Latest edition of Middle East’s premiere wood and wood machinery exhibition attracts 7,000 visitors

This year’s edition of the ‘Dubai International Wood & Wood Machinery Show’ (Dubai WoodShow), the regional landmark event for wood trade and investment, which ran from April 9 to April 11, 2013 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), ended on a high note with over USD 100 million in reported sales during its exciting three-day run. According to Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions, the event’s organizers, the show posted an attendance of 7,000. 'Dubai WoodShow 2013' lived up to its reputation of providing a strategic platform for communication and development on the latest wood industry products and suppliers, while at the same time also giving participants and exhibitors the opportunity to explore new markets and help maintain relations with existing clients.
Dubbed as the largest ‘Dubai WoodShow’ ever, the event’s opening was graced by visiting foreign dignitaries that included the DWS honoured guest, H.E. Ngole Philip Ngwese, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife for Cameroon; H.E. Henry Djombo, Minister of Sustainable Development, Forest Economy and Environment for the Republic of Congo; Mariteuw Chimère Ndiaw, Executive Officer, African Model Forest Network and Franz-Josef Bütfering, President, EUMABOIS. The show, which was 35 per cent bigger in terms of exhibitor participation and exhibition floor space, aimed towards complementing the industry’s continuing efforts towards encouraging the use of more wood in further keeping with green and sustainable building and construction practices. As with its previous editions, 'Dubai WoodShow 2013' featured 12 international pavilions hosted by participating countries like the United States, Canada, Germany, France, China, Malaysia, Cameroon and Congo, to name a few.
"We were highly impressed by the display of technology, the massive presence of major companies and the numerous interactions and stakeholders of the industry at this year’s event,” said H.E. Ngole Philip Ngwese. "Participating at ‘Dubai WoodShow’ has allowed us the opportunity to showcase Cameroon's large wood market, which includes 300 different species of trees out of which 60 are being used. I am glad that we have created opportunities for wood transformation and have also increased our contact list of potential investors to Cameroon.”
One of the main highlights of ‘Dubai WoodShow 2013’ was a special seminar focusing on the various possibilities to be gained from building with wood. The seminar covered four timely topics, which included the use of wood as a building material in the GCC; wood as a design component of architectural projects; the current state of wood use in the GCC and timber legality. During the day-long seminar, special presentations were made by representatives from the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology; the Malaysian Timber Certification Council; Quebec Wood Export Bureau; Dubai Municipality; Dubai Central Laboratory and the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).
“’Dubai WoodShow 2013’ was a complete success. This year’s event has so far, generated over USD 100 million in sales, let alone the new partnerships and opportunities created among the exhibitors and potential clients that visited during the show’s three-day run. معرض دبي الدولي للأخشاب 2013 يشهد صفقات تتعدى المئة مليون دولار أمريكي

إختُتِمت مؤخراً الدورة الثامنة من "معرض دبي الدولي للأخشاب ومكائن الأخشاب "، الحدث الأبرز على مستوى المنطقة في تجارة الأخشاب والاستثمار بها، والذي استمر على مدى ثلاثة أيام من 9 الى 11 أبريل الجاري على أرض مركز دبي الدولي للمؤتمرات والمعارض. وشهد الحدث اتمام صفقات بقيمة تتعدى المئة مليون دولار أمريكي، وسط حضور هائل لأكثر من 7 آلاف زائر. وقدّم المعرض منصّةً استراتيجية هامّة للتواصل وتطوير صناعة الأخشاب وتوريدها. كما فتح آفاقاً واسعة للمشاركين والعارضين لسبر أغوار الأسواق الجديدة وتوطيد العلاقات القوية مع العملاء الحاليين.
وشارك في دورة هذا العام نخبة من كبار الشخصيات الأجنية، على رأسهم معالي نغول فيليب نغويز، وزير الغابات والحياة البرية الكاميروني، بصفته ضيف شرف، بالاضافة الى معالي هنري دجومبو، وزير التنمية المستدامة والاقتصاد والغابات والبيئة بجمهورية الكونغو، وماريتيو شيميري نيدياو، مسؤول تنفيذي في الشبكة الأفريقية النموذجية للغابات، وفرانز جوزيف بوتفيرنغ، رئيس مجموعة "الإتحاد الأوروبي لمصنعي مكائن الأخشاب"، وغيرهم من أبرز الوفود الزائرة الى الدولة.
