Nile Air Grows by 32% to become Second Largest Airline in Cairo


Cairo, Egypt, August 6th, 2017 –UK-based air travel intelligence company OAG has released the latest report on the top ten airlines in Cairo and for the first time the top two airlines are Egyptian; with Nile Air ranking second after the state-owned airline, Egypt Air. Nile Air, the biggest private airline in Egypt, operates almost 500 flights a month from Cairo with year-round scheduled services to over 20 international and domestic destinations, which are expected to grow even further in the near future.
With year on year growth of 32%, Nile Air has established themselves as an air carrier looking to go the extra mile for its passengers; recently ordering the latest in aircraft technology with the new Airbus A321neo – a first by an Egyptian airline. An aircraft that offers generous floor space, allowing for more flexibility and increasing seating, the plan was specifically modified to ensure the body of the plane, wings and undercarriage had additional structural support to accommodate to extra passenger weight. Over the last year, the airline has been focusing on the growth of international and domestic tourism in-line with government strategies; launching scheduled domestic services between Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor, and Aswan and further expansion plans that will focus on increased destinations in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

Named as number 2 on the ‘Top Ten Airlines in Cairo’ list, according to the OAG report, Nile Air increased its number of flights by 18%, going from 87 weekly flights to 115, ranking just lower than the national carrier, Egypt Air. Along with offering the best on time performance of any Egyptian airline and an array of international destinations, the airline offers a full-service product with a dedicated business class product and an all-inclusive product in economy class. Beyond Cairo, Nile Air operates a base at the Borg Al-Arab Airport to serve Egypt’s second largest city, Alexandria along with the Delta region and Sahel and also has plans to expand to cover all major towns in cities in the country.

احتلت شركة النيل للطيران المصرية الخاصة المركز الثاني كأكبر شركة طيران في القاهرة بعد تدعيم أسطولها الجوي بالمزيد من الطائرات من أحدث الطرز العالمية وآخرهم طائرة إيرباص طراز  A321، وذلك تحقيقاً لرؤية الشركة في تقديم خدمات أفضل من خلال دعم خطوطها الجوية وتقديم تغطية أوسع لأكبر عدد من المطارات الدولية الحيوية في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط.

الجدير بالذكر أن هذه الإنجازات تعد إنعكاسًا حقيقيًا لخطة الشركة ورؤيتها منذ إنشائها عام 2006 لتقديم خدمات طيران عالية الجودة، بأفضل أطقم الضيافة الجوية وتوفير أعلى الإجراءات الدولية لتحقيق أكبر قدر من السلامة والأمان وخاصة في الرحلات ذات أوقات التحليق الأطول.
وقد حققت شركة النيل للطيران طفرة ونمو قياسي بالإضافة إلي زيادة في حجم رحلاتها، وقد ذكرت تقارير (OAG) ان الشركة استطاعت تحقيق نمو بنسبة 32% وهو الأعلى لهذا العام بين جميع شركات الطيران العربية حيث تنامى معدل تشغيل الشركة من نحو 87 رحلة اسبوعية في يوليو 2016 الى 115 رحلة أسبوعية في يوليو 2017، وبذلك تحتل مصر للطيران والنيل للطيران المصريتين المراكز الأولى في مطار القاهرة وهو إنجاز يدعم صورة الطيران المصري على مستوى الشرق الأوسط خاصة والمستوى العالمي عامة بل يؤكد أيضًا على قدرة الطيران الوطني على التنافس وريادة سوق الطيران الإقليمي و الذي يتيح فرص أكبر لازدهار الإستثمار وتوفير عمالة مباشرة للبلد.
ويأتي هذا الإنجاز كتتويج حقيقي للشركة التي استطاعت وفي وقت قياسي تغطية 22 محطة وصول محلية ودولية وتشغيل ما يزيد عن 500 رحلة شهريًا.

NYU Abu Dhabi researchers provide breakthrough insight on how coral reefs may cope with climate change


Research reveals unique adaptations help Arabian Gulf corals survive sea temperatures of 36 degrees or higher

Abu Dhabi,  August 10, 2017: Research undertaken by scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) will help provide new insight into how coral reefs around the world will be able to cope with climate change.

