Be Inspired Awards Program Receives Record Number of Offshore Engineering Submissions

January 28, 2015 - The Innovation in Offshore Engineering category recently received a record-breaking 31 submissions, with projects spanning everything from the heaviest transportation and installation operations of new jackets and platforms to reconstruction, repair, and recertification operations performed at sea while production continued. The eight submissions from India are particularly impressive, and not surprising given India’s increasing emphasis on offshore oil production to help meet its growing demand for energy.

The innovations cited across the projects include a self-installing, moveable platform for economically marginal fields, patented wind farm designs, a tidal energy project, and numerous innovative floating solutions to address all types of offshore production needs. All of the submissions demonstrate how Bentley software is being innovatively used to push the boundaries in the harshest of environments but with lower project risks and reduced costs.

S Karunanithi, CE(D)-Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, India, said, “Bentley Systems provides an efficient platform to carry out the structural integrity studies of offshore platforms that are vital for the sustained production of oil and gas, thus ensuring a nation’s energy security.”

Ian Emery, information coordinator, global engineering, Dockwise, said, “Dockwise is a pioneer in the offshore industry and has been using SACS and MOSES for many years. We succeeded in significantly reducing technical float-over time for the SHWE field development project in the Bay of Bengal, saving our clients significant costs and gaining accolades from the project for our excellent use of this engineering software. I am very excited by the developments that Bentley is making to further integrate SACS with MOSES and with ProjectWise. This will help us extend our engineering excellence yet further to all our global offices and our stakeholders, and help our global team safely realize the inconceivable and set new boundaries of what is possible at sea.”

Herm Bussemaker, managing director, Orca Offshore, said, “MOSES software has the unique feature to be able to perform integrated structural analysis for any type of marine structure in a dynamic sea environment, which contributes to the realization of innovative offshore structures.”
