The growing
aviation hub in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Erbil International Airport will be
the Gold Sponsor for the two day event attended by authorities and industry
leaders.
Azmar Airlines and Erbil International Airport confirmed their
participation at the Iraq Airports Show as the Platinum and Gold sponsor
respectively. The event organised by Babylon International FZE in association with Sulaimaniyah Airport as
host.
Iraq plans to construct a new central airport and is continuing a fleet
expansion as the country seeks to revive its travel industry and lure tourists.
The government will unveil a list of contractors at the earliest to bid for
construction of the airport in Karbala south of Baghdad. At a cost of US$2.5
billion, the new hub would be the country’s biggest, with capacity of 20
million passengers a year. Besides new airports are also coming in Duhouk,
Mosul, while existing terminals are undergoing refurbishment in Baghdad ,Basra
and Najaf and terminal expansion will soon start in Erbil and Sulaimaniyah

is the destination for anyone who wants to work in, or come to Iraq for
business or tourism,” explains Baker Saeed Taufiq, General Director
of Azmar Air. The company has found a niche in the Iraqi aviation market with
only five years of operations and is looking to develop further. Azmar Air, the
only Kurdish aviation company that operates in Iraq, has gained an interesting
market position thanks to the region’s unique role as a gateway to Iraq.
“Erbil International Airport continued
to grow in 2014 as new milestones for passenger, cargo and aircraft movements were
set. We will be having a terminal expansion shortly,” said Talar Faiq Director General
of Erbil International Airport. “We are duty bound to participate in an airport
show happening in the Kurdistan region and will use the opportunity to scout
for new suppliers. The Iraq airport show has grown exponentially and it’s good
to meet with peers and make fresh contacts,” she added.
An international jury at the Emerging Markets Airport Show in
Dubai has voted Erbil International Airport the best airport
amongst emerging market airports with less than five million passengers per
annum, across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. “We are grateful to our airline
partners who have seen the potential Erbil and Kurdistan has to offer and we
look forward to welcome more airlines in due course as demand for air travel
grows and the dynamic Kurdish economy expands,” Faiq said.
Ram Muthaiah, General Manager of Babylon International FZE, the organisers
of the event said, “The presence of airports and government representatives
from within Iraq and the region along with suppliers of repute makes the event
a must attend, as Iraqi aviation sector is experiencing a boom. Through the

معرض المطارات العراقي بصفته الراعي البلاتيني

ليومين متتاليين وبحضور مُلفت من السلطات وقادة الصناعة.

أكّد كل من خطوط أزمر الجوية ومطار أربيل الدولي أكدت مشاركتهما
في معرض المطارات العراقية عن بفصتهما راعيين بلاتيني وذهبي على التوالي. ينظّم الحدث
منطقة بابل الدولية الحرة بالتعاون مع مطار السليمانية كمضيف.
يخطط العراق
لبناء مطار جديد ويواصل عمليات التوسيع، إذ إنّ البلد يسعى إلى إحياء صناعة السياحة
واجتذاب السياح. ومن جهتها، ستكشف الحكومة عن قائمة مقاولين في أقرب وقت لمحاولة لبدء
عمليات بناء المطار في مدينة كربلاء جنوب بغداد، بتكلفة 2.5 مليار دولار، وسيكون أكبر
مشروع في البلاد يستوعب نحو 20 مليون مسافر سنوياً. إضافة إلى ذلك، هناك خطط
لإنشاء مطارات جديدة في محافظات دهوك والموصل، فيما يجري حالياّ تجديد محطات في بغداد
والبصرة والنجف والبدء قريباً بتوسيع محطة في أربيل والسليمانية.
وفي هذا
السياق، يصرّح بَكر سعيد توفيق، مدير عام خطوط أزمر الجوية، قائلاً: "نحن سعداء
لدعم هذا الحدث الفخم في السليمانية. فاقليم كردستان هو الوجهة لكلّ مَن يريد العمل
فيه أو إلى المجيء للعراق بقصد العمل أو السياحة". فقج وجدت الشركة مكاناً
مهماً في سوق الطيران العراقي خلال خمس سنوات فقط من إدارة العمليات وهي تسعى إلى التطوير
أكثر فأكثر. وتعدّ خطوط أزمر الجوية شركة الطيران الكردية الوحيدة التي تعمل في العراق،
وقد اكتسبت مكانةً مهمة في السوق بفضل هذه تفرّد دور المنطقة التي تُعتبر بوابةً إلى
العراق.
أما تلار
فائق، مديرة عام مطار أربيل الدولي، فأعربت عن رأيها قائلةً: "استمرّ مطار أربيل
الدولي في النمو في العام 2014 بصفته أحد أهمّ المعالم الجديدة لنقل الركاب والبضائع
وحركة الطيران. وسننجز قريباً توسيع محطة جديدة أيضاً. كما أننا مُلزّمون بالمشاركة
في معرض المطارات التي تَجري أحداثه في إقليم كردستان، وسنستغلّ هذه الفرصة
لاستكشاف موردين جدد. فقد توسّع ونما معرض مطارات العراق نمواً هائلاً، ومن الجيد أن
يحتضن في نظراء وقادة مهمين ويقوم باتصالات جديدة".
والجدير بالذكر أنّ لجنة تحكيم دولية في الأسواق الناشئة في مطار دبي قد
صوّتت لمطار أربيل الدولي كأفضل مطار بين الأسواق الناشئة للمطارات بأقلّ من خمسة ملايين
راكب سنوياً في كل من أفريقيا والشرق الأوسط وآسيا. ومن هذه الصيغة، أضافت فائق:
"نحن نشعر حقاً بالامتنان لشركائنا في الطيران الذين وجدوا مقدرة في أربيل
وكردستان لما يمكنهما أن يوفرا، ونتطلّع إلى الترحيب بالمزيد من الخطوط الجوية في الوقت
المناسب وحسب الطلب لنمو الرحلات الجوية وتوسيع نمو الاقتصاد الكردي الديناميكي."
من جهته، صرّح رام المثيا، مدير عام منطقة بابل الدولية الحرّة ومنظم الحدث
قائلاً: " "إنّ
وجود ممثّلي المطارات والحكومة والموردين يجعل الحدث مهماً ويجب حضوره لأنّ قطاع
العراق للطيران يشهد ازدهاراً واسعاً لمطارات العراق وبفضل هذا المعرض سنقوم
بإيصال الممثلين الرئيسيين في الصناعة إلى سلّم الربح في سوق الطيران الناشئ في
البلاد".