Rising sea temperatures are a primary cause of global coral reef bleaching, when water is too warm, corals expel the algae living in their tissues, causing the coral to turn white (known as coral bleaching). Major coral bleaching events have occurred around the world, including significant events in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef, and experts expect to see continued damage in the coming years. 

NYU Abu Dhabi researchers may have found new insight into this global challenge, using corals found in the Arabian Gulf. A team of researchers examined the genetics of a widespread coral to understand how corals survive extreme sea temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius or higher in the Arabian Gulf, making them more heat tolerant than any other corals on the planet.

The study, which was published in the scientific journal PLOS One, sought answers to whether these corals have genetically adapted to these extreme conditions or have physiologically acclimated to the heat. To this end, the genetic structure of the coral Platygyra daedalea and its symbiotic algae in the Arabian Gulf and the nearby Gulf of Oman were investigated.

“By looking at both corals and algae, we can get a better idea of whether one or both are involved in Gulf coral thermal tolerance,” said Edward Smith, postdoctoral associate researcher at NYU Abu Dhabi.

DNA analysis was performed on corals collected from reefs in the Arabian Gulf near Abu Dhabi and from sites in the slightly cooler Gulf of Oman around Fujairah and Muscat. This analysis found some key differences, revealing that the Arabian Gulf corals and their algae are genetically distinct from their counterparts in Gulf of Oman.

According to Smith, limited gene flow exchange between regions indicates that Arabian Gulf corals have adapted to cope with their extreme conditions. “This is interesting because the results suggest that both the coral and their algae together contribute to the superior thermal tolerance traits of Arabian Gulf corals,” Smith said.

“Genetically adapted populations of corals and their symbionts in the Arabian Gulf are an important scientific resource”, he added. “This study will help us understand the mechanisms involved in coral thermal adaptation, and provide new insight into whether corals elsewhere in the world will be able to cope with climate change.”

Regional adaptation has also lead the researchers to conclude that reefs threatened by climate change in the Gulf of Oman or Indian Ocean are unlikely to acquire the so-called “super genes” of Arabian Gulf corals.

Reefs in the Arabian Gulf are the most diverse ecosystems in the region and support major economic industries such as fisheries. “Unfortunately, the conditions that have made Arabian Gulf corals among the hardiest known to science, also makes them vulnerable: they are living in very stressful conditions, and any further stress can push them over the edge”, said John Burt, NYUAD associate professor of biology. 

“In the past three decades we’ve witnessed widespread degradation of reefs around the region, with sedimentation from coastal development and nearshore reclamation being the prime culprits,” he explained. “If we are to conserve these scientifically and economically important natural assets, management efforts to limit human stressors are critical.”


Emirates Intellectual Property Association appoints CommuniGate Middle East to manage its media relations




August 10, 2017 - The Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), an organization dedicated to spreading public awareness of intellectual property rights in the UAE, has appointed CommuniGate Middle East, a leading marketing and public relations company, to handle its public relations (PR) strategy and media activities.

Established to raise the level of awareness and knowledge of all Emiratis and UAE residents concerning intellectual property laws, EIPA organizes workshops and related initiatives to combat piracy and the distribution of counterfeit goods in the country, as well as highlight the negative economic impact brought on by these illegal activities. The association and Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Center, which falls under its umbrella, hold together periodic training workshops on intellectual property, its sections and ways and the reasons of protecting it, as part of EIPA’s mission on highlighting the importance of preserving the rights of creators and human thinkers.

The association exerts extensive efforts to protect trademarks, patents, and copyrights. Moreover, it aims to build an environment that upholds intellectual property rights as means to promoting economic growth. EIPA seeks to showcase the UAE's relentless efforts to protect these rights.  

“The collaboration between EIPA and CommuniGate Middle East aims to make the general public more aware of EIPA’s mission and objectives through various media channels,” said Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Quality and Excellence, Dubai Police and the Head of Board of Directors, EIPA. “Moreover, we are aiming to increase awareness of EIPA’s role in protecting intellectual property--combatting piracy and the further proliferation of counterfeit goods in the country, as well as highlighting the negative economic impact brought on by these illegal activities.”
