UAE, July 29, 2013 - Frank Courtney, Barloworld Logistics Chief Executive for the EMEA region, recently highlighted new trends in the global logistics and supply chain industry to the M.Sc in Logistics class of University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). Courtney’s presentation, which covered a comprehensive overview of the various elements of supply chain and logistics, was made during a guest lecture held at the university and attended by more than 40 students and faculty members.
The presentation began by tracing Barloworld’s 112 year history and sustained growth over the years, and its current focus on ‘smart supply chain’. Courtney pointed out that Barloworld has been committed to establishing smart partnerships and holistically understanding the supply chain needs of its clients before creating customised solutions to address these requirements. The underlining goal is to drive productivity, profitability and performance of clients on a sustained basis.
A key element of the presentation was the importance of innovation in supply chain. Courtney shared that in the current trade and business landscape, entrepreneurship and collaboration were the two key drivers of innovation.
During the lecture, Courtney also announced the September launch of Barloworld Logistics’ much anticipated GCC supplychainforesight survey 2013. The aim of supplychainforesight surveys is to help countries, companies and individuals to keep abreast with and adapt to the changing dynamics and demands of today’s global market place and to embrace the reality that continuous innovation is vital to achieving sustainable competitive advantage. In fact, innovation is key to survival. This GCC logistics study is aimed at understanding what the leaders of logistics in the Middle East are focusing on and what they believe are the challenges and opportunities for their businesses. Even though Barloworld has been successfully conducting similar foresight surveys in South Africa for the past 11 years, it is the first time that such a study is being carried out in this region.

His extremely informative and interesting presentation gave our students a totally new perspective of the logistics and supply chain sectors, which they would not have found in any text books or study materials. We believe that such lectures from industry experts that we regularly organise will go a long way in helping our students get a comprehensive, well-rounded understanding of the rapidly evolving logistics domain.”
Courtney concluded his presentation by pointing out how a fast growing global population and factors such as draining natural resources and climate change could impact future generations and the massive impact that will have on supply chains of the future. Supply Chains will have to be more agile and responsive than ever before. He also touched upon the advantages that companies stand to gain by outsourcing their logistics operations to established players such as Barloworld Logistics, including better cost & operational efficiency, greater reliability and flexibility, improved geographical coverage and reduced risks.

المدير التنفيذي لشركة "بارلوورلد لوجيستكس" يسلط الضوء على أحدث مستجدات إدارة سلاسل التوريد أمام طلبة جامعة ولونغونغ في دبي
الإمارات، 29 يوليو، 2013- قدم فرانك كورتني، المدير التنفيذي لشركة "بارلوورلد لوجيستكس" (Barloworld Logistics)، في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا، عرضاً تقديمياً أمام طلبة درجة الماجستير في العلوم اللوجستية بجامعة ولونغونغ في دبي (UOWD). وتناول العرض التقديمي أحدث مستجدات إدارة سلاسل التوريد، حيث قدم كورتني لمحة عامة حول مختلف عناصر سلسلة التوريد وقطاع الخدمات اللوجستية، وذلك خلال محاضرة استضافتها الجامعة مؤخراً بحضور نحو 40 من الطلبة وأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية.
وبدأ كورتني المحاضرة بسردٍ لتاريخ "بارلوورلد لوجيستكس" العريق الذي يمتد لما يزيد عن 112 عاماً وسجلها الحافل في مجال توفير حلول الخدمات اللوجستية وإدارة سلسلة الإمداد. وأشار كورتني في عرضه إلى أنّ "بارلوورلد" كانت ولا تزال ملتزمة بعقد سلسلة من الشراكات الإستراتيجية مع مختلف الجهات الفاعلة في القطاع والإطلاع عن كثب على إحتياجات العملاء قبل إطلاق حلول مخصصة تلبي إحتياجاتهم. كما أوضح المدير التنفيذي للشركة أنّ الهدف الرئيس لـ "بارلوورلد" هو تعزيز مستويات الإنتاجية وربحية وأداء العملاء بصورة مستدامة. كما شدد كورتني خلال العرض التقديمي على أهمية تفعيل عنصر الإبتكار في سلاسل التوريد، موضحاً أنّ عاملي روح المبادرة والتعاون يعدان من أبرز العوامل المحفزة للإبتكار والإبداع في عالم الأعمال اليوم.
