Programme that aims to discover youth artistic talent across MENA region

Under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler  of  Sharjah,  Chairperson  of  the  Supreme  Council  for  Family  Affairs,Middle East Theatre Academy (META) announced today the launch of ‘Home Grown’, an intensive theatre training programme in partnership with The Kevin Spacey Foundationdesigned to discover young talent across the region interested in film and theatre.

Home Grown, which will be opened in Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts, is an unparalleled opportunity offered on a philanthropic basis to youth across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to develop their performance skills. The programme will train youth representing up to seventeen different countries from the MENA region, exploring those who have potential and passion for the performing arts. This programme will encourage self-belief and expand horizons, developing the capacity of youth, providing them with everyday life skills to help their development and personal growth.

Kevin Spacey will be present at times throughout the project and will lead expert classes for participants in addition to observing rehearsals.The opening performance will take place in Sharjah in the UAE on the 25^th of January 2015 at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts.Participants in the programme will have an opportunity to gain insight in the areas of physicality, movement, voice, characterisation, staging and stage craft.

Commenting on the launch of the project, Kevin Spacey, said:

"Over the last four years The Kevin Spacey Foundation, KSF, has been working to nurture, train, and support emerging artists in the performing arts and film. We offer financial assistance and mentoring to get new work off the ground, unique theatre in education projects to inspire learning and fully funded university places to those young artists. We do this because I believe that if you have been lucky enough to do well in the business you want to do well in, then it is your obligation to send the elevator back down. That's why we are working with the Middle East Theatre Academy ­ which we launched in partnership with Badr Jafar a few years ago­ and are excited about presenting Home Grown, the first venture between the Academy and my Foundation.'’ ­

From his part, Badr Jafar, co-Founder of the Middle East Theatre Academy, commented: “The arts have always been an essential pillar of world civilizations, and the aim of this philanthropic initiative is to cultivate artistic spirit from the myriad of talented young men and women across the region. I’m confident that a programme of this nature will give the opportunity to nurture the home-grown talentsand develop them to bethe ambassadors of the Arab region around the world.”

The intensive theatre training programme will run at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts and will take place between 10^th and 27^th of January 2015 to be offered completely free of charge for 35 youths from across the region. The programme will culminate in the production of a new play in Arabic and English with a regional theme which will be publicly performed in the UAE and elsewhere.

Applicants, aged 18-25, should apply online through the Middle East Theatre Academy website www.middleeasttheatre.org. There will be online auditions, followed by in person auditions to select the firstgroup of participants.

META was launched in 2011 and aims to offer a vast range of creative opportunities for emerging artists throughout the Middle East and North Africa, specifically encouraging underprivileged youth. META aims to build a community, provide a prosperous environment and advance the society of the Arab World through theater.

تحت رعاية قرينة صاحب السمو حاكم الشارقة، سمو الشيخة جواهر بنت محمد القاسمي، رئيس المجلس الأعلى لشؤون الأسرة، أعلنت أكاديمية الشرق الأوسط لفنون المسرح اليوم عن تدشين البرنامج المسرحي التدريبي المكثف"هوم جراون"Home Grownبالتعاون مع مؤسسة كيفين سبيسي والذي يهدف إلى استكشاف المواهب الشابة في المنطقة بين المهتمين بالسينما والمسرح.

يوفر برنامج "هوم جراون" الذي سيفتتح في معهد الشارقة للفنون المسرحية، فرصة إستثنائية مقدمة بشكل خيري للشبابفي جميع أنحاء الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا لتطوير مهاراتهم الاستعراضية. كما يقدم البرنامج التدريب اللازم لمجموعة من الشباب تمثل 17 بلًداً من بلدان المنطقة، بهدف استكشاف القدرات الواعدة من بين المهتمين بالفنون الاستعراضية. ويسعى البرنامج إلى تشجيع الشباب على الثقة بالنفس وتوسيع الأفق وتعزيز الإمكانيات والمهارات اليومية اللازمة للتنمية والتطوير الشخصي.

