Cayan Group Closes 2016 as ‘Year Of Excellence’ With Ongoing Projects Valued at SAR 5.5 Billion

Saudi-based property developer and real estate investment group to surge ahead with strategic objectives and plans for 2017

Dubai/Riyadh – 15 January, 2016: Cayan Group, the leading property developer in the Middle East, has achieved its strategic business objectives and surpassed some of the tactical objectives for the year 2016, making it yet another excellent year for the group. The group has announced SAR 5.5 billion worth of ongoing projects in 2016.

Throughout 2016, Cayan Group surged ahead with planned projects and made steady progress in both construction and sales. In Riyadh, the CMC Tower’s enabling and structural packages were completed ahead of schedule in May within three and six months respectively. In addition, the group successfully launched Samaya project, a high-end mixed-use development located in a very primary area in Riyadh and the project is currently in the midst of the enabling stage.

In Dubai, the group launched the Cayan Arjaan Hotel Apartments in November at a press conference, during which it revealed that the residential tower of the Cayan Cantara project would also be managed and operated by renowned hospitality brand Rotana under their ‘Residences’ badge. Sales of units in both the Samaya project in Riyadh and Cayan Cantara in Dubai have been remarkable with each averaging 50% sold, which leave us with a positive outlook for 2017.

Throughout the course of the year, Cayan Group was honoured with numerous industry accolades and awards. The group was honoured by Forbes Middle East as one of the ‘Top Real Estate Companies in The Arab World’ and as one of the ‘Top 50 GCC Developers in 2016’ by Construction Week magazine. Cayan Group was also bestowed the top spot in the 2015-2016 Arabian Property Awards in the ‘Office Development’ and ‘Mixed-use Development’ categories for the CMC Tower and Cayan Cantara respectively. Other accolades include the “Most Innovative Leading Property Developing Brand, KSA” by Global Brands Magazine Awards 2016. In addition, Cayan Group received “The Majestic Falcon Award for Quality & Excellence” by Otherways Management & Consulting.

“The general fluctuation in economic conditions in the Gulf region, and in particular in Saudi Arabia, has thrown some challenges our way too but these have not had a lasting or deep effect on our plans. Challenges are neither a phenomenon or a permanent setback; they can be rectified through planning and preparation,” noted Ahmed Alhatti, Chairman & President of Cayan Group. “However, the one area where we have experienced some difficulty in 2016 is in recruitment as attracting qualified personnel remains a challenge in the Kingdom,” surmised Alhatti.

New IRENA Report Details How Renewables Can Decarbonise the Energy Sector and Improve the Lives of Billions

REthinking Energy 2017 released at seventh IRENA Assembly

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., 15 January 2017 — Falling costs, driven by innovation in technology and policy, is spurring renewable energy deployment and with it a myriad of socioeconomic benefits, according to the new comprehensive publication released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). REthinking Energy, now in its third edition, was released today at IRENA’s seventh Assembly, the Agency’s ultimate decision-making authority.

“Renewables are gaining ground by nearly every measure. Accelerating the pace of the energy transition and expanding its scope beyond the power sector will not only reduce carbon emissions, it will improve lives, create jobs, achieve development goals, and ensure a cleaner and more prosperous future,” said IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin.

The publication highlights how global investment in renewables has steadily grown for more than a decade, rising from less than USD 50 billion in 2004 to a record USD 305 billion in 2015. Despite this enormous growth, current investment and deployment levels are making headway to meet international carbon reduction targets.

“As we advance deeper into a new energy paradigm, we need to pick-up the pace of our decarbonisation efforts. Policies and regulations continue to remain crucial to this end and to develop the renewables market,” explained Mr. Amin. “We are seeing more and more countries hold auctions to deploy renewables, and as variable and distributed sources of renewables take-on a greater role, regulators have implemented changes to enable grid integration at scale. Heating and cooling, and the potential of renewables for transport, are areas where future efforts are needed.”

The publication provides insights on the innovations, policy and finance driving further investment in sustainable energy system, including that:

• Renewable energy auctions are gaining popularity in developed and developing countries, generating record-breaking low energy prices;
• Demand for battery storage is increasing rapidly and playing a larger part in integrating variable renewables;
• New capital-market instruments are helping increase available finance by offering new groups of investors access to investment opportunities;
• Institutional investors are moving into renewable energy as it offers stable returns over the long term;
• New business models promise new ways to finance renewable energy.

The publication states that solar PV will grow the fastest in terms of capacity and output, and new ways to store electricity will be a game changer for growing variable renewable energy generation. IRENA estimates that battery storage for electricity could increase from less than 1 GW today to 250 GW by 2030.

