Cairo 17 December 2013 - Under the
auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and the European
Union, Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts launched today the second edition
of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival, which will take place in
Luxor between 19 and 25 January 2014.
Eighteen European countries are participating
in the festival with 62 films, including 35 films competing in the festival’s sections
for long and short feature films, which have been produced in the last year
between 2012 and 2013.
"The festival aims at fostering knowledge
and promoting awareness of the high quality cinematographic works produced in
the last year in Egypt and Europe", said Mohammed Kamel Al-Kalioubi, Film Director
and President of Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts. “We also hope that hosting
the festival in Luxor would contribute to supporting and attracting cultural tourism
to this historic city”, Al-Kalioubi added.
“The festival also hopes to deliver an
important message to the world by highlighting Egypt’s continued role in the
artistic life; and its positive contribution to keeping pace with the latest innovations
in the cinema industry, as well as in celebrating distinguished Egyptian and
European artists alike”, said Dr. Magda Wassef, Festival’s President and Noon
Foundation for Culture and Arts’ General Manager.
“This is in addition to establishing a platform
for Egyptian and European experts in the cinema industry to establish a
dialogue, exchange experiences and open markets for European films in Egypt and
for Egyptian films in Europe”, Wassef added
The Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival has chosen icon Egyptian poet Abdel Rahman Al-Abnoudi to be the ‘Honorary
President’ in its second edition. The Festival’s program in Luxor offers sections
for long and short films’ competitions, a dedicated wing for Egyptian classics;
in addition to a close up on the new ‘German Cinema’, and the ‘Independent
Egyptian Cinema’. This edition’s tributes will acknowledge Egyptian actor Nour
Al-Sherif and Russian director Vladimir Menshov, displaying some of their
select movies.
“This year, the festival chose to celebrate the
new German cinema, and will show eight important German films including
“Welcome to Germany” (2011), which has won five awards including the ’Gold
Award for the Best Script’ and the ‘Silver Award for the Best Long Feature Film’
in the German film competition in 2011”, commented Youssef Cherif Rizkalla, Cinema
Critic and the Festival’s Art Director.
“The festival will also highlight the
‘Independent Egyptian Cinema’ through eight movies: “The City” by Youssry
Nasrallah (1999), “Klefty” by Mohamed Khan (2003), “Basra” by Ahmed Rashwan
(2009), “The Winter of Discontent” by Ibrahim Battout (2012), “Chaos Disorder”
by Nadine Khan (2012), “Coming Forth by Day” by Hala Lotfy (2012), “Asham” by
Maggie Morgan (2012), “Rags and Tatters” by Ahmed Abdallah (2013)”, Rizkalla
added.
In tribute to Egyptian actor Nour Al-Sherif,
the festival will show some of his classics including “My Wife and The Dog” by
Saeed Marzouk, “The Era of Hatem Zahran” by Mohamed Al-Naggar, “Naji Al Ali”
and “Blazing Night” by Atef Al-Tayeb. This is in addition to the ‘Egyptian
Classics’, showing “Something of Fear” by Hussien Kamal (1968), “The Mummy” by
Shady Abdel Salam (1973), “The Necklace and The Bracelet” by Khairy Beshara
(1986), “Mohamed Bayoumi” by Mohamed Kamel Al Kaliouby (1992). It is worth
mentioning that Poet Abdel Rahman Al-Abnoudi has co-written the script for both
“Something of Fear” and “The Necklace and The Bracelet”.
Commenting on the sessions which will take
place at the Festival, Gamal Zayda, the General Secretary of Noon Foundation
for Culture and Arts said:” Highlighting the latest innovations in
cinematography is one the main objectives of this festival. Six sessions are
lined up to address the latest socio-political factors impacting the cinema
industry. These will include a round table with Egyptian Actor Nour El-Sherif; a
round table on the German cinema, as well as a round table on the
socio-political changes and the cinema, moderated by the political social
expert Nabil Abdel Fatah”.
The European countries participating in the Festival
include: France, Norway, Greece, Georgia, Spain, Serbia, Sweden, Russia,
Romania, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Britain, Estonia, Switzerland, and the
Netherlands.
