطموحات والأهداف المنشودة إلى حلول وتطبيقات عملية تسهم في ضمان أمن الطاقة وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة. وتماشياً مع إرث الوالد المؤسس الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيب الله ثراه، ومع رؤية القيادة بتعزيز جسور التواصل، تسعى جائزة زايد لطاقة المستقبل إلى تحفيز المبتكرين في مجال الطاقة النظيفة لإيجاد حلول مستدامة لمواجهة التحديات المُلحّة التي تواجه عالمنا. وتهدف الجائزة إلى تكريم القادة والمخترعين ورواد الأعمال والطلبة ممن قدموا حلولاً فاعلة من شأنها دعم جهود التصدي لهذه التحديات"، موضحاً أن "الجائزة وسفراؤها نجحوا على مدى السنوات السبع الماضية في إحداث أثر إيجابي في حياة أكثر من 150 مليون شخص حول العالم من خلال تحسين ظروفهم المعيشية".
وتلقت الجائزة في دورتها السابعة عدداً قياسياً من المشاركات بلغ 1111 طلباً من 84 دولة، حيث تم اختيار 9 فائزين من أصل 31 مرشحاً شملتهم القائمة النهائية لدورة 2015، وتم تكريمهم في حفل أقيم يوم الاثنين 19 يناير 2015 ضمن فعاليات "أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة".
والجدير بالذكر أنه على مدار سبع سنوات ساهم الفائزون والمرشحون النهائيون للجائزة في تحسين حياة أكثر من 150 مليون شخص حول العالم، من خلال إنتاج 190 ألف ميجاواط من الكهرباء النظيفة التي يتم توليدها من مصادر الطاقة المتجددة، وبالتالي خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية بمقدار 800 مليون طن، وتوفير مياه صالحة للشرب لما يقرب من ستة ملايين شخص، بالإضافة إلى تمكين 350 ألف شخص حول العالم من الاستفادة من الحلول المستدامة والتعرف على أفضل الممارسات في مجال إدارة الطاقة.