وأفادت شركة "الإستراتيجي للتسويق وتنظيم المعارض والمؤتمرات" المنظمة للحدث بأنّ "معرض دبي الدولي للأخشاب ومكائن الأخشاب 2013" شهد نموا كبيراُ بنسبة 35 بالمائة مقارنةً بدورة العام الماضي، وذلك من حيث عدد الشركات العارضة والمساحة الإجمالية المخصّصة للعرض. كما أشارت الى أن تنظيم هذا الحدث جاء إستكمالا للجهود المبذولة في سبيل تشجيع استخدام الأخشاب بما يتناسب مع ممارسات البناء المستدام والأبنية الخضراء الصديقة للبيئة. واستضاف المعرض 12 جناحاً دولياً لعدد من الدول المشاركة، من بينها الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا وألمانيا وفرنسا والصين وماليزيا والكاميرون والكونغو.
وأشاد معالي نغول فيليب نغويز، وزير الغابات والحياة البرية الكاميروني، بالحلول التكنولوجية المتطورة التي استعرضها الحدث في دورته هذا العام، وسط حضور لافت من كبريات الشركات وأصحاب المصالح في القطاع. وأردف قائلاً: "إن المشاركة في "معرض دبي للأخشاب" قد اتاحت لنا فرصة ممتازة لتسليط الضوء على السوق الكاميرونية للأخشاب والتي تتضمن 300 نوع مختلف من الأشجار، يتم إستخدام 60 منها حالياً. كما نهدف من مشاركتنا أيضاً الوقوف على إمكانيات تحويل الأخشاب وإستخدامها في شتى المجالات، فضلاً عن تعزيز معارفنا والتواصل مع نخبة من المستثمرين الراغبين بالدخول إلى السوق الكاميرونية."
وأقيم على هامش المعرض ندوةً متخصّصةً تناولت المزايا التي يمكن الحصول عليها عند إستخدام الأخشاب في أعمال البناء والتشييد. وركّزت الندوة على أربعة محاور رئيسية هي: الخشب بإعتباره مادة بناء في منطقة الخليج العربي، والخشب بإعتباره عنصر تصميم في مشروعات الهندسة المعمارية، والاستخدام الحالي للأخشاب في منطقة الخليج، والاستخدام الشرعي للأخشاب. وتخلل الندوة مشاركات قيّمة وعروض تقديمية لممثلين عن "هيئة الإمارات للمواصفات والمقاييس"، و"المجلس الماليزي لإصدار شهادات الأخشاب"، و"مكتب تصدير الأخشاب في كيبيك"، و"بلدية دبي"، و"مختبر دبي المركزي"، و"المجلس الأمريكي لتصدير الأخشاب الصلبة".
ومن جهته، نوّه داوود الشيزاوي، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة الإستراتيجي لتنظيم المعارض والمؤتمرات، بالنجاح الكبير الذي حققه المعرض، مضيفاً: "شهد الحدث هذا العام صفقات بيع تزيد على 100 مليون دولار أمريكي، ناهيكم عن الشراكات والعلاقات الجديدة التي نشأت بين العارضين والعملاء المحتملين على مدى الأيام الثلاثة للمعرض. ونحن سعداء بالإقبال الكبير الذي تلقيناه للمشاركة في الفعاليات المتعددة للمعرض والتي شملت مساحة عرض أكبر حجماً وعدداً من الندوات الإستراتيجية والفعاليات التواصلية الهامة. كما سبق وبدأنا إستقبال الحجوزات المسبقة للدورة المقبلة والتي نعد أن تكون أكثر تميزاً ودعماً لالتزامنا المطرد بتعزيز إستخدام الخشب كمادة أساسية في البناء والتصميم."