Russian director Vladimir Menshov will head of the jury panel,
which also features French producer Lise Fayolle, Greek actress Katerina
Didaskalou, German actress Franziska Petri, Estonian Festival director Kadi
Lokk, Belgium producer Jacques Laurent and the Egyptian director of photography
Tarek Al Telmesany.
“Similar to last year, the people of
Luxor will actively participate in the Festival’s initiatives in its second
edition. Upper Egyptian women and young girls will prepare special bags for the
festival’s guests. Tourist guides and youth representing art schools and
universities as well as folkloric bands will also actively participate in the
festival’s program , " said Mr Wadid Shokri .

Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival
The
first edition of the Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival was launched
in September 2012. The Festival is organized by Noon Foundation for Culture and
Arts, and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the
Ministry of Youth, as well as the Ministry of State for Antiquities and the
European Union. The Festival’s main goal is to foster knowledge and promote
dissemination in Egypt of high quality cinematographic and audiovisual works
directed by Egyptian and European filmmakers. The Festival also seeks to

د . محمد كامل القليوبى هو مخرج
وسيناريست و أستاذ بالمعهد العالي للسينما بأكاديمية الفنون بالقاهرة . وهو حاصل
على بكالوريوس الهندسة المدنية جامعة عين شمس 1969 . ثم حصل على دبلوم الدراسات
العليا من المعهد العالى للسينما بالقاهرة تخصص سيناريو و إخراج عام 1972 و درجة
الدكتوراه من معهد السينما الإتحادى بموسكو (فجيك) عام 1986 .
قام بأول بحث أركيولوجى بتاريخ السينما أدى لاكتشاف
الأفلام الأولى لرائد السينما الأول محمد بيومى. كما قام بإخراج عدد من الأفلام
التسجيلية والروائية الطويلة من بينها"محمد بيومى ووقائع الزمن الضائع"
(فيلم التسجيلي - 1992) ، "ثلاثة على الطريق")روائى
طويل- 1993(،
"البحر بيضحك ليه" (روائى طويل - 1995) ، "جمال تموت الظلال ويحيا

1998 ، ثم مسلسل "بعد الطوفان" 2004 .
مارس النقد السينمائى ونشرت مقالاته فى عدد من الصحف
المصرية والعربية والأجنبية ، وصدرت له سبعة كتب عن السينما . شغل منصب رئيس
المركز القومى للسينما 1999-2001 ، و مقرر لجنة الفنون بمكتبة الأسكندرية
2004-2006 ، وعضو لجنة السينما بالمجلس الأعلى للثقافة . كما رأس مهرجان
الأسكندرية لسينما البحر المتوسط 2003 ، وشارك فى عضوية اللجنة العليا لمهرجان
القاهرة السينمائىالدولى 2006-2010 . بالاضافة الى عضوية ورئاسة عدد من لجان
التحكيم المحلية والدولية . حصل علي جائزة
الدولة التقديرية في 2012
Dr. Mohamed El-Kalioubi’s first degree was in Civil
Engineering. He studied cinema
at Cairo’s Higher Institute for Cinema before joining VIGIK in Moscow where he received
his PHD in 1986.
Screenwriter of his own movies, El-Kalioubi has directed three feature films: Three on the Road (Talata Al Tarik
– 1993); Adam’s Autumn (Kharif Adam – 2004); Why does the Sea Laugh? (El Bahr
BeyedhakLeh?-2005). He also directed numerous documentaries, including ‘Mohamed
Bayumi’, ‘Chronicle of a Lost Time’ and ‘Rosa El Youssef’ as well as
various television dramas.
El-Kalioubi’s first two films were awarded several national and international prizes;
and were also very successful at the box-office. El-Kalioubi also published seven books on cinema; and regularly writes articles in the Egyptian
media. He teaches screenwriting at Cairo’s Higher Institute for Cinema; and has
headed the Egyptian National Centre for Cinema from 1991 to 2001; and has
presided over the International Film Festival of Alexandria in 2003.
