Cairo, 29 December 2014 – A few days before the year 2014 unfolds, Omar Samra does it again and succeeds to ski the last degree of the South Pole, crossing 111 kilometers, to raise Egypt’s flag and gets closer to achieving the “Adventurers Grand Slam” challenge.
Joined by a team of 11 adventurers from Germany, Russia and India amongst others, Samra started his trip from the 89th degree at the South Pole, skiing from 7 to 9 hours daily, crossing a distance between 14 to 16 kilometers, depending on weather conditions, as Antarctica is considered to be one of the coldest, driest and windiest continents on earth.
“It was a rough start for me at the beginning”, Omar Samra said. I had a stomach microbe causing me severe pains; and I was on antibiotics for five days, which affected my performance early on; especially, that we had to pull sleds weighing 80 kilograms throughout our journey. However, as I improved, I started building more stamina and was able to make it. With this achievement close to the new year, I hope that 2015 will be a good year for Egypt and for everyone who is passionate to pursue his dreams”, Samra added.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me throughout my challenge; especially the Commercial International Bank (CIB) which is sponsoring my ‘Adventurers Grand Slam’, as part of the bank’s commitment towards the society and youth development. Also, thanks to my media partners MBC Masr TV, Nogoum FM Radio and Masrawy online portal for their continuous support and for sharing the daily updates of my trip through their media outlets”, Samra concluded.
Omar started his trip by flying to Punta Arenas town, which is in the far South of Latin America and Chile. From there, he boarded on a special Russian aircraft which is modified to land on a blue ice runway in Antarctica. He then flew with his crew to the 89th degree to start the trip.
Samra has completed the “7 Summits Challenge” in June 2013; and is now pursing “The Adventurers Grand Slam”, which is the feat of climbing the 7 Summits and skiing to the North and South Poles.
With this new achievement, Samra intends to proceed to the North Pole in April 2015; to become the first Egyptian to achieve the ‘Adventurers Grand Slam’ challenge, which has only been done by less than 40 people in history.

ويقترب من تحقيق مغامرة الجراند سلام
القاهرة ، 29 ديسمبر 2014 - قبل أيام معدودة من انتهاء عام 2014 ، و بعد رحلة استغرقت حوالي اسبوعين ، استطاع المغامر المصري عمر سمره أن ينجح في تزلج "الدرجة الاخيرة " من القطب الجنوبي ، والذي قطع خلالها مسافة 111 كم ، ليرفع علم مصر متوجاً نجاحه و يقترب من تحقيق تحدي "مغامرة الجراند سلام " .
وكان عمر قد انطلق في رحلته من الدرجة 89 الى الدرجة 90 جنوبا من القاعدة القطبية ضمن فريق مكون من 11 مغامر من عدة دول بينها المانيا وروسيا والهند ، حيث كان يتزلج مع فريقه من 7 الى 9 ساعات يومياً ، يقطع خلالها من 14 الى 16 كم على حسب الظروف الجوية ، حيث تعتبر قارة انتارتكا من أكثر القارات برداً و جفافاً ، كما تتسم بشدة الرياح .
وعلّق عمر قائلاً: " لقد عانيت من آلام شديدة في المعدة ، واضررت أن اتناول مضادات حيوية لمدة خمسة أيام مما أثر على لياقتي في البداية ، و خاصة اننا نضطر الى سحب زلاجات يصل وزنها إلى 80 كيلوجرام خلال الرحلة ، لكن الحمد الله تحسنت حالتي واستطعت ان استكمل الرحلة لأهدي هذا النجاح لبلدي مصر ونحن على أبواب عام جديد لتكون بشرة خير لنا جميعاً ".
وأضاف عمر: " وأود ان اشكر كل من دعموني خلال الرحلة ، وأخص بالشكر البنك التجاري الدولي الذي يدعمني في هذا التحدي من خلال ايمانه بأهمية المساهمة بدورفعّال تجاه تنمية الشباب، وكذلك الشركاء الاعلاميين قناة التلفزيون ام بي سي مصر ، وراديو نجوم اف ام ، وموقع مصراوي لدعمهم المستمر لي ببث تفاصيل الرحلة يومياً وعبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ".
وكان عمر قد بدأ رحلته من مدينة بونتا اريناس وهي في الطرف الجنوبي لأمريكا اللاتينية وشيلي . ومن هناك استقل طائرة روسية مجهزة خصيصاً للهبوط على مدرج من الجليد الأزرق ، حيث أقام في مخيم "يونيون جلاسيير" عند وصوله الى انتاركتيكا ، ومنها استقل الطائرة مرة أخرى إلى الدرجة 89 في القاعدة القطبية لبداية رحلته .
ومن الجدير بالذكر ان سمره كان قد أكمل تحدي القمم السبع في يونيو 2013 ، وهو يحلم بالنجاح في تحديه الجديد "مغامرة الجراند سلام " والتي تعني تسلق القمم السبع ، بالاضافة الى التزلج الى القطبين الجنوبي والشمالي .وينوي سمره مواصلة المرحلة الاخيرة من هذا التحدي بالتزلج الى القطب الشمالي في ابريل 2015 ليصبح بذلك أول مصري يحقق هذا الانجاز الذي استطاع اقل من 40 شخص على مر التاريخ تحقيقه.
