Licensing of 500 marine crafts, issuance of
250 driving licenses reported as of Q4 2013

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has revealed that the Marine Craft Licensing Services launched in Q4 2013 are gaining popularity across Dubai. The services represent the first step in implementing Resolution No. 11 of 2013 covering the Implementing Regulations (IR) of Resolution No. 11 of 2010 for licensing marine crafts in the emirate of Dubai. The initiative supports efforts to create a vibrant and secure maritime sector in line with the Maritime Sector Strategy aimed at developing, organizing and promoting the local maritime industry to help position Dubai as a first-class global maritime hub.
The new services facilitate the licensing
process for marine vessel owners via a single point agency, the DMCA, instead
of through several authorities. The streamlined licensing of recreational,
commercial, sports, tourism and traditional marine crafts in Dubai’s
territorial waters forms part of a
comprehensive regulatory framework for ensuring the eventual integration of
maritime safety, secure navigation and operational efficiency strategies along
the emirate’s coastline. Around 500
marine crafts of different types are currently registered in the area.

secure maritime environment capable of attracting regional and international
investments to position Dubai as a premier global maritime hub. We highly

The Marine Craft Driving License Services
are also seeing unprecedented turnout from users, with 250 licenses issued so
far and the figure expected to climb further throughout this year.
“Through this set of services, we will be
issuing licenses for all types of marine crafts and crew upon verifying their
compliance with Dubai’s technical specifications, local maritime safety systems
and environment-friendly requirements within a world-class environment that
meets international standards. It will also cover the issuance of relevant
resolutions and regulations governing nautical activities in territorial waters
– including water craft re-fuelling, diving, rescue missions, and marine
trans-shipments,” concluded Ali Al Dabbous, Executive Director of Operations,
Dubai Maritime City Authority.