د. ماجدة واصف - مدير المؤسسة

د. ماجدة واصف هي ناقدة ومُؤرخة
للسينما العربية . حصلت على دكتوراه في السينما من جامعة السوربون في باريس سنة
1983 ، و نشرت العديد من الدراسات حول
السينما العربية في المطبوعات السينمائية العربية والفرنسية . عملت كناقدة
سينمائية مسئولة عن صفحات السينما بمجلة «المستقبل» في باريس من سنة 1978 حتى سنة
1988. ثم أسست وأدارت قسم السينما في معهد العالم العربي بباريس منذ سنة1988 حتى 2008، وأسست وأدارت مهرجان
السينما العربية في باريس وكانت المُفوضة العامة له من 1992 حتي 2006 تاريخ الدورة
الثامنة والأخيرة .
تتعاون كمُستشارة
فنية مع عددٍ من المهرجانات الدولية ، ومنها مهرجان كان السينمائي الدولي حيث قامت
بتنظيم احتفالية مصر ضيف شرف مهرجان كان في 2011 ، ومهرجان القاهرة السينمائي
الدولي ، الذي بدأت التعاون معه في 1985 كمراسلة من باريس ثم كعضو في المكتب الفني
للمهرجان حتى 2010 .
اشرفت علي تنظيم معرض مصر: مائة عام من السينما في معهد
العالم العربي في باريس في الفترة من اكتوبر 1995 حتي فبراير 1996 ، وأشرفت على
كتاب مصر: مائة عام من السينما الذي أصدره المعهد سنة 1995 والذي حصل على جائزة
أفضل كتاب في السينما في فرنسا سنة 1996. وأشرفت مع صلاح مرعي على كتاب «شادي
عبد السلام فرعون السينما المصرية سنة 1995. كما مثّلت
اليونسكو في عدد من اللقاءات السينمائية الدولية ، وشاركت في عدد من اللجان الخاصة
بدعم السينما في الإنتاج والتوزيع التابعة للمركز القومي للسينما الفرنسي CNC. كما
شاركت في العديد من لجان التحكيم في عدد من المهرجانات السينمائية العربية
والدولية. بالاضافة الى اعداد برنامج
السينما المصرية: الولع بمصر التي نظمه السينماتيك الفرنسي في ابريل 2012
والذي عرض فيه مائة فيلم من أهم الافلام المصرية وذلك بالتعاون مع المركز القومي
للسينما في مصر و فى نوفمير عام 2013 نظمت
برنامج للسينما المصرية فى ملتقى الصورة فى باريس .
Dr. Magda Wassef has a bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration from Cairo University in Egypt. In 1976 she received her
diploma in Cinematographic research from the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris before
she receives her PHD in Cinema and History from l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en
Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in 1983.
Wassef worked as the editor of the Cinema pages in the weekly Al
Mostqbal in Paris (1978- 1988). From 1988 to 2008, she headed the cinema
department at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) in Paris; and was also General
delegate of the Arab cinemas Biennale in Paris from 1992 to 2006.
Wassef taught Arab Cinema at la Sorbonne; and has published numerous
studies on Arab Cinema. As artistic curator of ‘Egypt: One Hundred Years of
Cinema’, she organized the exhibition at the Arab World Institute (IMA) in
Paris; and was awarded the prize of The Art Book and Essay in 1996.
Wassef also co-supervised with Salah Marei the book ‘Chadi Abdel Salam,
the Pharaoh of Egyptian Cinema’ in Paris 1995. She is an artistic advisor and
collaborator to several international festivals, and has also collaborated on
Cairo’s International Film Festival since 1985; and member of the artistic
bureau till 2010 .

among which Cannes Film Festival since 2004, where she coordinated the homage
paid to Egypt as a country invited by Cannes Festival in 2011. She also
collaborated on Cairo’s International Film Festival since 1985 where she’s also
part of the artistic bureau since 2009.
Wassef has been part of several CNC commissions .She has represented
UNESCO in several international cinematographic meetings and has participated
to juries in international and Arab film festivals.
