ICDL announces the formation of ICDL Arabia to take over operations in Egypt

Strategic new initiative aims to give ICDL greater brand uniformity resulting in stronger presence and visibility across the region

UAE, June 21, 2014 - ICDL GCC Foundation and the ECDL Foundation, the global governing body of the ICDL program, today announced the formation of ICDL Arabia. The newly formed ICDL Arabia, will combine ICDL activities in the GCC States, Iraq and Egypt under a single identifiable brand thereby resulting in greater brand uniformity, increased visibility and a more consolidated ICDL presence in the region.

Taking full effect on September 1, 2014, ICDL Arabia will be backed by a wealth of experience in delivering the ICDL certification programs in the region. Over the past 12 years, the ICDL has been delivered to more than two million candidates across the region making it by far the largest and most successful ICT skills certification program in the region. To ensure a smooth transition, ICDL in the GCC states, Iraq and Egypt have already started to implement arrangements to seamlessly shift their current operations to ICDL Arabia. Partners that are affected by this shift will be kept fully informed as to progress over the coming months and all existing contracts shall remain in effect and will be transitioned to ICDL Arabia in due course. The new, expanded ICDL Arabia will be responsible for more than 860 accredited centers across the region as well as a wide range of key partnerships with government organizations and private sector partners.

Jamil Ezzo, who was first appointed as Director General for the ICDL GCC Foundation in 2004, has been named as ICDL Arabia’s new Director General. Through his leadership, Ezzo has successfully led ICDL GCC Foundation in its implementation of initiatives to place ICT training, IT security and Cyber Safety at the top of government agendas across the region. He has also championed many initiatives aimed at securing government decrees requiring civil servants including educators to achieve the ICDL qualification. He created and led funding social development initiatives targeting women, job seekers, retirees, people with special needs, economically disadvantaged individuals and prison inmates. He has been an active proponent in the call for a wide-scale implementation of awareness programs, including skills validation through training and certification programs focusing on IT Security, Cyber Safety and the effective, safe, responsible and mindful use of Social Media.

Building on the pioneering role of the UNESCO-Cairo Office in the introduction and support of the ICDL program in the GCC region and the overwhelming success achieved by the ICDL certification program in the GCC states, the newly-launched ICDL Arabia is expected to further strengthen the efforts of the ECDL Foundation in the overall implementation of the ICDL program in the region.

ICDL تعلن إنشاء ICDL Arabia لإدارة نشاطاتها في مصر

[الإمارات، 21 يونيو 2014] - أعلنت مؤسسةICDL GCC  ومؤسسة ECDL، الجهة الدولية المشرفة على تطبيق برنامج ICDL، اليوم عن تأسيس ICDL Arabia لتكون علامة تجارية موحّدة تضم تحت مظلتها كافة نشاطات برنامج ICDL في دول الخليج العربي والعراق ومصر. وتكتسب المبادرة الجديدة أهمية استراتيجية باعتبارها خطوة نوعية تهدف إلى تعزيز إسم وحضور برنامج ICDL وتوسيع نطاق انتشاره على المستوى الإقليمي.

ويأتي إنشاء ICDL Arabia، التي ستنطلق اعتباراً من 1 أيلول/سبتمبر المقبل، استناداً إلى خبرة طويلة  في تنفيذ برنامج ICDL في جميع أنحاء المنطقة وسجل حافل بالنجاح على مدى 12 عاماً في منح شهادات الـ ICDL لأكثر من 2 مليون مرشح، الأمر الذي عزز ريادة برنامج ICDL كأكبر وأنجح البرامج المعتمدة في تطوير مهارات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات إقليمياً. وبدأت مؤخراً عمليات تنفيذ الإجراءات اللازمة لضمان الانتقال السلس للعمليات التشغيلية الحالية لبرنامج ICDL إلى ICDL Arabia. وسيتم إطلاع الشركاء المعنيين بعملية الانتقال على مراحل التطوّر المنجزة على مدى الأشهر القليلة المقبلة، على أن يستمر عمل برنامج ICDL كالمعتاد بالنسبة لعقود الاعتماد الحالية والتي سيتم نقلها إلى ICDL Arabia في الوقت المناسب. وستتولى ICDL Arabia مسؤولية الإشراف على ما يزيد عن 860 مركز معتمد في مختلف أنحاء منطقة الخليج العربي والعراق ومصر، فضلاً عن تأسيس شراكات استراتيجية متينة مع الهيئات الحكومية ومؤسسات القطاع الخاص بما يخدم التطلعات المشتركة.

وتم اختيار جميل عزو، الذي يشغل منصب مدير عام مؤسسة ICDL GCC منذ العام 2004، ليكون المدير العام لـ ICDL Arabia. وقاد عزو خلال العقد الماضي مؤسسة ICDL GCC نحو النجاح في تنفيذ سلسلة من المبادرات النوعية التي كان لها الأثر الأكبر في جعل برامج تطوير مهارات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات والأمن الرقمي والسلامة عبر شبكة الإنترنت في مقدمة الأولويات الحكومية في منطقة الخليج العربي. وساهم عزو أيضاً في إطلاق و تأمين تمويل وتنفيذ مجموعة من المبادرات المنضوية في إطار برامج التنمية الاجتماعية والموجهة لنشر الثقافة المعلوماتية بين أوساط النساء والباحثين عن عمل والمتقاعدين وذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة والسجناء وذوي الدخل المنخفض. كما كان له دور بارز في دعم جهود تنفيذ مبادرات توعوية واسعة النطاق وتطبيق برامج التدريب والاختبار لمنح شهادات معتمدة تركز على أمن تكنولوجيا المعلومات والسلامة على شبكة الإنترنت والاستخدام الفعال والآمن لوسائل التواصل الاجتماعي.

وأعرب جميل عزو عن سعادته باختياره لتولي منصب مدير عام ICDL Arabia، مؤكداً أهمية المبادرة الجديدة باعتبارها استكمالاً لرؤية ICDL المتمحورة حول تعزيز الأمن المعلوماتي ونشر الوعي الرقمي بين أوساط مختلف الفئات العمرية والاجتماعية في العالم. مضيفاً: "ينطوي تأسيس ICDL Arabia على العديد من المزايا الإيجابية التي ستصب في خدمة منطقة الخليج العربي، لاسيّما على صعيد الارتقاء بالمهارات الرقمية التي تعتبر ركيزة أساسية لتأهيل وتمكين الكوادر البشرية من الانخراط بفعالية في سوق العمل التي تشهد تنافسية عالية في القرن الحادي والعشرين. ونتطلع من جانبنا إلى العمل عن قرب مع شركائنا الاستراتيجيين في سبيل توسيع نطاق انتشار برنامج ICDL على مستوى المنطقة."

وسيمثل إطلاق ICDL Arabia دفعة قوية لدعم جهود مؤسسة ECDL الرامية إلى تطبيق برنامج ICDL على نطاق واسع إقليمياً، بناءا على الدور الريادي لمكتب منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلوم والثقافة "اليونيسكو" في القاهرة في تقديم برنامج ICDL للمنطقة العربية عام 2001.
