NYU Abu Dhabi signs agreement with Abu Dhabi Airports to advance innovation for aviation

The long-term strategic partnership will focus on accelerating the development of advanced capabilities for Abu Dhabi International Airport

Abu Dhabi, January 23, 2018: NYU Abu Dhabi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Airports last week to foster innovation in aviation through the exchange of knowledge, research and technology in the form of a joint initiative, that aligns with the objectives of the Year of Zayed, titled “Innovation and Accelerating the Future.”

The initiative serves as a celebration of Sheikh Zayed’s legacy in advancing progress and development, honouring his core beliefs that innovation and engaging the youth are fundamental for the advancement of the nation in light of the Year of Zayed.

The MoU is set to further accelerate the development of advanced capabilities for Abu Dhabi International Airport. The first phase of the partnership will see NYU Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Airports organizing joint workshops and events to identify ideas and opportunities to develop the capital’s airport to a new standard of technological progression.

The agreement was signed by Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports and NYU Abu Dhabi Vice Chancellor Al Bloom a ceremony held at the NYU Abu Dhabi campus which saw the attendance of guests and representatives from both entities.

NYU Abu Dhabi Vice Chancellor Al Bloom said, “Developing this partnership with Abu Dhabi Airports offers the university a stunning opportunity to work with the Abu Dhabi government to strengthen the Emirate’s connections with the world – connections that will draw new knowledge, enriched cultural energy, and increased economic opportunity from around the globe and that will allow the Emirate to contribute its own intellectual discovery and its own educational and humane vision more effectively to that world." 

Specialists from both institutions will conduct studies on subjects of interest in the field of aviation, providing academic and technical facilities for researchers to carry out field studies and surveys to investigate the feasibility of scientific hypotheses for potential modes of innovation for the sector.

UAE, January 23, 2018 - Dubai Government Workshop recently paid a visit to the elderly wards of the Family Gathering Center in Dubai. UAE healthcare firm announces new acquisitions worth over $200m

Deals include a 70% stake in a cosmetic medicine provider worth $170m, says NMC Health

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, January 22, 2018-(AETOS Wire)- UAE healthcare operator NMC Health plc has announced two new acquisitions and the completion of new operating and management (O&M) contract as the company moves to expand across the Middle East.

Among the acquisitions are a 70 percent stake in CosmeSurge, a cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine provider. According to NMC, the acquisition is worth $170 million.

NMC also signed a new O&M contracts with Emirates Healthcare Group to manage its Egyptian hospitals, Dar Al Fouad and As Salam International. The deal is expected to generate revenues of $2 million for NMC in the first year of operation.

In a statement, NMC noted that the transaction includes a chain of 17 operational clinics, with the business expected to deliver 2017 revenues and EBIDTA of $67 million and $20.5 million, respectively.

NMC also acquired an 80 percent stake in the Riyadh-based Al Salam Medical Group. The transaction, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018, includes the 100-bed Al Salam Medical Hospital, the Al Salam Medical Center, and the Ishbilia Medical Center.

“These value accretive and earnings enhancing transactions fit well with our growth strategy,” said Prasanth Manghat, NMC CEO. “CosmeSurge represents a continuation of building NMC’s capabilities and Al Salam further extends our geographic footprint in the KSA, cementing our leading position as a non-domiciled provider.”

Manghat added that NMC sees “substantial opportunities for revenue and cost synergies” across both acquisitions.

“The cosmetics business in particular has the potential to be further developed into an independent business vertical at a later stage,” he added. “Moreover, KSA remains a key focus market for us and despite already reaching 800 beds across existing and under-construction assets in the country, we continue to see strong growth opportunities in the Kingdom.”

إن إم سي للرعاية الصحية تستحوذ على "كوزموسيرج"

أبوظبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 22 يناير 2018("ايتوس واير")- أعلنت إن إم سي للرعاية الصحية ومقرها دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، أنها نفذت عمليتي استحواذ بقيمة 207 ملايين دولار أمريكي، تضمنت 70% من "كوزموسيرج" وبقيمة 170 مليون دولار أمريكي، والاستحواذ على 80% من مجموعة السلام الطبية السعودية مقابل 37 مليون دولار أمريكي.