She is currently preparing a retrospective on Egyptian cinema at the
‘Cinematheque Francaise’ for April 2012, in collaboration with the National
Centre for Cinema in Egypt and Organize on November 2013 a program for Egyptian
Cinema in the forum des images in Paris .

زايدة هو كاتب صحفى بجريدة الاهرام شغل منصب مدير تحرير الاهرام للشئون
السياسية. حاصل على بكالوريوس الاعلام من كلية الاعلام من جامعة
القاهرة عام 1976. يعمل صحفياً بالأهرام منذ عام 1978، و يشغل حاليا منصب مدير
تحرير جريدة الأهرام للشئون السياسية . كما يشارك في التعليق التليفزيوني حول العديد
من القضايا السياسية والاقتصادية .
أشرف
زايدة على الأقسام السياسية بالأهرام وتشمل القسم السياسي والقسم البرلماني وقسم
الإسلام السياسي. يكتب عمودا أسبوعيا تحت إسم " تأملات سياسية " يوم
الاربعاء من كل أسبوع . كما يكتب مقالا أسبوعيا ايضاً في " الأهرام الاقتصادي
" حول القضايا السياسية الاقتصادية .
عمل
زايدة رئيساً للقسم الاقتصادي بجريدة " العالم اليوم « 1990 – 1993 و رئيس
القسم الاقتصادي بالأهرام الاقتصادي . ثم انتقل الى دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة
حيث عمل رئيساً للقسم الاقتصادي بجريدة الخليج 1993 – 1995. عاد بعدها الى القاهرة
حيث عمل نائبا لرئيس تحرير جريدة الاهرام ، ثم مديراً للأهرام ومراسلا لها فى كندا من
2002 الى 2007 حيث تركزت كتاباته حول العلاقات الامريكية الكندية بالشرق الاوسط فى
أعقاب 11 سبتمبر وتداعيات هذا الحدث على المنطقة العربية .
Gamal Zayda Columnist and
commentator has a degree in Mass Communication from Cairo University. He is a Columnist and commentator; and Managing Editor at Al Ahram daily, and is
responsible for the ‘political’ section in the newspaper. Zayda has a weekly
column in ‘Al Ahram Massai’ and ‘Al Ahram al Iqtisadi’.
Zayda worked as managing editor for the economic section in ‘Al Khaleej’
daily of the United Arab Emirates (1993 – 1995); then came back to Cairo where
he worked as deputy editor-in-chief for al-Ahram before he travels to Canada to
head Al-Ahram bureau from 2002 to 2007.

وديد شكرى مدير تصوير سينمائي
حاصل على بكالوريوس التصوير الفتوغرافي السينمائي و الفيديو من كلية الفنون
التطبيقية جامعة حلوان 1978 . وحاصل على دراسات عليا فى الأثار من كلية الآثار
جامعة القاهرة . أنشأ أول مركز من نوعه فى مصر للمصورين المحترفين ( كوداك برو سنتر ) من حيث الخدمات و المنتجات
و أيضا التعليم. و هو حاليا ينظم و ينفذ العديد من الدورات التدريبية فى التصوير
بأساليب منهجية لتلائم متطلبات المصورين الهواه و المحترفين فى مصر و الدول
المجاورة.
وديد شكري متخصص فى تسجيل الآثار بالتصوير و الأرشيف. و
قد بدأ حياته المهنية كمصور تليفزيوني بالتلفزيون المصري من عام 1978 إلى 1981 ، حيث
عمل بعدها في شركة كوداك فى مجال التصوير المحترف و تقنيات طبع الصور و معالجة
الأفلام و التصوير الرقمي حتى عام 1999. و قد أسهم فى توسيع رقعة أعمال كوداك فى مصر ، حيث اطلق مشروع " كوداك إكسبريس"
، و كان مسئولاً عن ابتكار جميع آفاق هذا المشروع من النواحي التعاقدية المالية و
التسويقية ، بجانب الدورات التدريبية.
