UAE, March 8, 2015 – The University of Salford, UK, will partner with the Abu Dhabi Police to introduce a new juvenile rehabilitation scheme and therapeutic model at Mafraq Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre in Abu Dhabi.
The University was selected to partner with Abu Dhabi Police following an international search of potential partners and a competitive tendering process. With a team drawn from the University’s School of Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work and Social Science and the Centre for Prison Studies, the University brings internationally renowned expertise in the areas of criminology, sociology, psychology, social work and juvenile rehabilitation leadership and management.
The contract was signed late last month by Maj. Gen. Khalil D. Badran, Director General Financial and Services General Directorate and Mr Andrew Hampson, Associate Dean for Business and Enterprise at the University of Salford.
The University team of academics, researchers and juvenile rehabilitation practitioners will work with the Mafraq Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre management and staff to introduce an innovative therapeutic model to support the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders back in to society. New strategies, policies and operating procedures will be introduced along with a comprehensive support programme of staff mentoring and training. The scheme will be benchmarked against World Health Organisation standards and international good practice.
Her Majesty's Ambassador (HMA) Philip Parham, British Ambassador to United Arab Emirates, said: “I am delighted that world class British experience and expertise is being shared with our Emirati partners in this important area.”
Andrew Hampson from the University of Salford, said: “It is a huge privilege and honour to work with the Abu Dhabi Police and the team at Mafraq Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre. We are focused on and committed to developing a caring and supportive rehabilitation system that sees young people from the Centre successfully reintegrate in to society.”
The partnership with Abu Dhabi Police follows the opening of a new University of Salford representative office in Abu Dhabi in May 2014. The University has announced plans for a portfolio of postgraduate and professional programmes, new educational and industry partnerships, collaborative projects and research initiatives, developed in close consultation with industry and government in Abu Dhabi.
The University is focused on helping to drive the development of public and private-sector skills within Abu Dhabi to meet the demands of the 2030 Economic Vision. The new suite of programmes will cover areas in which the University has an international reputation for excellence: the built environment, business, energy, healthcare, media and digital, and science and technology.

عقدت "جامعة سالفورد" البريطانية اتفاقية شراكة مع شرطة أبوظبي من أجل طرح برنامج ونموذج علاجي جديد لإعادة تأهيل الأحداث في مركز رعاية الأحدث بالمفرق في أبوظبي.
وتم اختيار "جامعة سالفورد" للشراكة مع شرطة أبوظبي بعد إجراء عملية تقييم دولية للشركاء المحتملين وإجراء مناقصة تنافسية بهذا الشأن. وستقدم الجامعة من خلال فريق عمل يضم أعضاءً من كلية التمريض والقبالة والعمل الاجتماعي والعلوم الاجتماعية ومركز دراسات السجون، خبرتها المعروفة عالمياً في مجالات علم الجريمة وعلم الاجتماع وعلم النفس والقيادة والإدارة في مجال إعادة تأهيل الأحداث.
وتم توقيع الاتفاقية مؤخراً من قبل اللواء خليل بدران، مدير عام المالية والخدمات في القيادة العامة لشرطة أبوظبي؛ وآندرو هامبسون، مساعد العميد لشؤون الأعمال والشركات في "جامعة سالفورد".
وسيعمل فريق الجامعة من الأكاديميين والباحثين ومختصي رعاية الأحداث مع إدارة وموظفي مركز رعاية الأحداث بالمفرق من أجل تقديم نموذج علاجي مبتكر لدعم عمليات إعادة تأهيل الأحداث الجانحين ودمجهم في المجتمع من جديد. وسيتم إدخال استراتيجيات وسياسات وإجراءات تشغيلية جديدة إلى جانب برنامج دعم شامل لتوجيه وتدريب الموظفين، حيث سيجري تطبيق هذا البرنامج وفقاً لمعايير منظمة الصحة العالمية وأفضل الممارسات الدولية المتبعة في هذا المجال.
وقال فيليب بارهام، السفير البريطاني لدى دولة الإمارات: "يسعدني أن تتم الاستفادة من الخبرات رفيعة المستوى للمملكة المتحدة في هذا المجال المهم من قبل شركائنا الإماراتيين".
من جانبه، قال هامبسون: "إنه لشرف كبير لنا أن نتعاون مع شرطة أبوظبي وفريق عمل مركز رعاية الأحداث بالمفرق. ونحن ملتزمون بتقديم برنامج رعاية وإعادة تأهيل متطور يسهم بشكل جدي في إعادة دمج الأحداث من المركز في المجتمع من جديد".
وتأتي اتفاقية الشراكة مع شرطة أبوظبي في أعقاب افتتاح مكتب تمثيلي جديد لـ "جامعة سالفورد" في أبوظبي في شهر مايو/أيار من العام الماضي. وكانت الجامعة قد أعلنت عن خططها لطرح مجموعة من برامج الدراسات العاليا والتطوير المهني، بالإضافة إلى شراكات تعليمية ومتخصصة جديدة ومشاريع تعاونية ومبادرات بحثية تم إعدادها بالتشاور الوثيق مع القطاعات المعنية وحكومة أبوظبي.
وتركز "جامعة سالفورد" على المساهمة في دفع عملية تطوير المهارات في القطاعين العام والخاص في أبوظبي تماشياً مع متطلبات الرؤية الاقتصادية 2030. وستغطي المجموعة الجديدة من البرامج المجالات التي تحظى بها الجامعة بسمعة دولية متميزة ضمن قطاعات البيئة المبنية، والأعمال، والطاقة، والرعاية الصحية، والإعلام والتقنية الرقمية، والعلوم والتكنولوجيا.