وقال براسانت منغات، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة إن إم سي: "إن هذه الاستحواذات والعمليات تنسجم تماماً مع الخطط الاستراتيجية لشركتنا، وستكمل "كوزمسيرج"، التي تقدم خدمات الجراحة التجميلية والطب التجميلي، باقة الخدمات التي نقدمها في "إن إم سي"، فيما سيسهم استحواذنا على مجموعة السلام في استمرارية توسعنا الجغرافي في المملكة العربية السعودية".

وأضاف منغات: "لا يزال السوق السعودي مهماً وواعداً بالنسبة لنا، وعلى الرغم من وصولنا إلى ما يقارب 800 سرير ما بين أصول طبية جاهزة أو تحت الإنشاء في  المملكة، لانزال نطمح بالمزيد من التوسع في السوق السعودي".

ومن المتوقع استكمال الاستحواذ النقدي على "كوزمسيرج"، خلال الربع الأول من 2018. وتبلغ القيمة السوقية للشركة 250 مليون دولار أمريكي، ومن المتوقع أن تعلن عن تحقيق أرباح قبل الفائدة والضرائب قدرها 20.5 مليون دولار أمريكي في 2017 مع وصول الإيرادات إلى 67 مليون دولار أمريكي.

وتدير "كوزمسيرج" 17 عيادة، ويجري حالياً بناء عيادتين جديدتين ومستشفى يضم 10 أسرة في  دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. 

Gartner Says Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Forecast to Grow 7.5 Percent in 2018

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – 23 January 2018 — Worldwide semiconductor revenue is forecast to total $451 billion in 2018, an increase of 7.5 percent from $419 billion in 2017, according to Gartner, Inc. This represents a near doubling of Gartner's previous estimate of 4 percent growth for 2018.

"Favorable market conditions for memory sectors that gained momentum in the second half of 2016 prevailed through 2017 and look set to continue in 2018, providing a significant boost to semiconductor revenue," said Ben Lee, principal research analyst at Gartner. "Gartner has increased the outlook for 2018 by $23.6 billion compared with the previous forecast, of which the memory market accounts for $19.5 billion. Price increases for both DRAM and NAND flash memory are raising the outlook for the overall semiconductor market."

However, these price increases will put pressure on margins for system vendors of key semiconductor demand drivers, including smartphones, PCs and servers. Gartner predicts that component shortages, a rising bill of materials (BOM) and the resulting prospect of having to raise average selling prices (ASPs) will create a volatile market through 2018.

Despite the upward revision for 2018, the quarterly growth profile for 2018 is expected to fall back to a more normal pattern with a mid-single-digit sequential decline in the first quarter of the year, followed by a recovery and buildup in both the second and third quarters of 2018, and a slight decline in the fourth quarter.

On January 3, a security vulnerability that spans all microprocessor vendors was revealed, impacting nearly all types of personal and data center computing devices. While this is an obscure security vulnerability that is difficult to achieve, the potential of a high-impact security issue cannot be ignored and must be mitigated.

"The current mitigation solution is via firmware and software updates, and has a potential processor performance impact. This may result in an increased demand for high-performance data center processors in the short term, but Gartner expects that in the longer term, microprocessor architectures will be redesigned, reducing the performance impact of the software mitigations and limiting the long-term forecast impact," said Alan Priestley, research director at Gartner.

Taking the memory sectors out of the equation, the semiconductor market is forecast to grow 4.6 percent in 2018 (compared with 9.4 percent in 2017) with field-programmable gate array (FPGA), optoelectronics, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and nonoptical sensors leading the semiconductor device categories.

The other significant device category driving the 2018 forecast higher is application-specific standard products (ASSPs). The predicted growth in ASSPs was influenced by an improved outlook for graphics cards used in gaming PCs and high-performance computing applications, a broad increase in automotive content and a stronger wired communications forecast.

The mixed fortunes of semiconductor vendors in recent years serves as a reminder of the fickleness of the memory market," said Mr. Lee. "After growing by 22.2 percent in 2017, worldwide semiconductor revenue will revert back to single-figure growth in 2018 before a correction in the memory market results in revenue declining slightly in 2019."