عمل شكري منذ عام 1992 في إرساء خدمة الطباعة و النشر
للمحترفين كرائد لها فى مصر و كذلك تسويق هذا الخط الإنتاجي الذي استطاع ان يضاعف مبيعاته
تحت قيادته . ومنذ عام 1981 و حتى 1999
قام أيضا بتولى الإشراف على نظم كوداك للتصوير الجوى كما شارك فى دورة التصوير
الجوى فى كوداك روشستر.
Wadid Shokri Director of Photography has a degree in Photography Cinematography and
Video from the faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University; and has also studied
Egyptology at Cairo University . Shokri started his career as a camera man in
the Egyptian TV from 1978 to 1981.
He later joined Kodak Egypt in 1981 where he managed ‘professional
photography’ printing and publishing digital imaging , as marketing director,
he contributed to the expansion of Kodak’s photo development activities in
Egypt through the promotion of Kodak’s program of franchise concepts before
launching Kodak Express in Egypt. From 1992
to 1999, he succeeded in consolidating relations with business publishing
professionals, achieving significant sales increase.
Shokri is currently organizing training workshops in photography and
digital imaging, adapted to the needs of professionals and amateurs in Egypt
and the Gulf countries. He is also working on a specialized research in
archeological photographic documentation and digital museum archiving.

حصل داوود عبد السيد على بكالوريوس
الإخراج السينمائى من المعهد العالى للسينما عام 1967. بدأ العمل كمساعد مخرج في
بعض الأفلام أهمها (الأرض) ليوسف شاهين و (الرجل الذي فقد ظله) لكمال الشيخ و
(أوهام الحب) لممدوح شكري.. وقدم
العديد من الأفلام التسجيلية أهمها (وصية رجل حكيم في شؤون القرية والتعليم ـ
1976) ، الذي حصل على جائزة لجنة التحكيم الخاصة "الأفنجدلين" من مهرجان
أوبرهاوزن بألمانيا، وجائزة جمعية النقاد بالقاهرة. الى
جانب (العمل في الحقل ـ 1979) و (عن الناس والأنبياء والفنانين ـ 1980)
حصل داوود عن فيلمه "البحث عن سيد مرزوق" على
جائزة الهرم الفضى من مهرجان القاهرة السينمائى الدولي الخامس عشر عام 1991. و حصل
ايضا عن فيلمه " أرض الخوف " على جائزة الهرم الفضى من مهرجان القاهرة
السينمائى الدولى، وجائزة السيناريو من مهرجان البحرين الأول، وجائزة أحسن فيلم من
مهرجان جمعية الفيلم، وجائزة أحسن إخراج من مهرجان جمعية الفيلم عام 1999. كما حصل
فيلمه " الكيت كات" على عدة
جوائز فى السيناريو والإخراج.
داوود هو كبير المخرجين فى المركز القومى للسينما و حصل
عن فيلمه "أرض الأحلام" على جائزة الإنتاج الثانية من المهرجان القومى
للسينما عام 1993. كما حصل عن فيلمه "مواطن ومخبر وحرامى" على
جائزة أفضل فيلم وأحسن إخراج من المهرجان القومى للسينما، وجائزة أحسن فيلم وأحسن
إخراج وأحسن سيناريو من مهرجان جمعية الفيلم، عام 2001. كما حصل
فيلمه "الصعاليك" على جائزة العمل الأول فى مهرجان أسوان الأكاديمى عام
1985 ، و فيلمه "سارق الفرح" على جائزة الإنتاج الفضية من المهرجان
القومى للسينما ، والجائزة البرونزية من مهرجان دمشق الدولى، وجائزة الجمهور من
مهرجان سورونتو في إيطاليا عام 1995.
شارك داوود بشخصه وأفلامه فى عدد كبير من المهرجانات
العالمية والمحلية. و هو عضو لجنة السينما بالمجلس الأعلى للثقافة ، وعضو اللجنة
العليا للمهرجانات. حصل علي جائزة الدولة التقديرية في 2013 .
With a degree in directing from Cairo’s Higher Institute for Cinema in
1967, Daoud Abdel Sayed worked as assistant director to Youssef
Chahine and Kamal El Sheikh amongst others.
