4th International Holcim Awards seeks projects and visions that contribute to a more sustainable built environment
The Holcim Awards is one of the most significant competitions in its field in terms of reputation and international scope. The fourth cycle of the competition offering a total of USD 2 million in prize money is now open for entries. The competition seeks leading projects from industry professionals and bold ideas from the “Next Generation” that contribute to sustainability within architecture, building, civil engineering, landscape and urban design, as well as construction materials and technologies.
The Holcim Awards is open to architects, planners, engineers, project owners, builders and construction firms that showcase sustainable responses to technological, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues with contemporary building and construction. Projects must have reached an advanced stage of design, have a high probability of execution, and must not have started construction before July 1, 2013. The competition also seeks visionary projects and bold ideas for the “Next Generation” category from young professionals and students aged between 18 and 30 years of age.
Organized by the Swiss-based Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction the competition is conducted simultaneously in five regions of the world in 2013/14 followed by a global phase in 2015. Regional winners will be announced at Holcim Awards ceremonies in late 2014 in Moscow (for region Europe), Toronto (North America), Medellín (Latin America), Beirut (Africa Middle East) and Jakarta (Asia Pacific).

The Holcim Awards are perceived as a highlight in the sustainable development agenda and ranks amongst the top competitions for building and construction in the world”.
The Holcim Awards is conducted in partnership with some of the world’s leading technical universities which host the jury meetings. Independent jury panels of experts will evaluate all entries against the five “target issues” for sustainable construction which cover economic, social and environmental performance as well as contextual/aesthetic impact, and innovation/transferability.

افتتاح باب المشاركة في مسابقة المليوني دولار للبناء المستدام
تم افتتاح باب المشاركة في النسخة الرابعة من مسابقة هولسيم للبناء المستدام "هولسيم أوارد" التي تقدّم لرابحيها جوائز مالية بقيمة مليوني دولار أميركي. وهي مسابقة عالمية تكرّم المشاريع المبتكرة والأفكار المبدعة على المستويين الإقليمي والعالمي. كما تسعى المسابقة إلى استقطاب المشاريع الرائدة من المتخصصين في مجال البناء المستدام والأفكار الجريئة من "الجيل القادم" التي تساهم في تعزيز مبدأ الاستدامة ضمن المشاريع المعمارية، والهندسة المدنية، وهندسة الحدائق، والتصميم الحضري، إضافة إلى مواد البناء والتقنيات المستخدمة.
صممت جوائز هولسيم العالمية، التي تشرف عليها مؤسسة هولسيم للبناء المستدام، بهدف تشجيع المهندسين المدنيين والمعماريين والمخططين وأصحاب المشاريع والبنائين وشركات البناء التي تتجاوب مع القضايا التكنولوجية والبيئية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية من خلال إيجاد الحلول المستدامة ضمن منظومة البناء المعاصرة. ومن شروط الاشتراك أن تكون المشاريع قد بلغت مرحلة متقدمة من التصميم، أو من احتمال تنفيذها، ولم يبدأ تشييدها قبل الأول من تموز 2013. كما تبحث المسابقة عن المشاريع ذات رؤية لإدخالها ضمن فئة "الجيل القادم" التي يشارك فيها المهنيون الشباب والطلاب الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 و30 سنة. وسيتم الإعلان عن الفائزين في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا في أواخر العام 2014 في العاصمة اللبنانية بيروت.
وحول الموضوع، قالت غريس العازار، منسقة جوائز هولسيم في لبنان: "من الواضح أن المباني المستدامة أصبحت الأساس لتأمين السلامة البيئية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية على المدى الطويل. وتعتبر جوائز هولسيم حدثاً بارزاً على جدول أعمال التنمية المستدامة وتصنّف من بين أهم المسابقات في العالم المتخصصة في قطاع البناء والتشييد".
تعمل لجنة تحكيم مستقلة تتألف من أمهر الخبراء في هذا القطاع على تقييم كل المشاريع المقدّمة من مختلف الجامعات التقنية الرائدة حول العالم بالاستناد إلى خمس " مسائل" تتعلق بالبناء المستدام وتغطي الأداء الاقتصادي، والاجتماعي، والبيئي، إضافة إلى الوقع الجمالي الذي يتركه البناء مقارنة مع السياق الذي يقع فيه، ومدى الابتكار وقابلية االتكرار.