ولفت كورتني إلى أنّ الشركة ستقوم في شهر سبتمبر/ أيلول المقبل بالإفصاح عن نتائج دراستها حول مستقبل سلاسل التوريد في دول الخليج العربي للعام 2013، حيث تهدف مثل هذه الدراسات إلى تمكين الأفراد والشركات من مواكبة التغيرات الطارئة على السوق العالمية اليوم وإدراك حقيقة أنّ الإبتكار المتواصل هو أمر محوري لتعزيز القدرة التنافسية والإحتفاظ بها بصفة مستدامة، لأنّ الإبتكار هو مفتاح النجاة. كما أشار كورتني إلى أنّ الدراسة تهدف أيضاً إلى الإطلاع على أهداف وخطط وإستراتيجيات رواد قطاع الخدمات اللوجستية في الشرق الأوسط وحجم ونوعية التحديات التي يواجهونها والفرص المتاحة أمام شركاتهم. وقد حققت الشركة نجاحاً كبيراً خلال السنوات الـ 11 الماضية في إجراء دراسات من هذه النوعية، وهي أول مرة تُجرى فيها دراسة من هذه النوعية في المنطقة.
وقال الدكتور بالان سندركاني، أستاذ مساعد ومدير برنامج درجة الماجستير في كلية الأعمال والإدارة بجامعة ولونغونغ بدبي: "نتقدم بالشكر الجزيل إلى فرانك كورتني على مداخلته الطيبة والمحاضرة القيّمة التي ألقاها أمام طلبتنا. وبفضل عرضه التقديمي التثقيفي، تمكن طلبة جامعة ولونغونغ في دبي من الحصول على رؤى قيمة والإطلاع على أحدث القضايا والمستجدات الطارئة في قطاع الخدمات اللوجستية وإدارة سلاسل التوريد والتي يصعب عليهم إستيفاؤها من المقررات والمناهج الدراسية. ونعتقد أنّ مثل هذه المحاضرات الملقاة من قبل نخبة من المسؤولين المخضرمين والخبراء في قطاع الخدمات اللوجستية ستلعب دوراً محورياً في مساعدة الطلبة على الإحاطة بتحديات وفرص ومستجدات قطاع الخدمات اللوجستية الذي يشهد مستويات نمو جيدة اليوم."
واختتم كورتني عرضه التقديمي بالإشارة إلى التأثير الكبير لمجموعة من العوامل الرئيسية مثل النمو السكاني العالمي واستنزاف الموارد الطبيعية وتغير المناخ، على سلاسل التوريد في المستقبل. ولفت كورتني إلى أنّه يتوجب أن تتميز سلاسل التوريد بمرونة أكبر لتجاوز هذه التحديات، وأنّ المزايا العديدة التي ستحصل عليها الشركات نظير تعهيد عملياتها اللوجستية إلى شركات لها وزنها بالقطاع من أمثال "بارلوورلد لوجيستكس، ستكون عديدة ومجزية بما في ذلك كفاءة تشغيلية عالية وتكاليف أقل وموثوقية ومرونة عاليتين وتغطية جغرافية أوسع إلى جانب إنخفاض في حجم المخاطر.
يشار إلى أنّ الكفاءات الأساسية التي تتمتع بها شركة "بارلوورلد لوجيستكس" تشتمل على كافة الوظائف التقليدية لسلسلة الإمداد والعمليات اللوجستية، بدءاً من إعداد الطلب وحلول الشحن والتخليص والمخزون، مروراً بالمشتريات وخدمات النقل المتخصصة ووصولاً إلى خدمات إدارة النقل والتخزين والتوزيع. وتم تزويد مكاتب الشركة في الشرق الأوسط برخص التخليص والتصديق الجمركي، إلى جانب تخصيص مكاتب للمبيعات والتسويق ومستودعات، بما يصب في مصلحة تعزيز شاراكاتها مع خطوط الشحن وشركات الطيران. كما تملك الشركة ثلاثة مخازن بطاقة استيعابية إجمالية تبلغ أكثر من 13,000 منصة نقالة تخزين، والتي يمكنها تخزين البضائع الجافة، بالإضافة إلى البضائع والشحنات ذات الطبيعة الحساسة للحرارة التي تتراوح من 18 إلى 25 درجة.
