- Oracle
Academy has completed a country-wide training programme in partnership
with the the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of
Egypt (MCIT) as part of its Tech Home community initiative.
- The Tech Home project has been implemented by the MCIT to deliver computer science education to students who have little access to technology facilities. Many of the students have no computers or computer labs in schools and the initiative has been designed to ensure students have the opportunity to learn - and be inspired - about technology.
- MCIT staff ran Alice workshops in summer schools for 1,400 students in libraries and community centres in towns across Egypt.
- Some of the Egyptian districts included Kalyoubia, which had 95 students at the workshops, Luxor with 118 students and Cairo which attracted 85 trainee students.
- The project has particularly benefited students between the ages of 12 and 18 who would otherwise be excluded from IT education due to a lack of local teachers or infrastructure in their schools.
- “The Oracle Academy is delighted to see this continued investment in computer science skills by the MICT and to actively encourage students to participate in the Alice training,” said Jane Richardson, EMEA Director, Oracle Academy. “For students this is the start of their ascent up the Java skills ladder and potentially an interest in pursuing computer science further in school and in higher education. The global IT skill gap is well documented and the commitment shown by the MCIT to empower youth to gain early access to Java programming skills is visionary.”
- Oracle is now working closley with the MCIT to agree further training sessions on Alice and Greenfoot for their staff in September 2013. These sessions will in turn increase student training across the region.
- Alice and Greenfoot are two development environments that support early computer science learning for young students.
- Alice is a platform designed to teach students object-oriented programming by engaging them in something fun by making animated movies and games and by dragging and dropping graphic tiles that contain standard Java programming statements.
- Students can create programs to animate 3-D objects that populate a virtual world. They can run their programs immediately and see the relationship between the programming statements and the behavior of objects in their animations.
- Suitable for students aged 8-22 and downloaded more than a million times a year, Alice is the subject of 11 textbooks. Through Alice, students gain experience with all the constructs typically addressed in an introductory programming course.
- After Alice, Greenfoot forms the next rung on the learning ladder. Greenfoot is an integrated development environment (IDE) suitable for students aged 14-25 and the only tool available today that teaches standard Java in a visual manner. Students write standard Java syntax to create games, simulations and applications, while visualization tools allow them to see their programs executed graphically so they can immediately confirm their code works.
- Technology is an important aspect of Egypt’s future and the use of ICT tools has spread around the country. Egypt’s ICT sector is now a principal component of the national economy, a key driver of development, and a catalyst for greater efficiency and performance across key sectors.
- “The MCIT has supported and encouraged this progress through various programs and initiatives,” said Wafaa Hassan, Business Development Consultant at the MCIT. “Our goal is to train 1500 students every month, and hold one class in each governorate. Further training of MCIT and community teachers will start in October 2013. By continuing to work with Oracle, the Ministry can ensure that future generations receive the vital computer science training they need.”

قامت
أكاديمية أوراكل بالشراكة مع وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات في مصر
بعقد برنامج تدريبي على مستوى الدولة، وذلك كجزء من مبادرة الوزارة
المجتمعية "بيت التكنولوجيا"، والتي تم تنفيذها من قبل الوزارة لضمان تعليم
علوم الحاسب للطلاب الذين لا يملكون المرافق التكنولوجية سواء في التعليم
أو خارجه.
وقد
صممت المبادرة خصيصا لضمان حصول الطلاب الذين لا يملكون أجهزة الحاسب أو
معامل الحاسب في مدارسهم على فرصة تعلم المزيد عن التكنولوجيا كمصدر ملهم.
وقام عدد من موظفي وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات بعقد ورش عمل في
مدارس صيفية لأكثر من 1400 طالب وطالبة في مكتبات ومراكز اجتماعية بالعديد
من المدن في جميع أرجاء مصر، منها القليوبية، حيث عقدت ورش عمل لـ 95 طالب؛
والأقصر، حيث عقدت ورش عمل لـ 118 طالب؛ والقاهرة، والتي جذبت 85 طالب
متدرب لورش العمل.
وعاد
المشروع بالنفع على الطلاب ما بين 12 و 18 عاما بالتحديد والذين قد لا
يحصلون على أي تعليم تكنولوجي غير هذه الورش بسبب نقص المعلمين المحليين أو
البنية الأساسية بمدارسهم.

على ذلك، قالت جاين ريتشاردسون، مديرة أكاديمية أوراكل، أوروبا والشرق

للاشتراك في هذه التدريبات. فبالنسبة للطلاب، هذه بداية صعودهم لسلم مهارات
الجافا ومن المحتمل أن يحفز ذلك على الاهتمام بعلوم الحاسب بشكل أكبر في
المدارس والجامعات. فالجميع على دراية بالفجوة الكبيرة في مهارات تكنولوجيا
المعلومات عالميا، ويعد التزام وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات في
مصر بتمكين الطلاب من الحصول على مهارات برمجة الجافا مبكرا أمرا هائلا."
تعمل
أوراكل حاليا بالتنسيق مع وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات على
الاتفاق على عقد ورش عمل مستقبلية من نوع "أليس" و "جرينفوت"، واللتان
تدعمان التعليم المبكر لعلوم الحاسب للطلاب الصغار، لموظفي الوزارة في
سبتمبر 2013، والتي سوف تقوم بدورها بزيادة تدريب الطلاب في المنطقة.
وتضيف
هنا وفاء حسن، مستشارة تطوير الاعمال في وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا
المعلومات: "لقد قامت وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات بدعم وتشجيع
هذا التقدم من خلال العديد من البرامج والمبادرات. فهدفنا هو تدريب 1500
طالب وطالبة شهريا، وعقد ورشة عمل واحدة في كل محافظة. وستبدأ مرحلة من
التدريب الممتد لكل من الوزارة والمعلمين في أكتوبر 2013. فبالاستمرار في
العمل مع أوراكل، ستضمن الوزارة أن الاجيال الصاعدة تتلقى تدريب علوم
الحاسب الأساسي الذي يحتاجونه."
من
خلال هذه الورش، تتيح ورشة عمل "أليس"، والتي تلائم الطلاب من سن 8 حتى 22
سنة، الفرصة للتعلم عن برمجة الأغراض المتحركة، عن طريق إشراك الطلبة في
نشاطات مسلية تعطيهم معلومات وتجارب عن بيانات جافا للبرمجة. ثم تأتي ورشة
عمل "جرينفوت" والتي توفر بيئة تنموية متكاملة تصلح للطلاب من سن 14 إلى 22
سنة لتعلم مهارات جافا الأساسية بطريقة مرئية.
وفي
المجمل، تعد التكنولوجيا عامل هام لمستقبل مصر ولاستخدام أدوات تكنولوجيا
المعلومات عبر الدولة. فيعتبر قطاع تكنولوجيا المعلومات والحاسب مكون أساسي
في الاقتصاد المصري، ومحرك رئيسي للتنمية، ومحفز للمزيد من الكفاءة
والفعالية عبر القطاعات المختلفة.