Off-grid renewables provide electricity to an estimated 90 million people worldwide, and enable people to climb the energy ladder. They are cost-effective and can be installed in modular fashion, linked to grid extension plans. REthinking Energydescribes how off-grid solutions can provide modern energy access to hundreds of millions of more people and achieve development goals.

“Achieving universal electricity access by 2030, will require us to boost global power generation — nearly 60 per cent of that will have to come from stand-alone and mini-grid solutions,” said Mr. Amin. “Meeting this aim with off-grid renewables depends on the right combination of policies, financing, technology and institutional capacity. Making needed changes and accelerating deployment will allow countries to address global issues in sustainability, education, gender equality, health, water and food.”

REthinking Energy was released at IRENA’s seventh Assembly, which this is gathering 75 ministers from over 150 countries, to advance the global renewable energy agenda and make concrete steps to accelerate the global energy transformation.

ESET Trends for 2017: Holding security ransom

An overview of the cybersecurity landscape for 2017

If 2016 was the year of ransomware, 2017 could perhaps be the year of jackware, as Stephen Cobb suggests. It means that this could be the year in which the ruthless threat of ransomware migrates to other platforms beyond computers and smartphones, whose primary purpose is not data processing or digital communications. Connected cars, as in the situation above, are an example.

However, smart devices will not be the only viable targets acquired through the internet: attackers will surely use it to probe critical infrastructure and will continue to look for ways to cause damage, deny service, or hold data hostage. Attacks on critical infrastructure, which Cobb and Cameron Camp analyze in a section of the report, relate to the compromise of data and services that are essential for systems related to physical, economic or national security. In short: those vital for the everyday stability and development of a society.

And if we talk about things that are vital, what could be more important than protecting the systems that support the functioning of the healthcare industry? As it becomes increasingly computerized, more practitioners and patients are using internet-connected medical and fitness devices that are full of sensitive information. However, security and privacy are often an afterthought, explains Lysa Myers in her section, indicating that the future of healthcare will possibly continue to bring significant challenges.

There is another sector where device integration is increasingly common: videogames. Additionally, the new model is packed with features like the new AF system with advanced DFD technology*3. The focus areas are increased from 49 to 225-areas on the LUMIX GH5 in addition to the conventional Face/Eye Recognition, Tracking AF, 1-area AF and Pinpoint AF.

In the LUMIX GH5, the conventional ‘4K PHOTO’ function is dramatically advanced to form ‘6K PHOTO’*4 which lets the user to capture all candid moments at 30 fps by extracting the frame with the best timing out of a 6K burst file (in 4:3 or 3:2 aspect) to save as an approx.18-megapixel equivalent high resolution photo.

Taking advantage of its high-speed, long-time burst shooting capability, spur-of-the-moment shots can be saved in beautiful photos with higher resolution that complies with larger-sized printing by substantially increasing the resolution from approx.8-megapixel (4K PHOTO) to approx.18-megapixel (6K PHOTO*5). Furthermore, 4K Photo is also upgraded to enable 60 fps high-speed capture in approx.8-megapixel equivalent resolution.

Panasonic’s LUMIX GH5 is designed to withstand heavy field use and is not only splash proof and dustproof, but also freezeproof down to -10 degrees Celsius. It also comes with a double SD Memory Card slot compatible with high-speed, high capacity UHS-II for the first time in LUMIX digital camera series.

The device also offers new and improved DMW-BGGH5 battery grip, and a plug-in type microphone adaptor to record high quality stereo sound.

In addition to the above, the new camera comprises of a host of practical features like dedicated microphone to monitor and cancel the noise caused by mechanical movements inside the camera and lens, a Focus Bracket and Aperture Bracket apart from the conventional Exposure Bracket, and a variety of shutter type and speed to choose from. The camera is ready to evolve even further and has several functional upgrades scheduled from April 2017 onwards.

دبى، الامارات العربية المتحدة: أعلنت ’باناسونيك‘، إحدى الشركات العالمية الرائدة في مجال التكنولوجيا، عن إطلاق كاميرا LUMIX GH5 الرقميّة الجديدة والتي تعد أول كاميرا رقمية أحادية عديمة المرايا لتصوير الفيديو جودة4K   60p/50pفي العالم1. وتشمل هذه الكاميرا عدة مزايا ووظائف متقدمة مثل تصوير مقاطع فيديو بجودة (4K) وفق ترميز قدره (4:2:2)، وعمق لوني يبلغ 10 بت، ومعدّل إطار (30/25 بكسل) للصورة، مما يوفر مقاطع فيديو وصور عالية الدقة والوضوح وأقرب إلى الواقع2.