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 23 يناير 2018: كشفت اليوم شركة F5 نتوركس (المسجلة في بورصة ناسداك تحت الرمز: FFIV) عن نتائج تقريرها الخاص بحالة تسليم التطبيقات SOAD 2018[i]. وتظهر نتائج الإصدار الرابع للتقرير العالمي الفريد مدى التأثير المتزايد لعمليات نشر السحابة المتعددة، ومساعدتها للمؤسسات في أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقياعلى تحسين مستوى تطبيقاتها، وعمليات الأتمتة، وآلية اعتماد عمليات التحول الرقمي. كما أنها تسلط الضوء على أحدث التحديات التشغيلية والأمنية المرتبطة بهذا التحول.

عمليات التحول الرقمي تُلهم مبادرات البنى الجديدة والارتقاء بتقنية المعلومات 

استناداً لتقرير حالة تسليم التطبيقات 2018، يعد الارتقاء بتقنية المعلومات الفائدة الأولى المرجوة من جهود عمليات التحول الرقمي في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا (69 بالمائة من المشاركين). في حين جاءت الميزة التنافسية بالمرتبة الثانية بنسبة 59 بالمائة، وتحسين مستوى الأعمال بالمرتبة الثالثة بنسبة 46 بالمائة.

وللاستفادة من هذه الفوائد يجب الجمع بين السحابة، وبنى التطبيقات الجديدة، وأتمتة تقنية المعلومات، حيث أشار أكثر من نصف المشاركين (57 بالمائة) إلى أنهم يستخدمون أتمتة ومزامنة تقنية المعلومات من أجل عمليات التحول الرقمي. في حين يسعى حوالي النصف (48 بالمائة) منهم إلى تسليم التطبيقات انطلاقاً من السحابة العامة، و48 بالمائة منهم يعملون على تغيير آلية تطوير تطبيقاتهم. وقد أفاد 43 بالمائة من المشاركين أن عمليات التحول الرقمي أدت إلى تعزيز آلية البحث عن بنى التطبيقات الجديدة التي تحتوي على الحاويات والخدمات الدقيقة.

تحديات السحابة المتعددة 

وفقاً لنتائج تقرير حالة تسليم التطبيقات 2018، حدّد 54 بالمائة من المشاركين نوع السحابة الأفضل لكل تطبيق استناداً على كل حالة على حدة، وهو ما أدى إلى ارتفاع مستوى الإقبال على بيئات السحابة متعددة، حيث أشار 75 بالمائة من المشاركين إلى استعانتهم بشركات توريد خدمات السحابة المتعددة.

وكما هو الحال دائماً، يبقى الأمن مصدر القلق الرئيسي في البيئات السحابية. فعلى مستوى أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا، أصبح قانون السياسات الأمنية المتسقة الواجب تطبيقه على جميع تطبيقات الشركة الجانب الأكثر تحدياً أو تثبيطاً في مجال إدارة بيئات السحابة المتعددة (42 بالمائة من المشاركين)، في حين رأى 39 بالمائة منهم أن التحدي الأكبر يكمن في حماية التطبيقات من التهديدات القائمة والصاعدة. وتخلص نتائج تقرير حالة تسليم التطبيقات 2018 إلى أن هذا الأمر أدى إلى ارتفاع عدد المؤسسات التي تستعين بجدران حماية تطبيقات الصفحات الالكترونية (WAFs)، وذلك في ظل استخدام 61 بالمائة من المشاركين حالياً لهذه التقنية من أجل حماية تطبيقاتهم.

وتابعت سيندي بوروفيك حديثها قائلةً: "بما أن التطبيقات هي العصب الرئيسي للأعمال، فقد اتخذت المؤسسات قراراتها المتعلقة بتقنية المعلومات استناداً على متطلبات التطبيقات، ما أدى إلى استفادة الكثير منهم لمنصات السحابة المتعددة. ورغم تقديم بيئات السحابة المتعددة العديد من الفوائد من حيث السرعة، وقابلية التوسع، والمرونة، إلا أن هناك جملة من التحديات التي تواجهها من حيث توفير مستويات الأمن المتسقة على امتداد السحابة، وحماية التطبيقات من مختلف أنواع التهديدات، واكتساب الرؤية والشفافية حول سلامة عمل التطبيق".