من المقرر أن يحضر كيفين سبيسي بعض فعاليات المشروع، وسيتولى بنفسه توجيه مجموعة من الصفوف المتخصصة للمشاركين في البرنامج ومراجعة العروض في مرحلة الإعداد. هذا وسيتم عرض أول إستعراض في إمارة الشارقة بدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في 25 يناير ٢٠١٥ بمعهد الشارقة للفنون المسرحية. وسيحصل المشاركون في البرنامج على فرصة الاطلاع على تفاصيل بشأن العديد من مجالات الاستعراضات الفنية مثل الاستعداد الجسماني والحركي والصوتي وسمت الشخصية والوقوف على المسرح وغير ذلك من المجالات الفنية للمسرح.

وقال كيفين سبيسي تعليقاً على إطلاق هذا المشروع: "على مدى السنوات الأربع الماضية، عملت مؤسسة كيفين سبيسي،على رعاية وتدريب ودعم الفنانين الناشئين في الفنون الإستعراضية والسينما. وتقدم المؤسسة المساعدة المالية والخبرة لمساعدة الأعمال الجديدة على الخروج إلى النور، بالإضافة إلى مشاريع تعليم مسرحية فريدة من نوعها ومنح دراسية مدفوعة التكاليف من الجامعات لهؤلاء الشباب. نحن نفعل ذلك لأننا نؤمن أنه إذا كان الشخص محظوظاً بما فيه الكفاية ليحقق النجاح في مجال العمل الذي يحبه، فهذا الشخص لديه مسؤولية ليساعد الآخرين على الوصول إلى أحلامهم. ولذلك نعمل مع أكاديمية الشرق الأوسط لفنون المسرح، والتيأطلقناها في شراكة مع بدر جعفر منذ عدة سنوات، ونحن متحمسون للغاية لتقديم برنامج "هوم جراون" وهو أول تعاون مشترك ما بين الأكاديمية والمؤسسة".

                                                                                     

من ناحيته، علّق الشريك المؤسس لأكاديمية الشرق الأوسط لفنون المسرح، بدر جعفر قائلاً: "كانت الفنون دوماً جزءاً كبيراً من الحضارات العالمية، ويهدف برنامجنا الخيري هذا إلى تشجيع الروح الفنية الخلاقة المنتشرة بين الشباب والشابات في منطقتنا العربية. ولديّ ثقة كبيرة في أن مثل هذا البرامج ستتيح الفرصة لتنمية المواهب المحلية ليكونوا سفراء المنطقة العربية حول العالم".

من المقرر أن يبدأ البرنامج التدريبي المكثف على فنون المسرح في معهد الشارقة للفنون المسرحية خلال الفترة ما بين 10 و27 من يناير 2015، بحيث يتم تقديمه إلى ٣٥ شاباً من مختلف أنحاء المنطقة مجاناً.ومن المقرر اختتام فعاليات البرنامج بإنتاج مسرحية جديدة باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية حول قضية من قضايا المنطقة، ومن ثم عرضها أمام الجمهور في دولة الإمارات وأماكن أخرى.

يجب أن تتراوح أعمار المشتركين في البرنامج بين 18 و25 عاماً، ويتعيّن عليهم تقديم طلبات الاشتراك من خلال موقع أكاديمية الشرق الأوسط لفنون المسرح على الإنترنت من خلال الموقعwww.middleeasttheatre.org. وتبدأ اختبارات الأداء عبر الإنترنت تليها لقاءات شخصية بهدف اختيار أول دفعة من المشاركين في البرنامج.

                                                         

يشار إلى أن يتاريخ إنشاء أكاديمية الشرق الأوسط لفنون المسرح يرجع إلى عام 2011 بهدف تقديم مجموعة متنوعة من فرص الإبداع للفنانين اليافعين في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، وتحديداً لتشجيع الشباب الذي يعاني من قلة الفرص. كما تهدف الأكاديمية إلى النهوض بالمجتمع وتوفير بيئة مزدهرة من خلال الترويج للمسرح في العالم العربي.