He directed several short films and documentaries before signing his
first fiction feature film The Louts (Al Saalik) in 1985. He
directed his second movie Kit Kat (Al Kit Kat) in 1991; then In
search of Said Marzouk (Al Bahs An Said Marzouk) in 1993; Dreamland (Ard
al Ahlam) in 1995; Land of Fear (Ard Al Khof) in 2000; A citizen,
an Informer and a Thief ( Mowaten, Mokhber Wa Harami) in 2001; Messages from
the Sea (Rassael Al Bahr) in 2009.
An engaged and demanding director, Dawoud Abdel Sayed is one of the most
original authors of Egyptian Cinema. A perfectionist, he only directed 8 films
in a quarter of a century. Several of his films are adaptations of contemporary
literary writers, in particular Ibrahim Aslan. From one film to the next, he
explores the inner workings of the human soul in these troubled times, yet he
always takes the side of life and optimism.

يوسف شريف رزق الله حاصل على درجة البكالوريوس في
الاقتصاد و العلوم السياسية من جامعة القاهرة عام 1966 . عمل محرراً ثم رئيساً
لتحرير النشرات الإخبارية باللغة العربية في اتحاد الإذاعة و التليفزيون . كما عمل
رئيساً لقناة النيل الدولية من 1997 الى 2002 ، و رئيساً لقطاع التعاون الدولي
بمدينة الإنتاج الإعلامي من 2007 الي2011 ،
ثم رئيساً لجهاز السينما بمدينة الانتاج الإعلامي منذ فبراير 2011 . نشر العديد من
الدراسات و المقالات عن السينما منذ عام 1964 . و أنشأ برنامج نادي السينما
بالتليفزيون المصري عام 1975 ثم برنامج أوسكار عام 1980 .
قدم يوسف العديد من البرامج السينمائية في
التليفزيون المصري مثل "نجوم و أفلام" ، و " تليسينما" و
"ستار" و"سينما ...سينما" ، و "الفانوس السحري" ، و
"سينما رزق الله" ، بالإضافة الى تقديم رسائل يومية من مهرجان القاهرة و
كان و غيرها . كما شارك في لجان تحكيم عدد من مهرجانات السينما مثل
"ستراسبورج" (1987) ، و"ميلانو" (1993) ، و
"روتردام" (2006) . كما شارك في العديد من مهرجانات السينما الدولية مثل
"كان" و"برلين" و"موسكو" و "كارلوفى
فاري" و"سان سيباستيان" و"مونتريال" و"فينسيا"
و" مونبليه" و"نانت و"دبى" و "أبو ظبى" و
غيرها. كما تولى رئاسة جمعية الفيلم بالقاهرة فى الفترة من 1978 الي 1994 . وعمل
كسكرتير فنى لمهرجان القاهرة السينمائية الدولي منذ عام 1978 ثم مديراً فنياً
للمهرجان .
Youssef Cherif Rizklaah has a in Economy and Political science from Cairo
University. He started his career as an editor then editor in chief of Arabic news
bulletin on Egyptian television. From 1997 to 2002, he headed the Nile
International Channel; and from 2007 to 2011, he headed the International
Cooperation department in Media City. In 2011, he was promoted to General
Manager of the Cinema Organisation in Media City.
Rizklaah is a cinema critic since 1964, and has published numerous
articles and studies in several media. He was president of Cairo’s Film
Association from 1978 to 1994. In 1975, he created the Cine-Club TV
program at the Egyptian Television, and in 1980 another show called Oscar.
Rizklaah has been Artistic Secretary for Cairo International Film
Festival since 1978; and became the Artistic
Director in 2002. He regularly presents cinematographic programs at the
Egyptian TV, and has regularly covered the Cairo Film Festival and Cannes Film
Festival amongst others which he has been attending since the 1960’s; such as Berlin’s,
Moscow’s, Karlovi Vari’s, San Sebastian’s, Montreal’s, Venice’s, Montpellier’s,
Nantes’s, Dubai’s and Abu Dhabi’s.
Rizklaah also participated as panel-
jury of several film festivals, i.e. Strasburg (1987), Milano (1993) and
Rotterdam (2006).