خدمات التطبيقات هي بوابات المستقبل 

أشارت نتائج تقرير حالة تسليم التطبيقات 2018 بشكل وسطي إلى أن المؤسسات في أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا استفادت من 15 خدمة مختلفة للتطبيقات من أجل الحفاظ على تطبيقاتها سريعة، وآمنة، ومتاحة للاستخدام.

ولا يزال الأمن يشكل العنصر الأهم في خدمة التطبيقات على امتداد أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا (44 بالمائة، مقابل 39 بالمائة على الصعيد العالمي). ومن المثير للاهتمام، ارتفع معدل الاستعانة بخدمات البوابات بحيث أضحت من الخدمات التي "لابد منها"، وذلك في ظل استعداد مؤسسات تقنية المعلومات دخول عصر الاقتصاد الرقمي. ومن أبرز خدمات البوابات في أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا إنترنت الأشياء IoT (34 بالمائة)، والشبكات المعرفة بالبرمجيات SDN (32 بالمائة)، وواجهة برمجة التطبيق API (32 بالمائة)، وبروتوكول نقل النص التشعبي/2 HTTP/2 (28 بالمائة).

ومن التحديات الرئيسية التي تواجه أمن خدمات التطبيقات تنامي تعقيد وتطور الهجمات (42 بالمائة)، وعدم تقدير الموظفين لآثار وتبعات عدم اتباع السياسات الأمنية (41 بالمائة)، وارتفاع مستوى تعقيد الحلول الأمنية (29 بالمائة)، وأمن تطبيقات الأجهزة المحمولة (35 بالمائة) والافتقار إلى مهارات أمن تقنية المعلومات (28 بالمائة).

وتابعت سيندي بوروفيك قائلةً: "تسعى المؤسسات في أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا للاستفادة من واقع الاقتصاد الرقمي من خلال تبنيها لبنى التطبيقات الحديثة، ونماذج السحابة، ومجموعة واسعة من الأجهزة. كما أن عمليات نشر البوابات تبين لنا وبوضوح أن المشاركين في الدراسة يستخدمون التقنيات والأدوات التي يحتاجونها كي يتمكنوا من المضي بثقة كاملة نحو مستقبل رقمي بات أكثر حضوراً من أي وقت مضى".

الأتمتة والمزامنة: الانطلاقة السريعة نحو المستقبل

باتت أقسام تقنية المعلومات تتبنى مفاهيم قابلية البرمجة والتوحيد القياسي ضمن بيئات الأتمتة والمزامنة، وذلك في جميع أنحاء أوروبا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا. فقد أشار ثلاثة من كل أربعة (75 بالمائة) من المشاركين أن استخدام الأتمتة في تشغيل البنية التحتية لتقنية المعلومات هو أمر "مهم" أو "مهم جداً". بينما نجد أن الغالبية (72 بالمائة) تستعين بالأتمتة من أجل تحقيق الغاية من تقنية المعلومات ولكن بأقل قدر ممكن من التكاليف التشغيلية OpEx، في حين يتطلع حوالي نصفهم (48 بالمائة) إلى التوسع من أجل تلبية الطلب.

واختتمت سيندي بوروفيك حديثها قائلةً: "نظراً للضغط المتنامي الذي باتت تشكله ممارسات التطوير والعمليات، وبفضل زيادة استخدام الحاويات واعتماد السحابة، أصبح بإمكان بيئات تقنية المعلومات التقليدية تبني مفاهيم قابلية البرمجة من أجل تمكين عمليات الأتمتة والمزامنة الضرورية لتحقيق النجاح. ومع ذلك، ينبغي على المؤسسات التي تسعى إلى تحسين تقنية المعلومات من خلال عمليات الأتمتة والمزامنة تطبيق التوحيد القياسي قبل الإسراع نحو المستقبل".
