Nikken showcases award-winning Riyadh Tower at Cityscape

Renowned Japanese architect exhibits 338 metre ‘crystal & light’ structure designed to command spectacular views over Saudi capital

The iconic award-winning Riyadh Tower, designed by leading Japanese architect Nikken Sekkei, is being showcased at Cityscape Global this week.

The design for the mixed-use Riyadh Tower, is 338 metres tall consisting of 73 levels, situated on a 6,800 square metre plot of land in the Olaya business district of Riyadh, a prime location in the Saudi capital.

It is planned to house a 201-key five-star hotel, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. It will also accommodate, office space, retail outlets, 38 one-to four-bedroom serviced apartments, 228 private residences, penthouse units and right at the top there is a ‘Sky Palace’ apartment, a ‘Sky Restaurant and Cigar Lounge’ affording spectacular panoramic views across the city.

Certainly, living up to its mission, to challenge the world of architecture and to ensure every project is a masterpiece, Nikken’s design was chosen for the quality of its creative entitled ‘rising motion’.

“This design combines the two main themes of ‘crystal’ and light’ – with the tower being crowned by crystal-shaped forms that reflect the colour of the sky transforming from blue to golden orange and then midnight blue, as day turns to night. It is simply unrivalled in all aspects of its design,” said Dubai-based Dr. Fadi Jabri, Nikken Sekkei’s regional manager for the MENA regions,CIS & India.

The design was so striking that it was chosen as the ‘Best Mixed-Use Architecture - Arabia’ at the International Property Awards in London at the end of last year.

“We wanted to design an innovative, distinctive, authentic, inspirational building that would become a sustainable, quality landmark in its own right, simply put, the best high-rise building in Saudi Arabia,” added Jabri.

Riyadh Tower is not the only project that Nikken Sekkei is involved in Saudi Arabia. It has a long history of involvement, including the design of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah completed in 1993.

More recently, its cutting-edge energy saving technologies helped the Japanese architect to secure the design and engineering consultancy contract for the new headquarters of the Saudi Stock Exchange, or Tadawul.

The new stock exchange at the heart of King Abdulla Financial District in Riyadh, will be a state-of-the-art, sustainable and intelligent building of the future, a multi-year project during which Saudi Arabia aims to consolidate its position as the Middle East’s financial capital.

Nikken Sekkei, was awarded the design contract after winning a competition involving six international companies, which had been shortlisted out of an original 32 prequalified firms.

Some of its sustainable design features include a “sunlight scooper” to introduce natural sunlight and photovoltaic panels that reduce energy consumption as well as solar shading which helps to reduce the cooling load.

To deliver natural light to basement levels and other dark interior spaces, Nikken designed light-reflecting mirrors and introduced a cool pond to store cooled air at night to reduce day time cooling loads.

"نيكين سيكي" اليابانية تفوز بعقد تصميم برج الرياض

فازت شركة نيكن سيكي، الشركة اليابانية الرائدة في مجال التصميم المعماري، بعقد التصميم والاستشارات الخاصة بالأعمال الهندسية لمشروع "برج الرياض" وهو مشروع معماري متعدد الاستخدامات سيتم تشييده على أرض تبلغ مساحتها 6,800 متر مربع في منطقة العليا التجارية في العاصمة السعودية الرياض بارتفاع 338 متر ويحتوي على 73 طابقا.

وجاء فوز نيكين سيكي بتصميم المشروع، الذي يعد واحدا من أبرز المشاريع العمرانية الطموحة المقبلة في المملكة، بعد منافسة قوية مع 6 شركات تصميم عالمية تم اختيارها ضمن القائمة المختصرة من أصل 32 شركة متأهلة.

ويضم مشروع برج الرياض مجموعة من المرافق بما فيها فندق خمس نجوم يحتوي على 201 غرفة ومكاتب ومحلات بيع بالتجزئة و38 شقة سكنية تتكون من غرفة الى اربع غرف و228 منزلا خاصا ووحدات بنثهاوس اضافة إلى شقة "سكاي بالاس" ومطعم "سكاي ريستورانت" وقاعة سيجار بالطابق الأعلي في البرج الذي يتميز بإطلالة بانورامية على مختلف معالم مدينة الرياض.

وقال الدكتور فادي جبري، المدير الإقليمي لشركة نيكين سيكي لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا والهند ومقره دبي: "في الواقع يعد تصميم هذا البرج قطعة فنية مبتكرة من جميع النواحي. ويتميز التصميم بالجمع بين مادتين رئيسيتين هما "الكريستال" و"الضوء" وتوظيفهما من أجل ابراز جمالية الكريستال التي تشكل قالب التصميم بحيث تعكس زرقة السماء وتحويلها من الأزرق إلى البرتقالي الذهبي ومن ثم إلى الأزرق عند منتصف الليل بفعل التعامل مع الإضاءة وانعكاساتها بشكل علمي مدروس".

يذكر أن تصميم برج الرياض فاز بجائزة أفضل تصميم لمشروع معماري متعدد الاستخدامات في حفل توزيع جوائز العقارات العالمية الذي أقيم في لندن نهاية العام الماضي.

وأضاف الدكتور جبري: "عملنا على ترجمة التوجيهات الخاصة بالمشروع وتوظيفها في ابتكار تصميم متميز وملهم لمبنى بارز ليصبح أفضل مبنى عالي في المملكة العربية السعودية ومعلما بارزا يتمتع بالاستدامة والجودة العالية".

ولم يكن برج الرياض المشروع الوحيد الذي صمم من قبل نيكين سيكي، فقد شهد قطاع المشاريع العمرانية في المملكة العربية السعودية تاريخا وطيدا من تصميم نيكين سيكي، بما في ذلك مشروع البنك الاسلامي للتنمية في مدينة جدة والذي انجز في عام 1993، بالإضافة الى مبنى المقر الجديد للسوق المالية السعودية "تداول" الذي يضم أحدث تقنيات توفير الطاقة في مركز الملك عبد الله المالي في الرياض.

ويحظى تصميم مشروع برج الرياض بالعديد من المزايا التي ركزت نيكين سيكي على توظيفها بشكل علمي خدمة لاستدامة المشروع بما في ذلك مصادر توفير أشعة الشمس الطبيعية داخل طوابق المبنى وألواح ضوئية لخفض استهلاك الطاقة وتخفيف الحمل على مصادر التبريد فيه.