وتنطوي كاميرا LUMIX GH5 على وظائف متقدمة مثل ’ضبط نقاط التركيز بعد التقاط الصورة‘ (Post Focus) التي تتيح للمستخدمين تحديد منطقة التركيز حتى بعد التقاط الصور، وهو ما يعتبر خياراً عملياً للغاية في حالات التصوير القريب جداً التي تتطلب درجة تركيز مرتفعة على نقاط مختلفة، أو عند الحاجة لتغيير ملامح التعبير في الصورة عبر تعديل نقاط التركيز في الصورة.

وتحتوي كاميرا LUMIX GH5 أيضاً على مستشعر الصور الرقمي الجديد (Digital Live MOS Sensor) وتقنية (Venus Engine) بهدف توفير صور مشرقة وبجودة غير مسبوقة على الإطلاق في سلسلة كاميرات LUMIX G الرقميّة. كما تتمتع الكاميرا بميزة الاتصال بالبلوتوث والإنترنت اللاسلكي (Wi-Fi)، مما يتيح للمستخدمين تجربة تصوير أكثر مرونة وإمكانية مشاركة الصور بسهولة وبشكل فوري.

تتضمن الكاميرا مزايا إضافية مثل نظام التركيز التلقائي الجديد المزوّد بتكنولوجيا (DFD)3 المتقدّمة، كما تم رفع مجالات التركيز في الكاميرا من 49 إلى 215 نقطة، إضافة إلى المزايا التقليدية الأخرى مثل تتبع الوجه/العين، وتتبّع التركيز التلقائي (Tracking AF)، والتركيز التلقائي على منطقة محددة (1-area AF)، وتحديد التركيز التلقائي (Pinpoint AF).

علاوةً على ذلك، تم تطوير ميزة "التصوير بجودة 4k‘ بشكل كبير في كاميرا LUMIX GH5 لتوفير صور عالية الوضوح بجودة 6k*4، مما يتيح للمستخدمين التقاط أجمل الصور الخاطفة بمعدل 30 إطار في الثانية عن طريق استخراج إطارات الصورة والتقاط صورة ثابتة من مقطع فيديو عالي الجودة عند التوقيت الأمثل بجودة 6K وبمعدل ترميز قدره (4:3 أو 3:2)، وحفظها بدقة 18 ميجابكسل تقريباً.

وبفضل تزويدها بنمط التصوير المتتابع عالي السرعة وطويل الأمد، يمكن لكاميرا LUMIX GH5 التقاط أجمل الصور السريعة بدقة استثنائية تتوافق مع صور الطابعات كبيرة الحجم، وذلك عبر زيادة الدقة من حوالي 8 ميجابكسل (صورة بدقة 4K) إلى نحو 18 ميجابكسل (صورة بدقة 6K)5. وباستطاعة هذه الكاميرا أيضاً التقاط صور بمعدل 60 إطاراً في الثانية عند اختيار جودة 4k ودقة 8 ميجابكسل.

وقد تم تصميم كاميرا LUMIX GH5 لتتحمّل أصعب الظروف والاستخدامات الميدانيّة، إذ أنها مقاومة للغبار ورذاذ المياه، وبمقدورها العمل بكفاءة في الأجواء الباردة التي تصل حرارتها إلى -10 درجة مئوية. كما تتمتع الكاميرا بمنفذ مزدوج لبطاقات الذاكرة من نوع (SD)، وتتوافق أيضاً مع بطاقات الذاكرة من نوع (UHS-II) عالية السرعة والكفاءة، وذلك لأول مرة ضمن سلسلة كاميرات LUMIX الرقمية. إضافة إلى ذلك، تحتوي الكاميرا على حامل بطارية من نوع DMW-BGGH5، وقابس للميكروفون قابل للتوصيل وذلك لتسجيل صوت ستيريو عالي الجودة.

وإضافة لما سبق، تشمل الكاميرا الجديدة مجموعة إضافية من المزايا العملية مثل الميكروفون المخصص لرصد وإلغاء الضوضاء الناجمة عن الحركات الميكانيكية داخل الكاميرا والعدسة، إضافة إلى ميزة ’إطار التركز‘ (Focus Bracket) و’إطار الفتحة‘ (Aperture Bracket)، ناهيك عن المزايا التقليدية الأخرى مثل تطويق التعريض الضوئي (Exposure Bracket)، ومجموعة متنوعة من غوالق عدسة الكاميرا التي يمكن الاختيار الأنسب منها بكل مرونة. وثمة مجال واسع للارتقاء بإمكانات الكاميرا، حيث من المقرر أن يتوافر لها العديد من التحديثات الوظيفية بدءاً من شهر أبريل 2017 فصاعداً.
